I have a 48 Vegabond also and can attest to the tricky ground handling. I have done over 50 high speed tail up taxis and aborts to try and get ahead of the airplane. If the tailwheel has tension springs it's important that they are under 25 to 30 pounds of pull with the tailwheel and rudder straight. Mine was set up very loose when I got it and it was even worse. More modern tailwheel with compression springs are set up a little slack.
