I think you didnt get the point of the lemonade symbol. The Turbo drink is a symbol for the upper class, popular sports and students of the school. It represents everywhere visible and high class. While the lemonade machine the only remaining is stuck in the basement idle like the remaining of the other school activities. It's like a representation of the rest of the school. But yes these whole break out song type of scenes are cringe af. I love the songs but this is the cringe-iest dcom movie disney done. I think Camp Rock was way better. They had the worst finale too. Like you guys said they didnt stick to the original line up and now they 'sold out' the female members are now all 'singers' well at least for the performance they filmed for. I do like the movie, but the book had a much more interesting idea, where they all play odd instruments and have a group with uncommon instruments. In the book, Olivia she's the lead vocalist and plays the accordion, Wen plays the trumpet, Stella plays the ukelele, Mo plays the stand-up bass, and Charlie is the most instrumentally varied one, kind of, he plays the drums, congas, bongos, and timbales. The storylines and backgrounds are also somewhat darker, like Charlie struggles because he lived and his stillborn twin didn't, not because he lives in his brother's shadow

As someone who's been singing since the age of eight, had violin lessons and has been learning how to play the guitar by myself, it takes a lot of practice and patience to even be slightly good. Apparently the original book this is based on is way darker. Wendell is disturbed by the fact that he's aroused by his stepmother, which represents itself as pent up aggression. Charlie's brother was actually his twin who died in the womb with him. Mo is dealing with self-hatred issues stemming from how she's expected to behave due to her race. Olivia's father actually killed someone in a robbery gone wrong. And Stella is struggling with dyslexia and is constantly overlooked by her family because of it.

Yeah in elementary and some of middle school we had live TV announcements done by students and a teacher that helped them. Every day they had a 'weather' segment where they'd say if it was sunny, rainy, or overcast and they'd use student art to depict it and mention their names. One time my crayon drawing for 'rainy' got selected and I was so hype. Other than weather, lunch, and general stuff like birthdays and if we had a book fair, they sometimes took on editorial stories and looking back it was the most hialrious thing. I think one announcement kid did a news 'story' on their older brother who was the first in school to finish the last Harry Potter book. Good times.

14:40 You know, that's actually a nice message, how the only reason you need to play music is to like to do it. As some who grew up poor and couldn't afford music lessons, even less an instrument, it always felt like a distant dream to play the piano, but three months ago I saved enough for an used keyboard and, even if I know it will take a long time for me to be actually good at it, and I still can't afford lessons and learn by watching tutorials and stuff, that's fine, I'm doing it because it is nice and I want to do it, and even though I'm not actually interested in performing it really feels like I'm doing something for myself, and I can already play two or three full songs!:')

I remember watching this in high school being like, "all of these people are gay." No, Aslee, YOU are gay. I mean, Hayley Kiyoko was also gay, but not the character. I really do think that it's awesome that I had all these characters to relate to as a young musician, even though I played the flute and abandoned it immediately after graduating. I wanted to be Stella, but I knew I was an Olivia deep down inside. Also I have a crush on Tisha Campbell and I have since I was a little kid. She's so gorgeous and always hilarious.

Hayleys character could have been gay in this. She's the only one without a love interest, which is typical Disney for not straight.

Honestly, I gotta agree with you on the songs. Most of them aren’t that good. Determinate and she’s so gone are bops tho, and I just have a soft spot for more than a band. I also really love that you guys appreciated the attempt at more realism/diversity with their personal problems. This movie was really refreshing with that, and with Mono making her idiot ex earn a reconnection. Two things I think you missed tho: •They attacked the guys moving the lemonade machine bc they put hands on Stella which is not okay. I get that she was stopping them doing their job but it’s still illegal and more importantly immoral to just grab a kid and bodily lift her w/o permission. •Stella’s family was really chill but at least her parents weren’t particularly supportive until later. They didn’t realize she was vegetarian for 4 months until she was a dick about it at dinner. That scene was there to imply that they don’t pay much attention to what she’s doing bc it’s not as impressive as what the rest of them do, so she didn’t just develop that complex out of nowhere lol

man, i wish i had given more of a chance to music as a kid. I felt like it was no use because i had nothing to say and that i wasn't as obsessed with music as other people. Rookie mistake, kids

I actually have a pretty cool “this really does happen” story. I was at lunch during my sophomore year in high school and one of the wrestlers at the table behind me started singing amazing grace, and then I joined in bc why not and then a baseball boy joined in and we had a full on jam sesh at lunch. Sounds super fake but it does happen

It’s kind of funny that you guys say small town talent shows are pointless because they’ll get you nowhere and then immediately after you say “you don’t need a reason to play music other than you like it”. 😂

Their was a violin used in the book i think they had some classical instruments mixed in and were more interesting as a band but they stream lined it for the film

Okay so this has never happened to me but as far as I know, at least in America, kids DO taken to “jail” (a cell) and wait until a legal guardian picks them up OR social services steps in. They wouldn’t get driven to their houses.

As someone whos like read the book Lemonade Mouth 4 times, the movie is based on a few things get lost in translation that might be a little out of place if not reading the source material. For example, the narrator in the book wasn't only Olivia, It was a character cut from the movie who was i believe Mo's friend who ran the school newspaper. Lots of individual 'interviews' were peppered throughout the book to lead into parts that showed different character povs. That's part of why the description at the beginning sounds so weird bc no one would ever describe themselves that way, and they didn't! Another aspect that got lost (that i see many other people commenting) is that all of the characters started out playing instruments that were not traditionally 'rock band' or even like pop band instruments and their sound is described as very unique. There were also more songs mentioned that got cut from the movie, one even being about Olvia's cat Nancy, which makes her passing much more impactful in the book. I believe their original instruments were Olivia: vocals and accordion, Mo: stand-up bass (in orchestra AND in the band), Wen trumpet, Stella Ukulele, and Charlie played traditional drum set with a bunch of other unique drums added to his set up. There were also many plot points that got cut or edited to be more family friendly, like the details of why Olivia's father is in prison and Nancy's death, Wen's crush on his dad's girlfriend turned stepmom, Charlie's stillborn twin brother, Mo having a pre-arranged marriage while dating and Stella struggling with having Dyslexia. the way they help each other through their struggles and how they work through them really makes the book feel unique. There was even more about the struggle with school authority as the band became more popular with the students leading to an almost underground resistance to the school government as they tried to strike the band and supporters down.

The sponsorship was for the school, not the band. The gym was built by the Turbo Blast people. The band is being sponsored by Mel's Lemonade.

I think I liked the story focusing on the kids and their families more than when they were focusing on the band. I was definitely a lot more invested in that part of the movie especially the guy with the step-mother and Olivia's family storyline.

Yes my bullying experience was also very similar i.e. essentially getting blamed for getting bullied. I remember a girl picking on me in class when I was in middle school while the teacher wasn't around(we had a volunteer watching us). I started getting really upset so my friend took me to the bathroom so I could calm down in private. When we came back the teacher tried to make it seem like we were ditching and implied that we could be suspended(thankfully that didn't happen).
