As a kid in the 80s, religiously watching and playing snooker and also pool, Len Ganley seemed ever present, along with John Street and John Williams. Great sense of humour and a top referee

Back in the day I remember Ganley, John Williams (who refereed the famous 85 World final), John Smythe, Alan Chamberlain and John Street of the buffon hairstyle.

Loved watching this, he was a great character and knew what was wrong with the game, that was never sorted out. Now we can blame Dennis Taylor for the stupid change to the miss rule😂

On one occasion Len in his usual style said "Quiet please, quiet please". The TV camera panned over to the audience where two or three members of it were trying to help someone who was having a serious medical issue. But whatever your opinion of a situation like this Len was a consummate professional as a Snooker referee.

Is there video of Dennis Taylor's miss situation at the world championships anywhere? Surprised it hasn't made it to KZbin yet
@digeme69 Жыл бұрын
it's definitely on one of the musical montages, where Taylor is heard saying "Len, I'm trying my best to hit it, I've missed it by that much" He demonstrates with his hand that it was millimetres away.

I wonder how the two strokes he had affected him. Here and there in his mannerisms are signs that remind me a lot of a person I know who had a stroke.

It's Peter Gordeno as this was from Pro Celebrity Snooker in the early 80s. He was Reardons doubles partner here. He was a singer and dancer and his son also named Peter is a songwriter and has toured with Depeche Mode for many years

Len chinned Alex Higgins after Reardon beat him 21-3 in the final of the Irish Open. Higgins threatened Reardon for hammering. Ray laughed it off.
