An excellent video, thank you for airing a long overdue aspect of our little friends ! Also... please make a definitive video about safe temperatures for buns. This winter there's sadly been so many tragedies (again) with poor little things freezing due to being kept outside in hutches, especially those alone, those without so much as a single companion to cuddle up to. Just because they're given some hay to lay on doesn't mean they're going to keep warm. Some owners need to be instructed and to understand that in the wild buns are comfortably deep underground in their burrows, well away from ground level frost, deep in the earth where temperatures are permanently above zero all winter, and remain cool for the little things during the summer months.

As cute as lops are, the way humans have bred them can cause a lot of health problems: they are prone to ear infections, and rabbits with brachycephaly (smoosh faces, e.g., Holland Lops, Netherland Dwarfs) are prone to respiratory issues. Sad how humans have caused these issues, and even sadder that people just dump them when they become too much work!

same. i actually thought my bunny was deaf for a while because of that but thats not the case. she is just not afraid. she flopped in the middle of the room and didnt even flinch when i did loud renovations on my apartment. she sleeps on her back, belly fully exposed (she has no medical issues i had her checked). and she greets everyone she meets, even when theyre not friendly shell ignore red flags so i have to remove her myself. i dont know whether thats because she has never made any actual bad experiences in her life so far and thus feels super safe in our home or whether thats a trait that was actively reinforced through breeding.

This was fascinating! Love it! It also may explain something I've been wondering about. Of my 3 girls, Sierra is the most skittish. I've worked hard with her and our relationship has developed really well, but she is still the most likely sister to run or hide. I had thought maybe she was a bit of a throwback based on her appearance and personality. She looks exactly like a wild rabbit, only larger, has an adventurous spirit, and gets very anxious around anyone but me. The first time I took her to the vet, she told me Sierra has the (somewhat strange to me) distinction of having the largest skull of the 3 sisters. Watching this video, I now believe this indicates she has the largest brain as well, and with it the heightened ability to process fear stimuli. It's wonderful to have this insight into how my beautiful little girl thinks! Regardless, I accept this as her personality and will continue to shower her with love when she allows it. Thank you once again Lorelei for posting a video that is as informative as it is entertaining! Love to Lennon!!!

I have read that angora rabbits may have been the first to be intentionally bred in ancient Anatolia (Greece/Turkey) on small islands in the Aegean Sea by King Mausoleus (300 B.C.!) for his wife (who was also his sister 🙄) and the rabbits were kept to breed on ‘rabbits islands’ for almost 2,000 years while their wool was used to make prized antique Turkish rugs before they were sent in hutches to France/Germany in the late 17th century for wool production and also to Queen Marie Antoinette as gifts for the French court.
