I respect Lewis, but this is B.S. Beating Tyson in 2002 means absolutely nothing. Beating him in 1985-1989 would mean everything. Even if Tyson was one-dimensional (which he is not), nobody could cope with his speed, agility, head movement and power. Tyson knocked people out because they couldn't see his punches coming. Tyson threw a 3 punch combo and the opponent didn't even see one punch coming. Prime Tyson also had excellent chin. Tyson didn't jab, every punch he threw had mean intentions. He was like a raptor hunting down big and slow dinosaurs. He was not a staller, he never coasted to victory, he fought to finish the fight as soon as possible. He is everything the boxing is not today. He was one of a kind.

I say mike tyson is the best not boxer but fighter using boxing to fight, look at him he is 5'1 and knocked everyone out, look at Hollyfield, Lewis these are very big guys, by the time Tyson fought Lewis he used alot of drugs and was not the same anymore, and say what you like but Tyson rly could have beaten Hollyfield he was always more determined to win, and that made him lose his discipline when Holly-molly headbutted him. such a small fighter for a heavyweight, unstoppable and relentless, huge spiritual and physical preparation,said he never studies his opponents just trains for 10 rounds. fighting like Achilles he always says that the spirit makes you a great fighter. most exciting style of all time

"At my worst I beat Vitali." Prove it. You could just as easily say pre-prime Vitali dominated near prime Lewis. What is a fact is Vitali dominated Lewis in that fight landing 157 punches to Lewis's 102, and Vitali beating him on the score cards but two rounds. Lewis promised Vitali a rematch, then thought better of it when Vitali knockout out his next opponents in only two rounds. The look on Lewis's face after the fight was of a badly beaten man. Vitali retired Lewis.

+Toon Talk with Mina & Moby Wrong, Lewis was actually training for a world heavyweight fight, and his opponent got injured, so Vitali took the fight with only 10 days notice. Vitali landed over 50% more punches against Lewis, and won twice as many rounds as Lewis. Lewis was rocked and hurt twice, and was the more tired at the end of the fight, Lewis was ready to get TKO'ed. Lewis promised Vitali a rematch after the fight, but after Vitali knocked out his next opponent in only 2 rounds, Lewis chickened out. Vitali dominated Lewis so bad he retired. @RobertJBarnes9 жыл бұрын
+David Keir "'At my worst I beat Vitali.' Prove it." ???????? He did prove it. Did you not see the fight? "You could just as easily say pre-prime Vitali dominated near prime Lewis." -- Yeah, you can say those words. Nothing is stopping from saying stupid stuff. ---- "pre-prime Vitali" ------ He was 31 years old. That is prime. That was the last fight he lost. ---- "dominated" ------ WHAT? It was 4 rounds to 2. [should have been 3 -3] All that means is he won one more round. 6 rounds to 0 is dominating. Lewis turned the tide anyway. Lewis was landing huge uppercuts in the 6th while slapped his punches. Vitali was done. ---- "near prime Lewis" ------ Again, WHAT?!? Apparently you have never seen the man fight before. He was in great shape against Tyson and he has no where near prime. In his fight against Klitschko he was, as Jim Lampley put it, "flagrantly out of shape." "What is a fact is Vitali dominated Lewis in that fight landing 157 punches to Lewis's 102, and Vitali beating him on the score cards but two rounds." -- LOL "but two rounds" It was 4 rounds to 2. He only won one more round and Lewis has doing the heavy damage late while Vitali faded. "Lewis promised Vitali a rematch, then thought better of it when Vitali knockout out his next opponents in only two rounds." -- 1. What was he supposed to say when the disrespectful knuckle-head was bugging him in the ring after the fight? 2. Lewis doesn't owe anyone a thing. -- "Vitali knockout out his next opponents in only two rounds." ---- Thanks for mentioning that, because, it proved that Lewis at his worst beat a prime Vitali. "The look on Lewis's face after the fight was of a badly beaten man." -- Do you know what confirmation bias is? Because, you need to look it up. -- Oh the sweet sweet irony, did you see Vitali's face? He had the look of a man who had been through a train wreck. "Vitali retired Lewis." -- Lewis beat all best heavyweights of his era and he beat the best one of the next era, when he pounded Vitali's face in. And he did it when he was a his worst. Class Dismissed ! *mic drop*

Lewis destroyed Donovan Ruddock in the first round and put him to sleep! Tyson lost to Kevin McBride, Danny Williams, Buster Douglas and then got smashed hard by a much better fighter - Evander Holyfield. Evander Holyfield was the best of the best, better than any other American fighter until he fought lewis. Guess what - Lewis beat Evander Holyfield.. Then later when they did fight after Tyson ducking Lewis as Bowe did! They fought and Tyson at the same age as Lewis got Destroyed with a KO. Tysin is over rated and Lewis underrated. The facts speak for themselves. Facts - Deal with it. Lewis lost to no one in any pro-fight worth talking about. He through re-match undefeated.

You probably haven't watched the Lennox Lewis documentary here on youtube, where it becomes clear that Lewis and Tyson were sparring frequently when both were younger and Tyson only won once (in their first encounter when he overwhelmed an unprepared Lewis with his animal ferocity - after that it was all Lewis. That's why Tyson and lots of others ducked Lennox all the time. Why do you think he paid him 4 million bucks NOT to fight him?).

Tyson was in bad shape and lost many fights to low-class heavyweights. If Tyson was mentaly and physically preped like the twenties. Then no chance for any boxer in the ring. Most ppl dont agree with Lewis.
@cecilmorgan50848 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree with him. In the day I was a massive Tyson fan, but looking back at it from a more mature perspective I realise that what Lewis said was true: Tyson was a KO specialist who overwhelmed club fighters. At 21 he was as good as he was going to get. Why? Which of the greats can you say that about? A heavyweight continues to improve until he's almost 30, and sometimes beyond. Not Tyson, because the standard of the fighters he faced got better, and he couldn't adapt his style to incorporate this. In boxing, like many other sports, you only look as good as the opponent allows. Therefore when you see film of a 19-20 year old Tyson smashing oldish guys with overall negative records and hear his clearly deluded fans call him the greatest ever you have to laugh. Amateur experience does count for something. Lewis fought in two Olympics and was a well-rounded fighter. In spite of the repeated insults about some fictional mental deficiency in Lewis, he clearly is a man of character who knows his own mind, makes a decision, and follows through on it. My admiration for him keeps climbing.

+aedivian These are the same old "poor Mike" excuses Tyson fans have been making for years. "If Cus hadn't died... yah-de-yah-de-yah." I begin to wonder who was doing the actual fighting. Every fighter is exploited, to a greater or lesser degree, that's the nature of the business. Imagine what it was like for those people 50 and more years ago, esp. With organised crime involved, esp. for black fighters. Yet with all that, they still remained great fighters, they still had the dedication. Tyson was not great. Compared to true greats he was barely adequate. His character was weak: when things go wrong, that's when you need to stand up and show yourself a man. Tyson imploded. The second Holyfield fight showed him for what he was. Championship boxing is the one sport above all others that shows before the whole world who you are. Look at Ali-Frazier, III in particular. No-One who saw those two can have any doubt about their character or greatness.

Absolute nonsense Lewis was destroying him the further the fight was going on, his punches were landing big time in his face. The fight would have been over within a round or two anyway.
@Dante-vf4sd8 жыл бұрын
***** And yet you`re making uncertain assumptions also. You use likelihood based on pure speculation without any evidence , your entire premise is based on fatigue and a claim to know better than a professional trained doctor. My claim is backed up by evidence in terms of the way the fight was going in the last few rounds and the fact that Klitchko`s face was a bloody mess. A boxer with Lewis power was going to do far more damage regardless of his fatigue. You can buy what you like.
@Dante-vf4sd8 жыл бұрын
***** I`m not making any claims of absolute fact or certainty at all, I`m making a claim of probability given the evidence of what was happening in the latter rounds. Lewis was increasingly breaking through Klitchko`s defense with piledrivers to his head, given the damage to Klitchko`s head already its highly unlikely he would`ve survived much longer. You`re simply claiming that through fatigue Lewis power would be reduced and Klitchko`s endurance would be fine. The power generated by Lewis in his punches regardless of fatigue is incredible and their was no evidence of reduced power. Some doctors do let fights go on too long, this doctor stopped it when it needed to be, if anything it should`ve been sooner. If he hadn`t it would only add to the probability of Lewis getting in more piledrivers and knocking him out and causing permanent and extreme damage to Klitchko`s eye and brain. Nothing is guaranteed, the probability, given the evidence, is the .issue.
@Dante-vf4sd8 жыл бұрын
***** A split nose and a split eye are totally separate issues, if you can`t see properly you have no chance of avoiding piledrivers from certain angles, piledrivers he was consistently receiving toward the end of the fight and piledrivers that caused the split in the first place along with the rest of his mashed up face. Its not my problem that I didn`t see any power drop in Lewis punches because there wasn`t any, again Lewis punches are devastating even when tired. You make a claim of absurdity even though the fact is his eye and face as a whole was shot and Lewis was continually landing heavily, the doctor knew it was time or the damage would be untenable. What happened before that time in terms of points gained is irrelevant, what is happening in the moment is the only thing relevant and that is why Lewis won the fight and Klitchko lost. No one had knocked Klitchko out before because no one had punished him like that before. The division was full of journeymen up until he got so old Fury beat him. Lewis was of a much higher standard than Klitchko`s future opponents, not even comparable. there aren`t too many improbabilities for you to accept the reality, you simply refuse to. You have a good day also.

My favorite fighter of all time is Ali. But my favorite fighter to watch during my lifetime, that I ALWAYS rooted for was Lennox Lewis. I started watching his fights when he was skinny and had a nappy ass flattop. The first fight of his I saw was against a guy named Phillip Jackson. Lewis' hand speed and combination punching was scary-good. Needless to say, he dominated Jackson, but there was this sequence at the end of one of the mid-late rounds where Lewis did a Bruce Lee impersonation, complete with high pitched vocalization, and fired off like a ten punch combination which dropped Jackson (unfortunately after the bell). From that moment, I felt like I was a boxing insider because while everyone was saying 'Tyson this, Riddick that, Holyfield whatever' at that point I was sure he was better than all three of them. And I was right. He KO'd Tyson, beat Holyfield, and Bowe was scared to fight him. I couldn't care less that he wasn't American; him being freakin awesome was enough for me.

Lewis talking like he destroyed Vitali Klitschko: "Look what I did to his face!" Um...you got created a cut over his eye from the stitching of your glove; it's one of the oldest moves in boxing. Klitschko wasn't deteriorating after five rounds like Lewis said he was. Yes, Lewis was gaining a little bit of momentum before the fight was stopped, but Klitschko had won almost every round beforehand on the all judges' scorecards. The Klitschko's don't tire in the later rounds of boxing; not then, not now. That fight could have gone either way in my opinion, but I'll never consider Lennox Lewis a better champion that Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko. Last thing: Vitali took that fight with Lewis on a couple weeks notice, so Lennox can take that out-of-shape excuse elsewhere...

Im not 100% sure Lennox would beat a Prime Mike Tyson..... it took him 8 rounds to beat a terrible version of Tyson way past his prime.... Tyson at 23 was fast , great stamina , great chin , fast hands and bombs...he would only need to land once
@tonybennett33510 жыл бұрын
Tyson never had great stamina. Besides Lewis could have ended that fight way earlier he punished Tyson for his behaviour. So that theory goes out the window. Both fighters had slowed down. Lewis had bombs in his hands also. He finished the same opponents as tyson quicker & in more devastating fashion.
@Khaos96910 жыл бұрын
tony bennett Yes Tyson did used to have good stamina when he wont the undisputed world title he was going 12 rounds easy with the likes of Bonecrusher Smith & Mitch Blood Green , when Lewis beat Tyson he was out of him prime by a good decade even Lewis said after the fight Tyson peaked at 19 ... Lewis finished Razor Ruddock quicker, but Tyson finished Bruno quicker...that comes down to styles...if you want to talk about it like that Tyson had more 1 round finishes at the top level then anyone... a 22 year old would have to fight a 33 year old Lewis for them both to be at there prime.... Heavyweights tend to reach there peak in there early to mid 30s , Tyson was a freak of nature who peaked at 19 - 23 before going to prison.... he didnt box a single round for 3 years in prison...while guys like Lennox and Holyfield remained active. Prison ruined Tyson
@tonybennett33510 жыл бұрын
Khaos969 Are you for real you have just hit the nail on the head. Tyson went all 12 rounds with Bonecrusher who Marvis Frazier beat hardly impressive & 10 rounds with Mitch fucking green. If that had been Lennox neither man would have lasted near those rounds. It is a known fact stated from Tyson own mouth he had severe asthma problems. That is why he always tried to finish fights as early as possible. You can never say this fighter would have won over that fighter when the fought Tyson was second best end of.

Martin Klobschinsky All Boxers talk big, Ali did, as did Frazer, Foreman, Lewis, Tyson etc., it's a natural aspect of the sport. To say Lewis was not a great champion like Tyson was, that's just utter bull shite. At least when Lewis had a championship fight he didn't try to bite his opponents ears off, head-butt, break their arms, throw a tantrum in the middle of the ring (and during weigh-ins and press conferences) and probably most importantly, he didn't fight just for the money like Tyson did. Now, take that into account and think again about Lewis not being a great champion like Tyson was.

Lewis beats any version of Tyson. Period. "Prime" Tyson is the biggest myth in the history of the sport. "Prime" Tyson was a hairs breath away from being outboxed by journeyman James Tillis in 86. Couldn't put away mediocrities like Mitch Green or James Smith in 12-rounders. Had his hands full with a broken-fisted Tony Tucker. He was good. Great actually. But the myth is bigger than reality. Lennox was everything Tyson couldn't deal with it. Huge size, great jab, excellent distance control, could throw every punch in the book, and with tremendous power behind it. I don't see how anyone can really think Tyson stands a chance.

Funny, around the 2:00 mark Lennox says Tyson paid him step aside money to fight Holyfield instead. The TRUE story was that Don King offered Lennox $13 million to fight Tyson but turned it down. So Lennox went to court for a second time to sue for another belt. The court fees cost $4 million, so King took the $9 million left over and offered Holyfield the Tyson fight, and Holyfield accepted. So why did Holyfield accept the offer, FOR LESS MONEY, but Lennox turned it down?

Lennox tried to fight Mike Tyson in his prime but, as he said there, Tyson paid him to step aside. Thus Tyson ducked him. Lennox didn't duck Tyson. After Lennox beat Tyson, George Foreman said Lennox Lewis is undoubtedly the greatest heavyweight in history. Regarding the fight against Vitali, I don't agree. Everyone keeps saying Lennox was out of shape etc etc and took the fight on two weeks notice. What they fail to mention is he already had a training camp for his other fight before that guy (not going to bother doing research now) pulled out. Vitali is the one that was at the biggest disadvantage, not Lennox. Vitali came in at 2 weeks notice and didn't have a full training camp like Lennox had. I like Lennox, but he knows, deep down that he ducked that rematch and it will always leave a stain on his legacy. If he took that rematch and beat Klitschko, I'd say, "Okay, well done, you've beaten Vitali and showed you're the best." But he never did. That's why he'll always over exaggerate how easily he'd beat Vitali. In all his interviews he says Holyfield was the best he ever fought, when it was clearly Vitali. Holyfield never had him in the kind of trouble Vitali had him in. Lennox says, "Look what I did to his face." But that wasn't because of punches, it was because he used a dirty tactic and cut Vitali's eye with the laces of his glove in the clinch. I personally think, in terms of pure achievements, Lennox is up there with Ali, but that Vitali rematch will haunt him forever.

During the last Round of the Lewis/Klitschko match, Klitschko was almost dead on his feet, he threw very little at Lewis and kept held of him while Lewis was smacking him with Uppercuts. Lewis knew he was in danger, especially in that last round, and up'd his game. Another Round or two Klitschko would have been on the deck or would have been stopped by the Ref. He was done for, but he showed a lot of Heart & had a few Rounds on Lewis, and no one can take that away from Vitali.

Lennox was a great champion and he may have taken out Klitschko but Klitschko had plenty left in the tank. He was not going to run out of gas and it would have taken a lot to stop him. Correct me if I'm wrong but during the time of the fight Tyson was already on the meds that took away most of his anger and explosiveness?? I remember in one interview Mike said that the meds took the edge out of his boxing and he didn't feel like he wanted to "kill" the opponent so it affected his training and power in the ring in a bad way. He didn't have the desire to train hard or knock his opponent down like he had before. Mike Tyson before taking the meds was the ideal boxer full of ADRENALINE but that didn't work in life outside the ring.

Klitsckho was ahead on points when the fight was stopped Lewis was ordered to fight Klitsckho again and retired its clear he was scared of Klitschko. As they said Lewis won the fight Klitscho won the event.

When he says that nowadays heavyweights train only for five rounds he means they actually train for three? I'm a bit confused..

Lennox is nothing in comparison to Tyson, hes tall, hes arrogant, but he has nowhere near the talent or legendary status. Sure he could beat Mike Tyson after hes been in prison for 3 years has lost his coach and guidance and has emotional and drug problems and isnt anywhere near his peak condition. if u have have e ref. that lets him tie him up and tire him down using a ll the cheap tricks a taller man can use. At the end of the day it's about fighting, being 6.4 and holding the arms of a man 5.11 making them tired isnt something history will remember as great. Lennox Lewis was a great fighter but not a legend. Mike Tyson is the goat, no question about that, but when he lost his coach Cus he lost the edge, the stuff that made him and will always make him the Legend, the greatest of all time. At only 5.11 and similar reach he had nowhere near the phisical attributes to become the hw champion, but he defied all odds, because of his speed and use of perfect body movement behind every punch and combination was at another level then any other boxer to this day. At his peak the bigger oppoent just meant easer target to hit.

gunnar samuelsson hahaha Lewis beat every heavyweight in his era. You little casual to say he is not an all-time great is laughable. He was the King in the 90s and everyone who knows anything about boxing would tell you that. Only casuals like you would ever consider Mike Tyson as the goat.

after the 1st tyson fight there was a rematch clause in favor of lewis choice. lewis chose the rematch date because the 1st fight did so well money wise, but tyson backed out because he wasnt ready to fight again competitively so soon so vitali was the last minute replacement. vitali was originally on the undercard of the tyson lewis 2 fight and was well trained while lewis didnt train becuase tyson pulled out. last minute they made vitali fight at the main event against lewis instead of tyson

Lennox Lewis is the only fighter who gave Vitali Klitschko more punches than he has ever received in a solid fight even though Vitali was ahead on the judges' scorecards. He made Klitschko's eye bloodied. Vitali would have been one-eyed by now.

Mayor Fergie shit was dirty, he pulled off a headbutt and glove scrape to get that eye cut. fact is if he would have given Klitschko the rematch he promised and didnt run off into retirement he would have got beat. Vitali was a heavier puncher with a more solid chin who had never been knocked down in his whole career. the only fights he lost were stoppages.

Rhyme Oddysey It wasn't a headbutt, it was reviewed over and over again and proved the Cut was caused by a legitimate punch kzbin.info/www/bejne/raXHgKebiZp6ZrM www.boxinglatest.co.uk/2008/05/vitali-klitschko.html

Azte ka Lewis nver fought a good fighter in his prime. he fought old holyfield and old tyson and outta shape Morrison the only good fighter he fought was vital who beat him every round until that cut and even Lewis was knocked out win wining every round
@cousinwes17 жыл бұрын
Gervon Mcintyre no Tyson never fought and beat a top fighter in his prime- he always lost or ducked fighters INCLUDING Lewis! Lewis beat a very good roided up evander twice! Destroyed a prime Ruddock who had a life and death battle with Tyson the fight before, beat the two up and coming American hypes who beat foreman - Morrison and a prime Briggs, beat the giant undefeated top contender and American hype (Micheal grant), eventually beat up and knocked out Tyson after beating him in sparring in the 80s, he knocked out bowe in the Olympics. He faced and beat tua- who Tyson didn't face, he beat golota, he beat McCall (who knocked Tyson out in sparring) he beat Rahman,he beat Bruno, he beat Botha, he beat tony tucker, he bet tyrell Biggs, he beat Gary mason, ray mercer, akinwande, he beat the best fighter of the next generation - a prime vitali Klitschko- legitimately by smashing his face up to be stopped . He faced and beat everyman who would face him.

This interview is frustrating. Tyson was very honest in his assessment of his skills during different time periods of his career and provided non-biased analysis. Klitschko was dominating Lewis, but, because of a bloody nose or eye -- whatever -- the fight was stopped. Because of the doubt, Lewis should have offered a rematch -- just like Tyson did with Ruddock. Tyson had nothing to gain and everything to lose with the rematch. Tyson also was not the same fighter post-prison.

Tyson got beat for the Olympics, Holyfield and Lewis didn’t. They would’ve always been a problem for Mike at the same time Lennox admitted Buster showed him how to beat Tyson so he contradicted himself.

It would of been interesting to see a prime Tyson vs a prime Lewis, I agree when Lewis fought him Tyson was past his best, he had been since he got released from prison and fired his trainer Kevin Rooney. I wonder how a prime Tyson would of faired against the much bigger 6ft 5 dynamic opponent that was Prime Lewis? Tyson mainly seemed to specialise in knocking out fighters between 6'1 ft - 6ft 3.

Everyone with eyes could see klitschko's face was falling apart too... The momentum of the fight was turning in Lewis' favor and he won fair and square.

Lewis fought a Tyson who was a shell of himself, he would've been easily knocked out in the 80's or early 90s like when he fought Razor Ruddock. And he's not a one dimensional fighter, he fought guys like Tony Tucker who moved around the ring and he had to follow them and Tyson won every round of that fight.
