When Lenny was starting in music, his mother, Roxy Roker, told him he was going to college. Lenny asked for his college money to make an album. Roxy said "If you want to record a song, it better be about JESUS! If I like it, I'll give you the money." He wrote, and played her THIS song, and she gave him the money. This was Lenny's song about Jesus, he wrote for his mother. Listen to the song again, and picture Jesus speaking the lyrics. Lenny Kravitz told this story on a talk show, before he played it.

My all-time favorite Lenny song. The drum work was the first thing that made me take notice - the energy, the ferocity. You would think the drums owe her money after witnessing the savage beating she gives them.

It also has a 60's psychedelic feel, people are wearing "bellbottoms", afros, what we use to call "clogs", the wedge shoes, bolero-like vests with beads, headbands kinda beaded, very, very reminiscent of the 1960's hippies and flower children. That part where Lenny was playing off bassist, reminded me of when Jimi Hendrix was playing with his bassist Noel, was a cool scene, and the girl on drums was killing it. Check out the other rockin one he does, Fly Away, its tremendously thunderous. And "I belong to you", so elegantly beautiful. Enjoy, Peace✌

Besides Lenny being a force of nature, just by him playing and moving like that, in a gorgeous red King outfit, as with many of his songs, there is always a particular part that sticks with me as a label, whenever I want to pull that song out of my mind and vibe with it, that guitar hook at the beginning...maaaaannnnnn...it's like Jimmi's Voodoo Child intro, forever locked inside my heart & soul!! It just represents the Love & Peace vibe for real :-))))

Sounds like something my mother would play around the house. 8. Sounds like 4th of July (a new one). 9. Thanks to whoever suggested this to me (opinion withheld). 10.
