Lenny is a series of prerecorded announcements that make the telemarketer think they're talking to a real person. This one was particularly funny because the person calling Lenny wasn't a person at all.... She was a highly sophisticated artificial intelligence named Sarah Jones. I get about 10 per day and my phone is a paperweight. People ask why I don't get back to them. Well if I haven't received a call from you and it rungs unknown, I get ten per day. 5 of those are leaving messages. Blocking the numbers does nothing.

What I like to do is press 1 for a real person. After they come on, I say one thing so they start their spiel, and I put in earplugs and blow a whistle right into the mic really, really long and loud. I love when they hang up on me. An alert to those who try this: one time, they called right back to try to get revenge on me by putting me on hold a long time playing music, then when a person came on, it was just background noise, no one talked, so they were mad and trying to waste my time. If you do the loud whistle and you get a call back in the next minute or two, either ignore it, or pick up and hang up, because it's them.

The whole idea of blowing the whistle into the phone is dumb, first of all it doesn't really come out as loud as you think it does or as loud as it is on your end of the phone. Next it doesn't really freak them out or hurt them or even really bother them they just shrug it off and move on to the next call. Also the whole idea of getting revenge on the caller may not always be a good idea because you never know what information they may have on you or what kind of person they are. At the very least they have your name, your phone number and may have your address. It's also possible, especially if you've done business with them before they may have a lot more information. The easiest thing to do that also works in your advantage is just to tell them to remove you from their calling list. By law they have to do that and usually they will stop their spiel and inform you that they will remove you from the list and exit the call. something else you can do is tell them it's a children's line and again they will remove the number from the list. Anything else you say to them can get you put right back on the list of calls that are made, so in a day or two you may get another call. Sometimes that's their revenge for people being rude to them they just throw you back in the system to be called again, unless you tell them specifically to remove you from the calling list. Unless they're really being rude or doing something wrong there's really no need to get really mad. yes it can be irritating at times but all you have to do is tell him to remove you from the list and that ends the call.

First, I don't blow my whistle in the ear of an agent representing a business I've done business with, because it is legal that they are allowed to call you, no matter what you tell them about what list to take you off of or keep you on, dummy. It's nice that you think that since it's "the law", that these spam callers must put me on their "do not call list" but it is bullsh*t. I've told them that, and they have still called back the next week. Are you not aware of the National Do Not Call Registry? I am on that. Therefore, I should NOT be receiving ANY unsolicited calls from any business I do not do business with. And I do. Therefore, they are already doing things that are illegal, and telling them to remove your number from their call list will have no effect. You also disregard the fact that it gives me the satisfaction of blowing my whistle in their ear and that I'm irritated by their useless calling over and over, several times a week on both my landline, AND my mobile, rather than just saying to them "please put me on your do not call list." It just isn't as satisfying. And I don't really need to debate with you how _loud_ it is or not. I don't really care, you're being stupid to even bring up how loud it is or that it is less loud on whoever's end of whatever. It is loud enough to do the job. You also disregard the fact that I just told you that the last spammer called right back in the next few minutes after I blew my whistle in his ear. If it "doesn't bother them" as you say, why did he call back for revenge? According to you, he should not have been bothered in the least, and just "move on" to the next victim. I guess he was bothered enough, and I guess that would make you wrong.

They just take advantage of the naïve and trusting elderly, and it is an epidemic now. I get calls almost weekly, and they call several times in a row when they don’t get an answer. There was a popular scam going on recently with Chinese speakers taking advantage of and scaring the local Chinese population. They’d hang up if they heard English come out of your mouth. Now I’m getting “Improve your credit rating” spam calls or some such nonsense. Have you noticed, they don’t have a legitimate phone number you can call them back on? They hide their real number behind a local-looking number. That’s because they are changing the meta data so you are convinced to pick up, and you can’t trace them. Do you think they’ll stop calling just because you ask them nicely to? Ha ha. Rory IS a *TOOL* , and woefully misinformed, or just plain stupid. I.M. Askance A lot of these callers will ask a yes or no question at the beginning of a conversation just to get you to say yes. Find any other way to answer those questions! They can use the recording to say that you agreed to purchasing any number of things.

My phones (iPhones AND land lines) have "hold" buttons but I kind of like the sound the phone company provides when there no longer anyone on the line. BTW, I just read (on Monday) about some talking head who robo called the chairman of the FCC. If I recall correctly he set his computer up to dial the chairman's number every 90 seconds. Of course we all know that the National Do Not Call Registry is pretty much useless. However I also read about one phone customer that sued her phone company and got a sizeable judgement. I think it actually was paid. We should all be so lucky.

I work in a call center. We don't sell anything. We call people to send them stuff they've already paid for. I got one of these one time. I got suspicious when the recording said they were literally on the other side of the country from where the person lived. But who knows, people own cell phones and travel. It stopped answering the questions I was asking after the first couple, and when I asked if there was a better time to call back it said something about the time, and it wasn't the right time for where it said it was.

I'm a caretaker for a demented woman- 84 yr old, lots of telemarketers call, everyday, about 25x daily. She answers phone calls. Lately I been intercepting them. She agree to offers not needed. Just yesterday another repeat caller from Marathon Florida. I answered to give em lip!! So I said you place calls several times a day. She said its the first. I said not by the call list on the phone, then I hung up. Got called back right away. But I hit the answer button then hang up. Most the time I have this little electronic device I found that makes dog barking sounds. I hit the answer botton as I activate the dog barking then hang up. I have more than enough to do without being bothered by unwanted calls. If up to me I would remove all the phones she can get to (3 of them) and leave the one on upper floor on. I only use my cell phone, not hers, except to keep her from agreeing to whatever sales pitch comming in. She's been told numerous times by her family not to answer that phone, for important calls go through my phone. Ti all you telemarketers- if anything is needed/wanted, anyone can contact through internet or google. That I have, she doesn't. Absolutely no need to call for offers. We can find what is needed without you!🙈🙉🙊📞🚫

My real telephone answer to Human solicitors... "Kenoshiwa, Mushi Mushi! Doetouchemushta, Arrigata, Syno nara...".
