I love this show. 2 of my best presenters and being a home and car restorer over 45 years, I love Newport. For years I drove a 1 or 2 1935 Arnold body 3.5 Liter fastback everywhere. These Bentleys are just a great driving cars. From my experience of restoring and past president of the Rolls Royce Foundation, W.O. Bentley was involved with these cars as a consultant. Every single part was modified from the RR part to make it stronger for the use of a sportier car. Thank you both for this lovely presentation of cars and homes .

The unexpected! Jay and Donald take delight in driving around in a humble English working man’s car, in an area where you’d expect to see them in V16, V12 and V8 vehicles! I still remember Dad’s 1960 Morris Oxford. As for that amazing Hudson, it’s something unique for the times! First time I’ve seen the straight 8 under a bonnet too, whereas Jay’s Hudsons are 6s if I recall. The 8 must be super quiet-smooth. Wish Jay and Donald had driven that too. The photography and dialogue in these Audrain programmes give us unique views and insights of Newport. Many thanks, John, Brisbane Australia.

That was very polite of Donald to let Jay talk about the wrong engine for several minutes before correcting him. Reminds me of the guy stuck in the booth with Harry Carey in his later years listening to him tell a story about his granddaughter or something as a triple play was going down on the field.

Look forward to the next show ! Thankyou Gentlemen !

I also love those old Hudsons. Like riding on your living room couch, and so much room in the back seats! In Port Haywood VA near me there used to be a Hudson Dealer. The strange old guy that owned the dealership closed up the dealer part and just sold gas for many years. For some odd reason he put all his unsold new and used cars behind the building instead of in his empTy 6 bay garage. When he died many years latter there was an auction for the cars and no one bid because there where in such bad shape and where sold for scrap.

In England when they refer to a car as 14HP, 7HP etc they are referring to taxable horsepower. This was a formula invented about 1910 to try and estimate the horsepower of an engine. It was not too accurate and became less accurate as time went on and technical developments increase horsepower output. But it continued to be used to calculate annual license fees until 1947. During this period road tax was charged at the rate of 1 pound per horsepower per year. So the tax on this car would be 14 pounds. The buying power of the pound in the 1920s was equal to about $50 in today's money. That means the owner of this car was paying about $700 a year for his tax sticker. You can see why taxable horsepower was so important to the buyer that it would be one of the first things he wanted to know. It probably developed 35 or 40 HP similar to a Model A.

very nice show.Just two little corrections: this Bentley was based on a modified RR 25/30, not 20/25.And there were quite some dropheads/cabriolets , under the pen of different coachbuilders, like Vanden Plas,Cockshoot, Kellner ,Abbott, Carlton etc.Would be better having a bit of music under Donald's reading the house history, a bit dry this way...especially that there was music under the driving of the Morris
