I have a Legion T5 that is AMD based tower and I have upgraded a variety of things on it. It came with the basic CPU cooler so I first upgraded to the Artic Freezer 34 eSports duo and then later to the Deepcool Gamerstorm Castle 240EX. Both upgrades were easy and straightforward. I didn't need any special adapters either. I have also upgraded my RAM, video card, CPU, and power supply. In addition to that, I ordered the VRM heatinks for my motherboard from Lenovo and installed them. I added on a 1TB sata ssd for game storage as well. I would recommend these computers for anyone that wants a decent prebuilt that also allows for a ton of upgrades. Nice video. Interesting to see how other people are choosing to upgrade their Legion Tower 5s.

Did you have to remove backplate for CPU cooler upgrades and if so, how? Would you say that eSports Duo is good cooler for the system? I am rocking Lenovo Legion T5 with RTX3070 and i5 12400f (with bad basically intel box cooler). I am planning to upgrade to 13600k at some point if the motherboard recognizes it. Just need to decide what cooler to pair it with. I only play games, no productive work.

​@@myytti16 yes I removed the backplate. It comes off with a little force but is only held on by some strong adhesive tape. The eSports Duo is a good cooler for that CPU. The 13600K doesn't really need a high end cooler. KZbinr Tech Yes City just posted a good video about using a 13600K with a cheap tower cooler. Worth a watch.

Do you mind sharing what RAM you used in your upgrade? I am currently searching around for what is safe to upgrade, and I currently have the T5 AMD based with 16gb of DDR4 3200MHz RAM trying to get to 36gb.

@@gorko9867 I ordered the KLEVV Hynix RAM off Amazon. It was the DDR4 PC4-25600 3200MHz CL22 1.2V 288 pin. I don't see the version with those specs available on Amazon anymore. However, any RAM with those specs should work. I do see some TEAM GROUP Elite DDR4 model TED432G3200C22DC01 listed on Amazon that would work.

I bought my T5 from legion and it came with a 3070, I was wondering if I can mount a Aio that would cool it even more. Edit- without changing the power supply could I replace the motherboard with the new ones for the 12 Gen chips?

It came with the GPU from Evga. Not sure if there is a good gpu aio out there. Sure yes you could. you may lose the RGB if you had a case with it.

I don't get why theres so many different nzxt coolers. What's the difference between nzxt kraken vs nzxt kraken elite vs nzxt z73 vs nzxt z63 vs x73 vs x63 or x53. On amazon, it lists "NZXT Kraken 240 RGB - 240mm AIO CPU Liquid Cooler - Customizable 1.54"" Square LCD Display for Images, Performance Metrics - High-Performance Pump - 2 x F120 RGB Core Fans - White" but it doesn't list what model. So confusing I'm confused on if this cooler will even be compatible with my motherboard since i tried using a different cooler before called deepcool lt520 and i wanted to swap to rgb fans either by deepcool or some other brand but I was told i wouldnt be able to use it because it requires a sata controller or something Do the guys require you to pay some monthly subscription or something like aida64?

So here is what i read that happens the cpu 4 pin fan header is not PWM meaning its some kind of a modded DC 3 pin so if you get an aftermarket cpu cooler it will run ineffciently. Can someone with a bought aftermarket cpu cooler that has it connected in the cpu 4 pin fan header confirm if it has fan controls?

I used a noctua cooler. There is a bios setting for cooler. I did not have any problems. What are your specs and what are you installing?

Thank you for the shout out haha Is the CPU a 11400? Looks like it with 4.2ghz and the 105w power draw in 3DMark. Rocket Lake is so inefficient above 4ghz, probably because it's equivalent to running a 10600k at close to 5ghz... (The board with what looks like a 6+1+1 phase VRM is pretty impressive for a prebuilt too...)

From my experience there is throtteling on the vrm during 150w+ workloads

@@apotato5563 That would be reasonable. Can run a 11700 lowered to 4.2ghz (from 4.4) probably.

@@RS-nq8xk the 11700 has a max wattage of 180w or 224w. So stock it will throttle but. What I have discovered is that if you keep your pc in balanced mode the cpu is limited to ~80°c and will throttle then. My I9 runs at 4.1Ghz with a 140watt power draw. Considering the 11700/11900 are the same chip just different drivers I think the same will hapend to your cpu

@@apotato5563 I am running the 11700F in an HP Pavilion with its tiny cooler. With a BIOS mod to allow undervolting. Can't adjust temp limit in Throttlestop apparently, so I underclocked it. In Cinebench I find it runs 3.6ghz at about 75w, which is plenty for my usage.

It’s basically just to cool your cpu and I think it also cools the pc a little but you can still swap out your cpu if you end up upgrading with no problem I’m also new to pc I just picked up a legion tower with a 6500xt gpu and 5600g cpu with 8gig of ram. I upgraded to a 3060ti,32gigs of ram and a 850w power supply. I’m looking to get a liquid cooler but that usb 3.0 port is throwing me off since all mine are in use and I don’t understand how to install the extension card he installed.

My psu is only 400w, i tried upgrading to 650w but it shorted immediately! Although my 400w works fine. I had the base ram and bought one more from lenovo site. Nice video. I have a Tower 7i Gen 7 coming my way with an i7 12700K/3080/32 GB DDR5 and was looking to upgrade the cooler once it gets here. I just couldn't pass up on the price and the 12% cash back from Rakuten, and figured I will just upgrade my CPU cooler. I'm probably going to go with a Noctua NH-U12A chromax.Black air cooler. They cool almost as good as the Kraken and are much more quiet. The only thing I'm dreading is getting that backplate off the MoBo. Why they use adhesive there is beyond me. Any tips on removing that back plate will be greatly appreciated.

I have Legion T7 and I'm installing kraken x63. The micro-usb to usb 2.0 connector, where did you connect the USB 2.0? Can't find any internal USB 2.0 header in the mobo. Thanks in advance.

@@simpilot6228 you need to replace the lenovo backplate, it uses m2,5 screws instead of m3 so you need to get a new backplate for your socket. I have heard some people with amd couldn't fit a normal am4 backplate so maybe you need a new motherboard or a drill

So i just bought the lenovo legion t5 with r7 5800 and a 3070, 16gb ram at 3200mhz. My only complaint is the Cpu cooler, same you have. Would the 'Cooler Master MasterLiquid Lite 240' work? Also was there any settings you had to change going from a low watt aircooler to a AIO or was it just plug and play power/settings wise? Sorry if i was hard to understand.

in the bios you can set what type of cooler you have

correct. But just keep it stock it will still work better then the normal air cooler. yes the 240mm cool master will work.

One thing about the AMD versions of this tower is the CPU cooler uses the Intel 1151 socket mounting. As long as you get a cooler that comes with the back plate and mounting for that, you will be fine. I installed the Gamerstorm Deepcool Castle 240EX in mine without any issues or anything extra required.

@@Jshyyy yes. Even though it's an AMD system, the Lenovo motherboard uses an Intel 1151 bracket layout for the CPU coolers.

You do not need to get a aio with rgb. if you got one and did not plug it in it would normal just do noting. unless you programed it 1st and then gave it power. then the only problem would be you could not change it.

Hi sir, i have a question. i have the same model but with a 3070, i want a upgrade the storage populating the second m2 slot, i prefer a 2tb memori, but in the user manual lenovo say support max 1tb storage at slot for 2tb max, but crucial say they're 2tb ssd on this model not give any problem. you can confirm? and, i ve found a very intresting offert for 2tb nvme gen4 of wd black at intresting price, can i buy and upgrade without worrying? Sorry but it's hard to find specific answer for this motherboard...

NH-U9S, NH-D9L, NH-C14S. There are more, pretty much I think the 120mm one would fit to. I do not own one to test it. I can not say it will work. But by the specs it looks like it would fit.

I believe lenovo uses the 11th gen socket (fclga1200) which allows you to upgrade to the i9 10900k or 11900k, personally recommend the i9 10900k for overal performace and the i7 11700k (the 11th gen i9 only gives 5% performance). I will recommend you to upgrade your cpu cooler in that case even the 150w cpu cooler is too weak for an i9/i7 as they have 180w+ power draws. I would like to add that I'm not sure if the bios allows different cpu's

@@apotato5563 do you you know how to update or change the bios because i think thats the problem i ran into i put the i7 11700k lga 1200 in it but it just did the 3 short beeps and 1 long beep when i turned it on but as soon as i put the i5 back in it fired back up.

@@austin6157 there are two things that you can do 1. There is a video made by Iteststuff where he changes an AMD cpu and it worked but that is on AMD and I fon't know if it works with intel. But you can try because it's not permanent and is free 2. You buy a new motherboard, I know this is not fun but the 11700k is more expensive than a new motherboard I recommend an Intel B560 if you aren't going to overclock but you have a K cpu so a Z590 would be nice 'Z' motherboards can overclock, also a new mother board probably allows XMP allowing you to upgrade with non JEDEC ram if you wan't to that is I do recommend starting with option 1 or consulting an expert, I'm just a pc nerd to a proffecional. Option 2 should also be made by doing extra research yourself on what to buy and how to work with a motherboard, I don't want you to lose money on an expensive gaming pc Ps do you know if a 280mm aio fits in the T5's case?
