Because the most useful thing is not the only useful thing. You gotta realize that not every product is meant to deliver the most value for what little money a college student can scrape together. Why buy a rice cooker when you can just use pots and pans; why buy a car when you can take the bus at discounted rates; why even get a mattress when you can just sleep on the floor all the same? I'm the kind of guy that values function over aesthetics, but I've partially come around on well-designed UX. I think a device designed for a particular use case without having to compromise for anything else (and is thus well executed) is a worthy buy. Maybe not for you, maybe not for me, but there are people out there who find it pleasant to use.

Yes if you put it that way. But it is much more convenient by just saying "Hey Google put timer 5 minutes" or "Hey Google chicken Parmesan recipe." Might as well top it off with "Hey Google play What a wonderful world by Louis Armstrong." I used to think the same, until I got one.

I think it's neat and it's certainly good looking. Ironically enough the biggest negative for me is the bold corner design, because I think this flush mounted against a wall would be killer (I don't want to punch a hole in the wall for that corner)

Yeah I believe they can, if you're using the same Google account for all. I've an old Google Home mini that I'm still using together with my Lenovo Smart Display - the closest one to me will end up responding to my voice command.

Paulette Masse 1 second ago Recieved my 10 inch version yesterday, set up easily a little confusion about the video call service but other than that all went well until I tried to add it to my group of three other Google home speakers one of my favorite features is filling the home with my favorite music but I could not add this new speaker to my speaker group. Gave up yesterdaay and tried again this morning, called Lenovo Help Desk and after a long wait was told that they could not help me and gave me a number to call their Tech direct. The number they gave me connected me to Best Buy Geek Squad! and after I explained the problem they were more than happy to come out and set it up for $100. I am currently on hold with Google Home Tech Service and have been for about a hour now, granted most of that time has been waiting for them to get through to Lenovo (just got back to me and Lenovo cut him off) I give up after 1hr and 30min Google Home Tech Service told me to call Lenovo back and ask for a supervisor. It seems at though noone has been brought up to speed on this new device. While I have been waiting I happened upon another video that seems to answer my question (thank you Brett) it appears this device will not! link to other Google speakers in a group but in rereading all of the marketing it sure seems as though the are saying it would connect to other Google audio devices. This is a deal breaker for me and I'm packing it up to ship back.

At this point in time, speaker grouping is not supported. Google is looking to add this feature to Smart Displays in near future.

You can connect it to an external Bluetooth speaker (no 3.5mm jack!) but personally the Smart Display's speaker is clear and has enough oompf (really, I mean bass) for me.

I love the concept but I'm thinking getting one would be redundant for me. I have a Google Home and a Mini. Also an Nvidia Shield on the main TV which now runs Assistant. So it's kind of like I have a smart display that needs to be activated with a button on a remote. I'll wait and see but buying one now seems extravagant given what I already have.

Riley Dumont Google used to sell the Nexus 7 for about the same price. This is basically the same thing in terms of hardware without the battery and with a better speaker. Would really like to see a successor for the Pixel C + a dock so it could act as a smart display.

I'd love Google to integrate Duo into the android Dialer. That way everyone with an android will be able to get Duo calls. Not enough people go to the bother of downloading the separate app even though they're the best clearest reliable video calls
