Good review. I just ordered this P16 Gen 2 as well as a Gigabyte Aorus 17X. From my understanding, Lenovo has a good reliability record (even though the Thinkpads aren't IBM anymore) and I ordered it for that reliability. I find it odd that anyone would complain about it's size or weight. I want a large, well built computer that will last. My current one, an ASUS ROG G750JZ has lasted me 9 years as a work laptop (I work in automation) and is massive...17.3" screen and weighs about 10 lbs. It's 2.5" thick at the back. It still runs fantastically but is outdated and I'm running into software upgrade issues. I haven't had issues with portability, though I haven't had to take an airline flight in awhile. The Lenovo is only 16" and is missing the ethernet port, which was almost a dealbreaker for me. However, I managed to configure exactly what I wanted and Lenovo currently is running deals so I got it at 50% off (I also bought a USB to Ethernet adapter, and additional support). The Aorus has everything I want...size, ports, 2 drives, metal case, but is lacking in one thing...a long track record (I would also need to upgrade one of the drives). From what I'm reading, they are a great laptop if they work. If they don't, the customer service sucks and you're gonna have a bad time. I ordered the Lenovo a week later when I found their deal. I haven't received either laptop yet so not sure what to do. I'm planning on keeping the Lenovo and I'll either keep the Aorus as a backup or return it right away. I wouldn't touch Dell or HP with a ten foot pole. I have never known Dell to be any good. Anywhere I have worked, their products have been a nightmare. HP sucks as a company and their Compaqs always had compatibility issues with automation software. I'm not sure about the quality and compatibility of their latest offerings but my trust level isn't there. I'm curious, if you're still looking at comments from this video, what is your opinion of Gigabyte, and the Aorus 17X?

@@ДмитрийУваров-т4у It's a great laptop by the way, and I returned the Aorus. The only thing I don't like is the screen size is too small, but I knew that going in.

I was thinking of buying this laptop, but that sixty hertz refresh rate on the 4K OLED model is such a deal breaker.
@thesun___
@thesun___ Ай бұрын
@@edwardm9975 A 60 hertz screen is fine for normal work, but as a gamer, a 60 hertz screen isn't very immersive. The 165 hertz panel is only a quad HD IPS one, and for the high price of this machine, you can get a laptop with a way better OLED or mini LED panel.

It would be great if you could include these things in the review as well: - showing BIOS and going quickly through all it's menus to show what configuration options are available - showing `powercfg /a` output in Windows command-line (or `cat /sys/power/mem_sleep` on Linux) to see if the device supports the S3 sleep (suspend-to-RAM) Thanks!

Will Thinkpad be coming back out with a 17" or larger screen in the 4th quarter 2024 or during 2025?

Hello, I work in the construction industry. I want to know which one of the Thinkpad P16 Gen2 and Fury G10 has passed the Mil-Std-810H certification, and which one has a stronger body and is not easy to deform and damage? I want to use it in relatively harsh conditions. Please recommend it. Thank you.

Will have a look at HP, but the package I'm looking at in Belgium right now (13980HX, RTX2000 ada, 128GB RAM, 2TB, 4K OLED) at 3.7k€ (incl. taxes) seems unbeatable... a MBP with similar performance and storage is around 6K (I'm looking to replace my current MBP i9, but 6K is definitely above what I'm willing to spend on a laptop !)

Look at the HP ZBook Studio G11 16” WQUXGA DreamColor Mobile Workstation - Core Ultra 9 185H & NVIDIA RTX 3000 Ada (£3.7K) or the HP ZBook Fury G11 16” UHD Mobile Workstation - Core i9-14900HX & NVIDIA RTX 4000 ada (£3.8K) 👍

@@Dovecomputersthe ultra 9 is very efficient but doesn’t reach (by far) the perf of the fastest i9 HX models (13th or 14th). I’ll check, but as I’m VAT registered, I need to buy in my country to recuperate the VAT (21% here…), and the pricing is far from being consistent across countries… And while I like HP, the Fury is not precisely a beauty (esthetically)

Just checked, no built-to-order option, Fury 16’’ G11 only RTX 4000 available, 32GB, 14900HX, 2TB : 4,9K€, not bad, yet significantly more than the Lenovo and need to add RAM… I’m just not sure about the 400nits OLED display… vs the 800nits IPS 4K version (although non-tactile, but not sure I’ll ever need touch ??)

@@philippeannet True about the Ultra 9 and Fury, its not a beauty! (Same with the P16) Most people end up going for a gaming laptop if the P1 Gen 7 or Studio G11 doesn't fit the bill. For example the Legion Pro 7i Gen 9. i9-14900HX, RTX 4090 16GB, £2.3K + VAT, bargain specs.

I have this laptop with the RTX 5000 Ada and the 4k OLED. I wish that the speakers were better, that they had an Ethernet port, and Lenovo included a haptic touchpad like on the Thinkpad Z16 Gen 2. Another thing that the laptop needs is another M.2 Slot and ideally one PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot for future-proofing. I also can't get the HDR to work in the hybrid integrated graphics mode. This means that the battery life is really bad Overall, not a perfect laptop, but a solid laptop overall. .

Hello, very helpful information. Would you say that the P16 is noticably more silent than the P1 models?
@Dovecomputers
@Dovecomputers 6 ай бұрын
Yes. The P16 has a slight bigger chassis and is the workhorse mobile workstation range. The P1 is slimmer, but the fans are louder when heavily taxed.
