Interesting video, thanks. May I suggest though that after unscrewing the battery, at the point where you remove the little black plug with the 8 coloured wires coming out, you don't obscure vision with your hand. If you've never done it, it's quite tricky wriggling it loose from the metal clip, especially since you don't want to damage the wires in the process.

Best not to start using the pry-tool near port openings. You could buckle the port cover around the port. I would have started with on the left side away from port openings. If you are going to replace any part Lenovo have comparability info, always check there first.

Though Yoga530 has ample space for a full size 2280 M.2 as shown here 9:46, unfortunately the nut is only for 2242. Work around are a) use an extender, or b) hot glue it like I did.
@BrueComputing3 жыл бұрын
Not seen any adapters for fitting a 2280 into a 2242 mount? I wouldn't glue one in, will probably come loose at some point.
@DanBurgaud3 жыл бұрын
@@BrueComputing You can easily find these adapters from ebay or amazon. Hotglue are easy to apply, easy to remove and do not come loose as easily as one might think. Likewise SSDs rarely go above 60c and never above 80c; SSD will never be hot enough to melt hotglue. Of course I applied several beads of hotglue to strongly secure the 2280 SSD.
@BrueComputing3 жыл бұрын
@@DanBurgaud I can find adapters to fit a shorter SSD to a longer slot, but not the other way around. Got a link to one? Let me know how the hot glue lasts - my concern wouldn't be it melting, but it breaking free due to vibration and knocks over time.
@BrueComputing3 жыл бұрын
Got your message - those adapters were for fitting shorter drives into a longer slot, not the other way around?
@DanBurgaud3 жыл бұрын
These adapters can be used for Longer (2280, 2260) SSDs on short slots (like this Lenovo laptop), as well as Short SSDs (2230, 2242, 2260) on long slots. NOTE: The nut may not have a good solder. you need to solder it on both sides (or hot glue the nut).

So... SSD as originally installed is: SK Hynix BC501, SSD M.2 (M-Key) PCIe NVMe 2242, P/N: HFM256GDHTNG-8310A (P/N recognized in BIOS), correct? What means "2242" parameter?
@BrueComputing3 жыл бұрын
2242 means it is a smaller, 42mm long, M.2 form factor. Most M.2 drives are 2280, which is 80mm long.

what are the possible upgrades for the CPU and graphics card

None. The CPU in pretty much all modern laptops is soldered down and can only be replaced by replacing the mainboard with one with a higher spec CPU on it.

@@BrueComputing I bought a 1GB 2280 SSD that Crucial said was compatible. I didn't find out the 530-14ARR doesn't have a mounting screw hole for the 80 mm SSD until I opened it to fit it but I was able to fit it (with heatsink pad) and replace the metal screen OK - once the rear case is in place, the SSD is kept in place and it's worked perfectly for the last seven months. I'm going to be taking it apart again soon to replace the keyboard (and that's going to be a pain!) so will look again to see if there is any way I can help make sure the SSD is held down better.

@@zeno2712 Hey, I have the same problem. My Yoga 530-14ikb is like the 14ARR and doesn’t have a mouthing screw hole for the 80mm SSD. Can I just put the 2280 without the screw, put the SSD metal case WITH the screw and close? Will it be safe? Will it work? What you needed the heatsink pad for? I haven’t bought the SSD yet but I cannot find any 2242 here in Portugal. Thank you.
@zeno27123 жыл бұрын
@@joycedias8834 I've had no problems with the SSD at all without any mounting screw. I put a heatsink pad on top of the SSD then replaced the metal cover - this wasn't as secure as I would have liked (and maybe there's a way of making that more secure?) but once the bottom cover of the laptop is in place it all seems to be held firmly enough. The thermal pad helps conduct the heat that's generated by the SSD away from the SSD onto the metal can. If you don't have the pad, then the SSD will get hotter but I don't know how much hotter it will get - and it will also depend on how hard the SSD has to work. I think I had several different thicknesses of pad and I think I used a fairly thin one but you may have to choose what suits your SSD and can - if the pad is too thin, there will be an air gap between the SSD and the can (which you don't want) but if the pad is too thick, it might be more difficult to get the can on and to stay in place. It'd also be work checking if the bottom cover of the laptop is pushing down on the metal can - I can't remember now - but if there is a bit of a gap, then perhaps some foam pads in the right place would help the base cover hold the can in place, which would then hold the SSD on place - as long as you make sure you don't put too much stress on the can/SSD. Just re-reading your comment: does your can have a screw to secure it in place? Mine didn't but if there is one, then it sounds like the can will hold the SSD in place - just put a thermal pad of the right thickness on top of the SSD.
