Hi Just wanted to thank you for your tips on this couplet lens problem. I copied it and it’s worked brilliantly. The only thing I didn’t do, because I’m impatient, was use aluminium foil to separate the elements instead of the cement I’m supposed to use but it works a treat……. So far. Really pleased. 👍

I saw a video where instead of heat gun, you can steam the lens pair like a dumpling in a kitchen steam cooker...the balsm/epoxy loosened up into a goo and the lenses separated. You can take an exacto knife and use the edge to separate them if finger pushing is not enough.

Thank you so much for this awsome tip..... Instead of heat gun, I used an aifryer and.. voila.. manage to separate a very hazy compund lens from teh rear group of a SMC Pentax M 1:1.7 50mm.. Worked like a charm 180° C for 10min.. all the balsam melted and the lens came appart easily...

That's a great idea, and gives you more control. That could be the difference between a successful separation and a cracked lens.

Hi I don’t know if you will pick this up, however I have a conundrum for you a little like your Pentax with the little spring that you said, all you can see it do is stop the lever action from back winding and so you removed the spring and set it just a tad, so that you Pentax now works with a full lever action, well I have discovered a weird one, Pentax ME Super lever action works, blown out with air, isopropyl to dislodge and clean gunk, but the action works and fires fully when holding horizontally fires every time, turn it so base is facing upwards and two actions later it’s like you’ve put it in bulb mode, turn back and a couple more actions, and it’s back to firing again, turn again through 90% so top is facing upwards and a couple of actions and it’s like bulb mode again. Nothing seems loose but it’s almost like gravity in either of the positions of holding as normal or turning it to look at the bottom, is having an effect on something in action. Any ideas? In Advance Regards David New Forest U.K.

I would check that spring again, those things are so tiny and the action so delicate it could easily be missed. If that isnt it then gravity is playing tricks on you with a similar, probably related part. Good luck.

Thank you for your Video. I managed to seperate them by frying. I had no scale for the temperatur so just observe till end.The glue degenerates and becomes gas after time. Would recommend to open your kitchen windows smells like you have made fries 😄
