I am dealing with this issue, I think, and while I read a few comments on how to fix it, I still couldnt figure out how to get to the wire connected to the battery spring, without removing the range finder, but this video explains it so well Ill give it a try this week!

Thank you. somebody out there is making something like it. Or try your hand at making one. There are barrel makers out there that can make a barrel closer to the real thing than I used. Old Guard Manufacture makes barrels I think. They are based in Poland and can be found on Facebook.

A very dependable 1.35V source can be made. Either a tiny switched voltage supply, or a supply using a voltage regulator IC. I've heard of miniature switched supplys that are more or less an engineering task and outside my skill set. But using 3 hearing aid cells in a package in the shape of a handle, along with a LM-317 or LM-337 regulator IC is feasible for most anyone. That's what I'm doing. I'll post it at a later time. I don't like the brass spacer, the spacer with the schotky diodes for the 0.2V drop, or the Wein cells. They all crap out too soon and are the correct voltage for only part of their discharge curve. Best to have 1.35V when working, and nothing when discharged. This is perfect for small hearing aid batteries with some sort of ergonomic adapter.

Just purchased one, along with the flash, a rare find. I thought it was cool since Argus was sold off right after the Autronic series was made, making it the last of a long line of American Cameras that made 35 mm film so popular. You were struggling with the term guide numbers on smaller flash units, or watt-seconds for most studio flashes, measured in EV numbers. Most folks just rely on the supplied flashes built in to do all that business. I get that

That is a big maybe. IF it was well rolled on a spool, even split between the two might work. The spools are dark plastic to protect it. IF the light wasn't direct on the film. Maybe. It's possible but you will loose whatever film was exposed of course. I guess it depends on your willingness to gamble the $30ish bucks for development

Dude... Newly got 414, different, though with the special light sensor and the push button zoom... II over wound the drive and it stopped working... It ran spotty anyway and couldn't power the powered zoom. I could not get that clockwork out of the case for hours of work... and when I did finally come out, it messed up the shutter wheel... But, I forged ahead an lubed everything... making tthe zoom at least function smoothly again... And I'd seemed to get the movement working smoothly... The spring had sprung out of its take up spool, if that's how it was to be wound... But, outside the case it worked OK... Getting it back in the case completely fouled up the works ao now it does nothing when the lever is pressed... OH WELL... A nice display piece, anyway... I"d say I'd have a service pro fix it, but the screw holding the take-up rell sprung into a vortex somewhere... and I"m pretty good mechanically... Weird... Maybe i'll get a parts camera without all the bells and whistles... That should do it.. but someone who knows what he's doing.. cuz there most certaly are tricks to this... not striaghtforward at all... Thanks again... Great video... Very, very appreciated...!!
@tobroken1965Ай бұрын
Wow, you had a time of it. Just as a possibility, when the works go back into the case, placement of the shutter release is critical, off even a little and it won't work. Anyway, I'm not sure I would do another myself. The upside is they aren't hard to come by at a decent price. The powered zoom is the 414pd, like Abraham zapruder used, to me it's a useless feature and in hindsight I prefer the model 410 but they are tough to find. Keep at it, if you want another one and don't mind the shipping, buy one that comes with it's original case, this implies (imho) better storage and reduced wear on the photocell.

I'll tell you what, though... You're the only one on the entire Internet who has delved into this much needed subject... and is VERY appreciated...! ...and what we usually have with these is the extreme need of servicing... or lubricating... which yes, does require disassembly... I'd explored, briefly trying to get that lens screw out... but it is so tight that the danger was stripping the slot... which I nearly did with the zoom handle rod screw hole... which had a double micro set screw in the slotted zoom handle plug... (the plug being installed when the zoom handle is not on the unit...) Anyway... I saw that inner workings diagram in your video and wondered... Hmmm... Geez... do you have the Service Manual?? (something I cannot find... which would be instrumental in even basic lubrication/cleaning service...) Alrighty... if you have that manual, perhaps consider reproducing and selling, maybe? Something like that? Thanks... LIKED - SUBSCRIBED - SHARED...

The windup drive spring broke on mine.A little piece of metal came out of the camera! Are the springs easy to replace?
@tobroken19652 ай бұрын
@karlpage9028 easy isn't the word I would use but I have done harder things. The trick is to get several small parts together long enough to secure them. If anything broke, you will need a donor, take pics of how that one comes apart. It's been a while but I did it once or twice, be patient.
@karlpage90282 ай бұрын
@tobroken1965 Actually I'm not sure if the spring is broken or a piece just came out, long metal piece. The windup turn wheel will move, but it won't stay in place and keep the spring tight enough to take a photo. It just clicks and resets after a few turns

Just picked up a motormatic 35F. I have a question about the batteries/selenium cell. It has old batteries in the camera with some corrosion. Does the selenium cell operate off the batteries?
@tobroken19652 ай бұрын
No, the selenium cell is self supporting, the batteries are for the flash only. Be sure the selenium cell is reactive before committing film to it.
@fain_wynn2 ай бұрын
@ will it he super obvious that the selenium cell is reactive? I’m moving the camera around in different lighting and am not seeing any kind of movement at dials or needle
@tobroken19652 ай бұрын
@fainwynn9978 the needle should move as a light source is brought nearer. I still have three of these and none of the cells work, so I have used them in manual with a hand held light meter. The 35f, as far as I know does not have the manual option. If in fact the cell is bad, try a plain 35 (no f), those should have the manual wheel under the eye piece.

@tobroken19655 ай бұрын
No idea. If you have a dud roll of film that you could put in to test it, try that, they only really work with film in them. wind it up, and see if it works paying close attention to the shutter. If yours has the manual setting that is even better. The biggest problem of the models that I have had is sticky shutter blades.

You should have digitized the film first, and then used the free online program called stereophotomaker for perfect alignment and subsequent cropping. Then you don't have to use that parallelogram thing with your Zorki. Then you can also use the 30:1 ratio instead of the typical inter-pupillary distance. But thanks for the info on the Stereo Realist. I just picked one up today.

I have a sweet little Kodak Vigilant (could be wrong on the name), that takes beautiful photos, but the hassle of respooling keeps me from running it. I have, but sitting in the dark to spool enough rolls to make an outing worth while defeats the fun of shooting. My Bronica takes beautiful photos as well, with no hassle at all. Same goes for my Argaflex and Yashika D. Both have fab glass, only one takes 120.

It's been a while but most of those front lenses just unscrew, you will need a decent quality spanner that has reversible tips for pinholes and slotted rings.
