I combined a few pumpkins once. The landlord had carved some pumpkins and threw the insides in the manure spreader. Next year they were growing in my soybean field. This was before Roundup Ready and they survived. I saw pumpkins coming in the header and for a second wondered if maybe I needed a little more sleep.

I'd spend $2 an acre over $60 any day. That's like us we double crop soybeans after wheat in late June to mid July . The double crop beans only yield 15 to 35 bushels an acre compared to 40 to 90 bushels they could do an acre if we plant them in April or May. but every bushel over 8 is profit . Great work !

Hey Mike The cutter bar won’t flex “UP” where you’re worried about clipping the fingers off your reel. Unlike hydro flex, the cutter bar on a HD50F will only DROOP it will not flex upwards, the header flexes upwards with the wings and allows the cutter bar to droop down to maintain ground contact. This will prevent any conflict between cutter bar and reel fingers. It also maintains the relationship between cutter bar and reel

He is also seeing his skid shoe marks so easily because he has the header pitched back too far. It needs to be tilted forward more, even though he is concerned with rocks. That's why the center is flagging because its not tipped far enough forward.
@SuperEye2eye
@SuperEye2eye 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. In crappy lentils need max tilt On the header. Not flat but tilted way forward. The sickle guards become the crop lifters. But who knows with that header if that’s possible. Seems like the float is set far too heavy for lentils

I’ve personally had my fill of lentils for awhile. .32 reds are a joke, 55 last yr and crop really isn’t a standout this yr. Buyers keep texting looking for small greens at .42, told them call when they are at .63, which is what they were last yr. I want the same price… fert is the same so why should we get .25 lb less?? These crooks should be locked up. I get your point of getting something back, but would be a hard pill to swallow for me to be out there. If one thought this crop was at record levels to grow … wait till next spring.

There are many questions in the comments regarding farming revenue. I’ll explain that farming isn’t much of a profitable business, debt ratio is high. Although, insurance helps with bad yield, taxes are lower or none and much money is spent on machinery maintenance or for new purchases. That’s what I have heard.

I understand what you have to do , and I've been down that road before. My heart goes out to you.

Do you run a rock roller where you run the headers on the ground in shot crops like these lentils? We do it on a lot of our acres. It makes a noticeable difference hear in eastern ND for cutting soybeans and not picking up rocks.

Did you check what was under M in that crop menu? you might be able to harvest a crop of money? if you have no crop/product to sell for 2 years how does a company stay afloat?

An efficient farmer can make it if every 3rd or 4th year is a bumper crop. Most of them understand the money side very well. The rest are former farmers!
