Thank you so much for doing this one, thanks to the lovely person who requested it. I used to love this so much as a kid and I haven't heard it in decades, I think I love it more now. I hope you get to hear 'Orchard Road' too, it was from the '80', so, so beautiful. ✌❤

Just been reading a new interview with Leo about his musical life and I was stunned to read about his career and the people he worked with. As kids in Scotland we watched his tv show. The man is astounding. If you need a laugh look up 'Leo Sayer families at war treadmill'. It is genuinely staggeringly funny. Top Man!!!

Didn't know this was a Leo Sayer song until decades later. I have the Three Dog Night version on 45 rpm single. Hoping you see this (1 month late to the party 🥳🎉) but you absolutely have to hear; WHEN I NEED YOU 💕 and YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE DANCING!! OHH and also the THREE DOG NIGHT version! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼

My pals abused me mercilessly when I was 11 for liking Leo Sayer. "When I Need You", and "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" are good songs, but "Long Tall Glasses" is my favorite.

When being a performer gets to be overwhelming and stressful. And quitting the entertainment industry gets to be very hard to do. When commitments and appearances are contractually obligated. The agents and promoters couldn't care less about the entertainer health or wellbeing. As long as he or she provides monetary rewards. It's all about the money. Leo Sayer's biggest number one hit was "When I Need You" (1976). Luv you guys. Florida USA.

Leo’s debut single and a big hit in 73, the only one he performed in the clown get up.

Leo had several pop hits on the radio back in the day, many of which are very peppy and light hearted fun, but this particular BBC performance of several of his hits dressed in Pagliacci style clown makeup raised his music to the level of performance art. The poignancy of his lyrics was truly highlighted in that setting and some were quite moving. This became known as The Clown Concert. I think he did 8 songs in this set. The Dancer and Giving It All Away are extraordinary. Thanks for sharing this one!

Leo's song was a hit in the UK in 1973. Three Dog Night covered the song in 1974 and was a a big hit in the USA in 1974

As someone else has mentioned this comes from a tv performance and the whole set is worth watching. He had the kind of voice that could sing anything, This is from his early singer/songwriter period before he started having pop and disco hits. He was writing songs for Roger Daltrey's solo album around this time.

Leo Sayer is an English-Australian singer-songwriter musician whose singing career has spanned four decades. He had quite a few hits in the 70's such as “You Make Me Feel Like Dancing”, "When I Need You", "More Than I Can Say", "Raining In My Heart", "Orchard Road" etc.

From what I understand, Leo was very introverted and the clown makeup made it easier to perform in front of people.

This was his debut Single. It shot up the Charts, and hit Number Two. I remember buying it - it was so popular though, I had to wait for my copy, as many Record Shops were constantly sold out as it was around Christmas time I remember when Record Sales are always pretty high. For some time after. everyone was curious to know what he really looked like, as they’d never seen him out of costume, and there was some debate as to whether he was going to keep the same image of the Pierrot throughout his career - but I think the man who discovered him (60s heartthrob Adam Faith) decided against it maybe - I don’t know. His debit Album this was taken from called 'Silver Bird' was the first in a string of hit Albums and Singles that followed for years - well into the 1980s, though many had been just a little disappointed with his debut Album, as they had expected similar Songs and Style to this one - but they were all very different - not another Single track like this on it - but I didn’t mind. Great Review - and glad you liked the Song. (I forgot to mention) this version is somewhat different than was released as the Single.

Big mistake doing the live version, but this ain't bad if you know the studio first
@jumpjet7772 ай бұрын
Yeah I tend to agree, I much prefer the studio mix/official video first, then go live. Of course there are a few exceptions. I remember this song as a teenager, and the video/studio mix really made me go out and buy it. He was sooooo different to other artists of the time, not that he kept that persona going for very long. 👍
