Crazy that Cheese talks about how awesome it is that he gets to rock up to training late, leave when it gets a bit hot. Has that attitude and is still probably wondering why Roosters are showing him the door.

Listening to what he said, it's not him being lazy, but rather a privilege of being in the injury/rehab group.

Driving unlicensed on a cocktail of drugs and could've killed 3 people. The "public" are annoyed because we'd probably get jail time if we did that. Oh boo hoo he has to deal with the broncos and the NRL as well. So he should basically get off scott free? $850 dollar fine and a 6-8 week suspension is pathetic when we get players getting 8 for name calling and 4 YEARS for enhancing drugs and Xerri was 19 so i dont wanna hear none of this "oh Mams just a kid" take
@jaycee57154 минут бұрын
Mams penalty is an absolute insult to the general public. The fact that he got off so lightly only increases the public's perception that league players are entitled and untouchable. The NRL, the Broncos and the Qld judicial system and police have missed an opportunity to set an example. If this happens again and it will they better hope someone is not killed or they will have blood on their hands

Have you seen some of the crimes and sentences that have been handed down recently particularly in Queensland? People are getting trips to McDonald’s for violent home invasions and such, not excusing his actions but no one’s getting jail time for this as a first offence

General public has to deal with their employers also. If you say worked in the logistics industry you can’t drive you can’t work. Also lots of industries you can’t have drugs in your system also. No difference really as opposed to being a footballer.

When the magistrate said someone "could have been injured", not include the four year old girl who now lives with the consequences from a paediatric fractured hip. She doesn't count? No ballet, no high jumps, long jumps at school sports, growth disturbance, limb length discrepancies. And the energy transfer from the size of Mam's vehicle when he left his lane and crashed head on, isn't immediately diagnosed in passengers. This has a long way to run and the NRL need to be very careful.

Cheese mentioned he didn't understand why public scrutiny would tie into a punishment handed down. This is called extenuating circumstances. Ezra voluntarily checked himself into a rehab facility, he's suspended indefinitely from his current employment, he's being publicly scrutinised as well as most likely other extenuating circumstances that we are not aware of. These are all mitigating factors that are considered when a punishment is handed down. If you speak to any criminal defence lawyer they will say that the punishment handed down is fair, some may even argue considering the variables (age of Ezra, lack of criminal history and the 2 minor charges he was facing) a 3 month suspension would also have been just. Punishments handed down in a magistrates court are also dependent on the magistrate that's sitting the hearing. Some magistrates deal harsher penalties than others. The magistrate in Ezra's hearing is considered a lenient magistrate, therefore in my opinion if the defendant wasn't Ezra Mam an nrl player and instead a regular 21 year old, most likely, based on the mitigating factors a 3 month suspension would've been handed. However, to prevent public outrage a slightly harsher punishment was given. I'm also seeing a lot of people not understanding the difference between a dui and driving with a relevant drug present. The charge driving with a relevant drug present is a much lower charge than a dui (Google: Drugs and driving | Transport and motoring - to see what the relevant drugs are). Ezra was not under the influence, if he was, the police at the scene would have deemed that he was and would've been charged accordingly. At the scene of every crash an alcohol and drug test is mandatory, Ezra just happened to have traces of a relevant drug in his system, however he was NOT under the influence. In regards to the injury to the little girl. Ezra was not charged with this because either the police did not have 100% concrete evidence that Ezra was at complete fault (he was not under the influence of drugs) and also the video doesn't actually show the impact itself. Or, it was settled in litigation leading to the charge being dropped. We don't actually know. However, the fact is that he was not charged with the injury. This ties back into extenuating circumstances because there are dozens of articles dragging Ezra's name through the mud suggesting that he got let off lightly for injuring a family when in fact this should have nothing to do with the news articles as it was not a charge he was facing.
