People are sad abt Tony Ferguson downfall, but we still technically have another Tony Ferguson. Max Holloway, 32, got like 5+ fights left, whos in his fucking and was the fucking UNDERDOG, spectacularly KILLED scariest LW heavy hitter Justin Gaethje, giving em his taste of medicine, whom destroyed Tony Ferguson. Max Holloway takes fucking beatings, adds relentless volume like Tony Ferguson, and is in a way looking similar to Tony Ferguson that random people thought he was Ferguson. Although not inspired ofc, and doesn’t really have that El Cucuy mentality, he’s not cautious and is ready to bleed. I can’t rlly see Max Holloway having a sad downfall like El Cucuy, in fact I think he’ll keep fighting past 35 and will never be KO/subbed.

Tony is/was just a nasty, NASTY lightweight, consistently dominating top tier opposition, known for taking hard shots, being rocked and always finding a way to recover and win. That's what makes Tony so special, he finds a way, whether it's full domination or he's hurt and trying to beat the clock, it's fascinating to watch his mind go to work in the cage.
@dinonutz6 ай бұрын
Even if a fighter can match his fighting style, they’ll never be able to capture what made Tony special The only man even close is Jiri Prochazka, but they’re both different kinds of weird

Tony Ferguson is Top 3 Lightweights of all time and what he has given to combat sports is truly admirable because I think he, Manny Pacquiao, Roy Jones Jr & more examples are classic cases of being the essence of Bruce Lee's quote "Use what is useful, discard what's not & making it uniquely your own". He could get away with what he could not just because of his athleticism but because he thought so outside of the box. No coach would teach you to fight like him but everybody tries to emulate it secretly. It worked until it didn't but when it did, it made memories that will last forever. I hope Tony Ferguson has a much better second half of his life and retires soon.

Throughout highschool my only contact to the UFC was McGregor, little bit of Rousay and of course Joe Rogan. I watched the odd fight here and there and always appreciated the skill, atheleticism and toughness that these fighters put on display but it never got me cought up into tbe sport to a point that went beyond illegally watching some main events while skipping through the clinches and ground time. Then, quite some time after highschool had finished, I somehow watched Tony Ferguson vs Anthony Pettis, a fight that had apparently happened on the same night that Conor got his soul taken by Khabib, in the same weightclass, right before the main event. I felt cheated, the hype man that dissapointed me by losing his biggest fight after an insane marketing tour had taken the opportunity of the man he who truly was what Conor was pretending to be, Tony's beating on Pettis was more adrenaline than my body could handle and the anticlimactic end of the fight between rounds showed me that both Tony and Khabib were mismatched on that card. Khabib could have fought a creative striker, an animal on the feet that becomes even more dangerous when you put him on his back or make him bleed and Tony could have faced an opponent that could have kept his pace with equal cardio, take his pressure and punishment for 5 rounds and might not end up bloodied and cut for daring to take Tony down. Two warriors made for each other, in the best shape of their life, prevented from fighting each other while fighting minutes from each other because a drunk, coked up irish hypeman had enchanted the world, me included. When I watched that event on an illegal stream, I didn't even see Tony fight. Skipped right past his fight to get see an idol get dismantled and turned off the sport for years. But Tony's movement in the cage, the ability to recover, the demon he summons in second rounds, his creativity and grit brought me right back into the sport deeper than I'd ever imagined. I buy pretty much every UFC ppv now, I have Tony to thank for that. Conor the type of guy to 'make you look' Tony the type of guy to make me love an entire sport and show me the great things in this sport I missed by focusing on the wrong things. Thank you Tony, even your losing streak will go down in history as one of the most insane showings of determination and an embodiement of the kind of fighters that truly elevate this sport. Fighters that will fight... to the death.
