What especially delights me about this film is how it demonstrates in clear, child-friendly language how Thomas toys are actually built. @Lightninging63 Yes the knock- offs are getting very good. Considering for $20 you only get one single Thomas versus a whole set really said to me many would dive in and buy the knock-off. Small complete Real Thomas sets retail here for around $50, so compared to the faker the actual price difference is $30. Thats enough to buy another faker and still have $10 change!

@MITCHELLtheC17 I have noticed the quality of the knock off Thomas stuff is getting very good, this was purchased in a novelty shop at Cabramatta Sydney, the owner was a Thai woman, she had a number of different sets for sale and they were dirt cheap.

@capmodesty That's a good question, considering the high quality the real toy companies need to keep there seems to be very little protection from the fake copy products. I know there are some countries where you will find it hard to find a real Thomas, all you will see for sale is the rip off items.

I do love a good consumer affairs video but to many they are a dry subject. I too am surprised of the accuracy of this copy product, it was $20 for the whole train set ( I did buy a few at the time), same price as one real Thomas.

@PokelordEX Hi Loco, this reminds me when I was a kid ( a long time ago) there was a Dinky Thunderbird 2 which was BLUE, not green. But this was not a knock off it was a strange variant. Maybe Dinky ran out of green and I never worked out why Thunderbird 2 was BLUE there for a while. I tend to buy any knock off's I see now purely as curious collectables against the real Thomas stuff I have.

Interesting video. I'd have to say though, I have an observation or two. After watching the tug of war and head on battles, the faker is using a slip clutch (the clicking/popping noise) so it is not the motor or gearbox letting it down. My real thoughts actually is that in this case the faker is a little safer if you consider a kid doing their usual silly things and say getting hair tangled in the wheels. The faker will click away, the real will keep on churning, and really pulling out hair!

The drop test is actually incorrect. The knock off Thomas is molded off of a Tomy Thomas, which came apart by pinching the side tanks, while the real Thomas is a Trackmaster Thomas, which after Fisherprice made the line, had to be unscrewed to access the battery compartment.
