Praying Mantis are deadly predator spider killers. Redback Spiders are ruthless insect killers that will kill their own to survive. Lets put a Giant Mantis with the deadly female Redback spider and see which critter has the killer moves to win a bug battle. Praying Mantis are ambush predators that have excellent eyesight camouflage and stealthy moves. Their use a rapid strike to grasp the prey with their spiked raptorial forelegs. The Redback spider has a different set of killer skills, it uses a very sticky web to trap other spiders and insects and has the ability to kill small snakes, lizards and skinks. Whats most scary about the Redback spider is it's constant killing of other Redback spiders. This sets these spiders up as some of the nastiest deadly spiders around. Video posted as educational, documentary, and scientific and forms part of my Redback Spider study series of videos.

The Redback spider (Latrodectus hasseltii) is a species of venomous spider indigenous to Australia. It is a member of the cosmopolitan genus Latrodectus, the widow spiders. The adult female is easily recognised by her spherical black body with a prominent red stripe on the upper side of her abdomen and an hourglass-shaped red/orange streak on the underside. Females have a body length of about 10 millimetres (0.4 in), while the male is much smaller, being only 3-4 mm (0.12-0.16 in) long. Mainly nocturnal, the female Redback lives in an untidy web in a warm sheltered location, commonly near or inside human residences. It preys on insects, spiders and small vertebrates that become ensnared in its web. It kills its prey by injecting a complex venom through its two fangs when it bites, before wrapping them in silk and sucking out the liquefied insides. Male spiders and spiderlings often live on the periphery of the female spiders' web and steal leftovers. Other species of spider and parasitoid wasps prey on this species. The Redback is one of few arachnids which usually display sexual cannibalism while mating. The redback is one of the few spider species that can be seriously harmful to humans, and its preferred habitat has led it to being responsible for the large majority of serious spider bites in Australia.
Mantises are an order (Mantodea) of insects that contains over 2,400 species in about 430 genera in 15 families. The largest family is the Mantidae ("mantids"). Mantises are distributed worldwide in temperate and tropical habitats. They have triangular heads with bulging eyes supported on flexible necks. Their elongated bodies may or may not have wings, but all Mantodea have forelegs that are greatly enlarged and adapted for catching and gripping prey; their upright posture, while remaining stationary with forearms folded, has led to the common name praying mantis. The closest relatives of mantises are the termites and cockroaches (Blattodea), which are all within the superorder Dictyoptera. Mantises are mostly ambush predators, but a few ground-dwelling species are found actively pursuing their prey. They normally live for about a year. In cooler climates, the adults lay eggs in autumn then die. The eggs are protected by their hard capsules and hatch in the spring. Females sometimes practice sexual cannibalism, eating their mates after copulation.

Please enjoy this complex Spider Vs Mantis bug battle that lasted 3 days. The fight is split into three 30 min videos that have been edited down from over 10 hours of raw fight footage. I’m sorry I can’t make these the 3 min trending videos Google is looking for so I expected to be shafted by the all-controlling and destructive algorithm. Anyway other scam producers will steal parts of these videos and make viral content for themselves. Welcome to KZbin.

i agree with ..i think whatever damage happened to the mantis was right at that moment , but i do not think that your theory that the spider bit in that tiny leg extension is correct ... my theory is that spider was observing the mantis' movement and recognized the pattern of it cleaning its legs with its mouth frequently, and as it got the opportunity when the leg it self came close to its mouth .it just secreted the venom on its leg and the mantis consumed it , itself while cleaning ..hence it took a quite a bit of time for the venom to take effect

It would be a true shame to lose such an authentic channel on KZbin. I know it is super tough to edit 6 hrs into 30 min and for that 👏 my applause. Don't let KZbin's frustration make you lose the community you have built. These videos are unique and authentic. I can absolutely see this on an authentic television series and that's what we here want to see. Something we can come back to and simply binge. Great cliffhanger btw.

I remember when I was in high school biology class there were a lot of bugs in jars that kids brought in. Someone got curious and put a spider, a mantis and a fly together in a jar and left them overnight. Next morning, the spider and mantis had killed each other and the fly was still buzzing around in the jar.

Often, a mantis will hang and shiver because natural instinct tells it that when there's a large animal nearby or potential predator, to make itself look like a leaf in the breeze. Don't count shivering as an effect of the venom.
@terrariaHERO1
@terrariaHERO1 6 жыл бұрын
red back spiders have neurotoxic venom, or neurotic venom. which attacks the nervous system of the prey, or enemy threatening it... therefore, having shivers as a venom effect is very possible as the nerves in the mantises body would be dying and deteriorating.,

Sometimes a mantis will hiss if it feels threatened. Some kinds accompany this with a threat display, and others don't, as they hope to make predators confused and nervous (fighting is a mantis' absolute last resort). They usually hiss by taking deep breaths and exhaling really hard and fast.

A praying mantis got into my kitchen a few months ago and my two cats were very interested in it. There are probably few things worse for a small creature than having a cat's attention. They batted it around quite a bit, but the mantis held tough. In admiration of its fortitude, I intervened and put it out in the garden where it is most welcome!

The spider is actually playing it smart. The closer an insect is to a mantis, the harder it is for the mantis to strike at it. It needs to be able to stretch out and strike. Up close it isn't able to get the same force behind its punch. If the spider was down by the mantis's rear end, it would give the mantis an advantage in striking distance

A lot of mantises need to settle into a zone where they think are not being observed by any other Predator. Personally I reckon it a no brainer to give the mantis some greenery, some peace and lack of outside movement and then after a day or so, drop in the spider. Cheers for the video anyway

Agree . Surely , the Mantis would be much more aggressive if it was hungry . This scene in no way reflects what would happen in a real encounter . My guess is , if the mantis is hungry he eats . If not , there is no long encounter . Mantis may make contact but then move on . In the long run , there is little to gain by picking fights with something you probably won't eat that can just as easily kill you . Lone predators must avoid serious injury or they will starve to death . The Mantis never made a serious attack . The spider was close enough to at least try to bite a leg for some time but showed no desire to. The spider's plan was to play dead , but then Mantis shoved his toe in spiders mouth . Spider saw the threat . Mantis never felt in danger . That was a big difference.

As stated in the comments that's a male mantis.. you can tell because he is very skinny and the wings are past the abdomen. Those spasms out the rear end could most likely just be his guy parts trying to do some work ;). As far as the mantis surviving... I believe that the venom was not potent enough to kill the mantis, and only stunned it.

Something is wrong with that Mantis. Even when the spider moves the Mantis seems not to notice. I think that the Petroleum jelly was effecting the Mantis somehow.

No, mantises can not see well AT ALL and they rely on motion. Even if they rely on motion, they r still pretty bad at using its senses. Lol I have 10 pet mantises so trust me

Turtle Music Studios - are you sure? That mantis looks like its all messed up. Ive never seen a mantis behave that disoriented before and i use to catch the big green ones all the time when i was a kid in the field in front of my dads house.

@@irisliang2833 Wrong. I have watched mantises catch minnows and honey bees. They watched for movement first, then moved in slowly, stalking their prey until they were within 6 inches. The prey wasn't moving. The mantis held position for a few seconds. You would think they are not in range, then the mantis was just a blur and caught the prey in an instant. When the spider moved, the mantis should have seen it. I'm wondering how much petroleum jelly was smeared on its eyes. That would have impaired its vision. I think that explains what we saw.

I had a pet black widow she lived for 6 years. I was lucky enough to observe her take down extremely large prey including giant grasshoppers. I was amazed to see that she actually had the ability to spit venom.. I think when the praying mantis and the spider got into the quarrel, it may have spit some Venom at its face..

I really loved this series! One thing i wanted to mention that might help the dynamics in the duo, is the ground. You mention you you want to keep thebattle between them as natural as possible, which I admire tenfold! I noticed both critters have problems traveling around the plastic and the glass. My suggestion is, maybe if their was dirt or rock flooring maybe the mantis would have a better stance for attack. Much like the case with the centipede. I hope the internet world starts behaving better for you!

I know I'm not the only one being given the shaft from the site changes here. Maybe I'm lucky still compared to other channels that have TOTALLY collapsed. Mind you I can't swing my channels fate around and I have been trying every trick in the book. This downfall feels totally engineered by robots at the big G.

leokimvideo a lot of people are trying different content to try and shift the tide, the others are just putting less effort into their content. It's having a knock-on effect I think, and only the massive channels seem to be unaffected. Let's hope things go back to normal soon, before KZbin completely implodes

What a great video! What a fantastic cliff hanger, I thought the mantis was done for, but you set up the trailer for the second battle beautifully, and now Im not so sure if the mantis is done for. The mantis throughout the time lapse appeared to be doing something with its rear end. Im no expert on insects by any means but i think the Praying Mantis has a way of expelling the venom of the redback spider from it, which is why it looked like it was dying, it was just fighting the venom out of its body. By thats just my guess and like I said Im no expert, but Im so excited for the next video. Keep up the great work Leo!

it's going to be a forever stand still! I've already done this experiment with several of my praying mantis and black widow spiders that I randomly pick up and they both respect each other somehow knowing that each of them is a killer on their own Way. I've seen one other person do the same thing with the same tube and they don't go near each other they're both afraid of each other even if you shake them in the tank together and put them on top of each other they fight their way away from each other.
