The retro/revival sound is now becoming the "newest latest" thing, & you are now starting to hear it in commercials & on TV shows. Once it becomes mainstream, they (promoters, labels, the industry) will milk it for all its worth & suck the life out of it....

Yes. I think Ry and his guys were good enough to retain the "swinging" side of the melody as originally set by Sam Cooke, which is not the case here. It's square and brutal. But it's ok, he is young and learning love ;). I guess it takes years to manage the "lullaby" side of such a masterpiece.

This is the Magnolia Motor Lounge In Fort Worth Texas, where Leon was “first discovered”...the video is amateur & stage & venue is small, it’s a cool bar though, it looks like an old gasoline station. It looks like Phillip Creamer on rhythm guitar & Daniel Creamer on keyboard...can’t make out the other Gentlemen

Love you Leon, & I love what you're doing on the retro revival tip....But nobody, & I do mean NOBODY, can touch Sam Cooke. It's actually unfair to even compare any new artists to legends like Sam Cooke or Marvin or Otis or David Ruffin, 4 of the greatest singers ever in life -- but I totally get it, cuz he is like a throwback to those icons & is channeling greatness & excellence. Absolute classic song & decent cover though.

Yes you're exactly right. The cover is not on par with Cookes original though it's decent enough. People should not be so quick as to say he's a modern day Sam Cooke either because he really isn't and isn't trying to be. I don't think that the comparison is respectful to both artists in the end.

Leon has a brilliant voice badly let down sound is all over the place. If I was in audience and sounded like this I would talk to one of band members I've done it before at a gig it's not band members fault that's why have a sound engineer who should have been aware of it.

dude regardless of whether or not it was on the set list, any guitar player worth his salt should be able to catch on quick. two sections, 4 chords in total throughout the entire song. such a traditional chord change too, like if you know any soul or doo wop from that era, you know that change. F, Dm, Bb, C. I agree, major toolage.
