After my son was born, I remember holding him in my arms in a chair next to my wife's hospital bed. She reached across and gave me an earplug from her phone, and played this song to me for the first time. As I listened to it, I looked at this perfect child and felt an overwhelming sense of connection. I looked back at my wife with tears in my eyes, and she just smiled back at me. I will remember that moment as long as I live.

I too lost my son many years ago!😩💔 There are no words to describe the gut wrenching agony a family goes through at the loss of a child. My faith and hope is in The Lord Jesus now,to walk the narrow road,the long road of obedience to GOD that when this life is over,I and my family will be reunited with our son in whatever form and death will no longer have any power over GODs children. My prayers and thoughts to you and your family🙏🏼💖 GOD bless.

Ten years ago I wanted to be taken to the river. You see.....I lost a brother to police brutality. He was about to graduate from college with a biology degree in two months, but he was taken from me during a stop light infraction. They beat and tasered him to death. When they did an autopsy on his body, they said it looked like he had been in a big accident. This song brought me to that place of when I begged God to take his place. Take ME to the river.... I'll go. But then God allowed me to meet my wife, who helped me to live. I talked with God and found out He still had a purpose and a plan for my life...so I live today walking pass the river, watching the ship go by, remembering Pierre. Gone but not forgotten. Rest in peace baby brother. See you on the other side of the river.

Made my dad listen to this song a few years back because it really got through my soul in a way that I never thought anything ever could. My dad's music has always been important to me because it was the only bridge we really have to express our emotions, we're both introverts and talking wasn't really our thing. He would play his music to me growing up, but this was that one song, the song that I shared with him instead of him sharing his stuff with me. It was such a special moment. Everytime it would play in the car we would just be silent to listen to the whole thing and it felt like a telepathic connection of what we were feeling. He passed a few months ago and I still think of him as I listen to this song over and over again. I miss him dearly.

Yesterday was the 45th anniversary of my brother drowning. We were a year and six days apart. Yesterday morning was Sunday. unaware it was June 27th, I was sitting in the shade praising God as that is how I attend church. Listening to a song about Gods love this song popped in my mix. I had never heard it. I have had God show me many times that my brother called out to him in his struggle in the water and that we would someday be reunited. I have heard his voice and his death is what led me to salvation through Jesus Christ. I thought as the song played, "This song reminds me of the attitude my brother had the night before he drowned." He had been in trouble with the law quite a bit the last year of his life. It was only later I realized it was the very day same day 45 years earlier that he had gone to the river and learn to "know." Thanks Leon for letting God use your talent to speak to a little brother that also came to "know". Gods love is not easily understood by us, but ALL things work to the good of those that love him!

And this is why there are more great musical artists now then ever before in control of their art. The internet brings to light the seemingly infinite number of ridiculously amazing indie artists who may not get airplay, but will sell out when they come to your town to perform. Just because you don't hear it on the radio, doesn't mean that it isn't there to be found. Keep on keepin' on Leon Bridges and all those like you.

So this song hits much different now, I sent it to my what was soon to be mother in law. She absolutely loved it!! She played it over and over like I did when I first heard it. She passed away just before Christmas, and not long after that my fiance left me, so the lil boy I played step dad to for almost 7 years and now it's all gone. Praying for God's wisdom and guidance I guess. I don't even feel like this is life, how can this be real. I was once the happiest man alive, but now find myself wishing I wasn't here anymore. I know God HAS TO HAVE A REASON FOR ALL THIS. Just not sure I'll ever get it😔

I keep coming back to this song for a few reasons. 1. It's dope! 2. It's literally the word of God.

Been traveling these wide roads for so long My heart’s been far from you Ten-thousand miles gone Oh, I wanna come near and give ya Every part of me But there's blood on my hands And my lips aren’t clean In my darkness I remember Momma’s words reoccur to me "Surrender to the good Lord And he’ll wipe your slate clean" Take me to your river I wanna go Oh, go on Take me to your river I wanna know Tip me in your smooth waters I go in As a man with many crimes Come up for air As my sins flow down the Jordan Oh, I wanna come near and give ya Every part of me But there's blood on my hands And my lips aren’t clean Take me to your river I wanna go Go on, Take me to your river I wanna know I wanna go, wanna go, wanna go I wanna know, wanna know, wanna know Wanna go, wanna go, wanna go Wanna know, wanna know, wanna know Wanna go, wanna go, wanna go Wanna know, wanna know, wanna know Take me to your river I wanna go Lord, please let me know Take me to your river I wanna know

The worst most generic cliche ridden lyrics, it's embarrassing
@MrNines-lh1fg5 жыл бұрын
@Sailorperson listen there's something at stake here. Good artists never use cliches. These words say nothing. They are so generic that they have no meaning and that means the artist doesn't have to take responsibility. The more personal and specific you get the more responsibility you have to take. Specificity, specificity, specificity....not complexity. If you can't be specific , if you can't share the fresh images from your own life shut the fuck up so we don't have to wade through this sludge to find the good shit. Time is too short

My husband passed away at 44 yrs old after 60 days of fighting for his life in the hospital… I held his hand and prayed at the moment he passed and played this song … then took a 2hr train ride home to tell our daughter that daddy wasn’t coming home… nothing seems real anymore 💔 I can’t believe I have to do the rest of this life without him … 😖

When you sit back and listen to this song, you may come to the realization that soul music originated in gospel. The suffering of slaves also who were true believers , their music is heard in the "Spirituals". But most importantly as Jesus says " what doth it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul" but, you say, "soul is a type of music" it comes from the soul of a person ... and we now know many in the world have sold their souls for fame and fortune or many have lost their souls from gain of this world. So when hearing it ,there are some who still have their soul intact.

This was my ex’s and I’s song. We danced to this song in a cheap hotel room, tipsy, after a friends wedding. It was our song for over 3 years. Not only were we each other’s “River” we also met at church and this song is deep in the biblical sense.
