When we went to Carborro NC in 2011, Mr. Redbone "signed off" with this song..What a great way to say good bye! We were very fortunate to be sent back to his dressing room to visit with him and his fantastic accompanist Paul Asaro for a few moments..My wife thought she had died and gone to heaven, as he is her all time favorite singer/entertainer..A high time e in my life, also. Will never forget that evening and how humble and "common' they were.

Leon Redbone (born Dickran Gobalian;[2][3] August 26, 1949 - May 30, 2019) was a singer-songwriter and musician specializing in jazz, blues, and Tin Pan Alley classics. Recognized by his hat (often a Panama hat), dark sunglasses, and black tie, Redbone was born in Cyprus of Armenian ancestry and first appeared on stage in Toronto, Canada, in the early 1970s. He also appeared on film and television in acting and voice-over roles.

Verse: 1 Soon we'll come to the end of life's journey, and perhaps we'll never meet anymore, till we gather in heaven's bright city, far away on that beautiful shore. Chorus: If we never meet again this side of heaven, as we struggle through this world and its strife, there's another meeting place somewhere in heaven, by the side of the river of life, where the charming roses bloom forever, and where separations come no more, if we never meet again this side of heaven, I will meet you on that beautiful shore. Verse: 2 Oh so often we're parted with sorrow, benedictions often quicken our pain, but we never shall sorrow in heaven, God be with you till we meet again. Verse: 3 Oh they say we shall meet by the river, where no storm clouds ever darken the sky, and they say we'll be happy in heaven, in the wonderful sweet by and by. Top

Saw Leon Redbone perform twice, both times in a bar/concert venue called Raspberry's in Angels Camp, Calaveras County, California. The first time he played guitar and had a tuba player with him; the second time, he also had a clarinet player. Shows I will always remember.

Quite incredibly, his old friend from Toronto and brother rag time picker, Mose Scarlett, died on the same day. They , the music press , are now joking that they must have planned it that way.
