I love the language of music explication. Much of it is over my head, but I love to listen to it nonetheless.

The timpani toward the end, utterly crazy and wonderful.

My favorite Beethoven Symphony is the next one I'm going to listen to. My Radiology Professor, Lindsay Rowe, always presented Paget's Disease and discussing Beethoven. Abnormal bone growth after adulthood, in Luigi's case the ear canals laid down new bone, crushing the auditory nerves. I bet he complained that his hat had become smaller. And he probably suffered from joint pains.

Taken word for word as a transcript, that would be an outstanding and tightly written piece of writing. I think Bernstein says all this off the top of his head.

No. You can see him glance to the right ever so often. Presumably there's the text there.

My favorite Beethoven symphony. Here the guy invented techno and the Pixies both.

Sorry guys, there is no canonical writing in the 2nd movement. You are probably referring to the work 'Ta ta ta, lieber Mälzel', which may or may not have been composed by Beethoven, which uses that theme in a vocal canon.

That is a handsome room, with lovely furniture (and stove). Can someone tell me where it is? Thanks.

I genial work, yes, if you take the word as an adjective of "genius", the way it is used in French and other languages. (At least he does not call Beethoven "romantic") By the way, that tune of the second movement is a canon...
@thlee32 жыл бұрын
anyone know what those mini sheet music books are called !?
@Dufuxing10 жыл бұрын
Bernstein might or might not have known if THAT particular theme is a canon, if he did, he certainly (and rightfully) did not find it worth mentioning in his lecture. That's why I gave it as an interesting bit of trivia.

Haven't seen this much argument about canon since Disney bought Star Wars.

oddly I tend to prefer the even numbered symphonies.

Did Beethoven write FFF in the first movement because he was going deaf?

No.

Why is the tune in the second movement being memorable a bad thing?

Andy Dufresne I always thought I’d was intended to be the extreme opposite of the screaming heavy metal around it - for dynamics

I find it very difficult to find anything worthwhile in the 8th symphony.

There is a passage in the 3rd movement that is possibly the most beautiful moment in all music. I've been listening to Beethoven for about 25-30 years and it never gets old. I hold the 8th symphony in extremely high regard.
@citizent69994 жыл бұрын
@@glennmoonpatrol8676 Beethoven regarded the 8th as one of his finest works. In the premiere concert with 7 and 8 he was surprised that the 7th got more attention.

The 8th is such a good work but it's the 2nd Symphony that gets my 1st prize - Gardiner conducting of course.

@@citizent6999 Yesss Second Symphony is also my favorite its not really a popular opinion. the first movement is my favorite and it think its extremely underrated
