This is one of the greatest works of British comedy of all time. Beautifully, tenderly observed, it's just incredible. I grew up in a northern town not far from Bolton and even now people are very much like this. Leonard should be a morose and tragic character, but his lightness and small joys outshine his circumstances. Peter Kay's finest work.

Still my favourite thing Peter Kay ever did. Probably because after listening to the commentary on 'That Peter Kay thing' where he went to the funeral of the real Leonard and talks about him - you can't help being touched by this tribute. I need to read the PK bio that people discuss here to learn more. It takes great talent to make something comic out of something that is actually quiet sad. This was respectful comedy at its best and probably why it is so enduring

Even scarier thought: in some parts of this sad old world this would BE a documentary. Thank you, Jaayzuss...
