I just love the lyrics to this song; outstanding. Various Positions was a great album, one of his best.

"Coming back to you", so sad but also romantic. So gentle and so Leonard at his most tender, lovely, lovely

Leonard's stiffness here is a bit curious (physical pain?), but this is the most soulful delivery of this great song that he's done.

My favorite line is, "And springtime starts and then it stops in the name of something new". It so heartwrenchingly and powerfully conveys how love can renew the world, but then if it goes bad, the world suddenly plunges into darkness. Something so horrible has happened that it upsets the very balance of nature and surely the sky itself will come crashing down.

Leonard Cohen is a master songwriter. As a singer . . . well . . . Anyway, this is one of his great works. Thankfully, it has been covered by many skilled artists.

Not a good singer technically, but his monotonous voice really suits his songs.

What is the exact source of this great performance? Does anyone have the interview Ray Martin did with Cohen for this same May 1985 broadcast?

Does anyone know what year he recorded this...?

Sounds like Coming Back to you, only sung by Leonard Cohen.

The guy doing the intro is Ray Martin , a muckraking tabloid journalist and it really pisses me off seeing him in the same video as Leonard . The ridiculous to the sublime .

Rdemption is this: the ridiculous bearing homage to the sublime.
