Honestly, a few months ago I ordered a single slice of pizza and a beer. They put it on the counter for me but then I realized I had left my card at home. I was so embarrassed and ashamed and apologized for the wasted food. They were super nice to me and told me it was on the house. I felt ashamed and was going to say 'no' but they said otherwise it would just be thrown away. I thanked them and accepted it. The next day I came back and paid with cash. I made a real mistake but I think your attitude makes a huge difference. They knew I made a mistake and that I didn't feel like I was owed anything. Honestly, attitude makes a huge difference.

Same thing happened to me at a gas station I go to every morning. I had several items at the register and then realized I forgot my wallet. They saw how embarrassed I was, as I started putting things back they told me I could pay later. I still drove right home got my wallet and went straight back and paid them. They said, you could have have paid us another day. But If I would have waited it would have bothered me. It pays to be honest and friendly.
