I absolutely loved this video. It was so helpful! I have been looking into getting into the reptile breeding hobby. I was looking into the leopard gecko and also possibly the Western Banded gecko which are very similar in how to breed with some differences. I was leaning toward the banded geckos because they aren't as commonly bred and are very often taken out of the wild and I would love to produce some captive bred specimens. But it really depends on if I will be able to find any available. I am going to a few reptile shows in the next year so maybe I will find some there. If not I would love to get into leopard gecko breeding. I have an empty 20 gallon long right now and I would love to get a baby from you because I know they would have great genetics and would have been super well cared for.

I just have one question, my female gecko layed 2 eggs yesterday, but the question is, can I put the eggs in a container with no holes? or Do I have to make some holes in the container that goes into the incubator? Crested geckos are NOT supposed to eat insects or “live food” they are fruit eaters so should only be fed crestedgecko diet.

Wickens Wicked Reptiles awesome thanks. I paired a male and female about 3 weeks ago and my female (Domino) had shed a few days prior. I didn’t see copulation but Satan would vibrate his tail and all that. I did see him with his hemi-peens out and he was cleaning them off. From the sounds of what I have heard she probably has been fertilized. Since it’s my first season I cannot tell what white spots on her belly are what lol. I’ll get the incubator ready just Incase! Thanks again for all the information! I’ll have to put the videos I have of him and her scenting the enclosure and him wanting to be a rattlesnake online. Ahshhs

If I put one leo with my other leo inside of their tank just to mate once would they mate inside and the humid hide has lots of dirt so she could lay her eggs and there I could move the eggs into incubation still but I’m curious would that work to mate them or would I have to setup a breeding tub either way is fine I just want to know if I need to set one up for the future or not

Do you have info about how to determine their sex if you went for the mixed clutch? Which could also be helpful when choosing one for a pet, if you specifically want just a male or just females, it would probably be especially important if you would like two females to share a larger enclosure.

when they are super young it is hard to tell but as they get older you can see a males pores. Quick google search will show side by side.

I am late to this video, but none the less I have a question that I can't quite find an answer to. You did kind of answer this, but I want to ask specifically. I added the male, & actually watched them mate. I removed the male. She laid 2 eggs. Now my question is, do I need to keep adding the male back in order for them to mate again in order for her to keep laying eggs?

Hey dude. So do you reintroduce your male after every clutch is laid or do you only pair them once or a couple times throughout the season? I've read females can store sperm for months but im not sure if this is true.

This probably might be a silly question but I'm a bit confused. If i put the male and female together, do I get 1-2 eggs then have to re-pair them together to get another 1 or 2 eggs. Or do you put them in once and you get like 16 eggs over the season? I don't want to end up with like 16 eggs by mistake 😂

You can pair just once a season, I try to paid every 4-5 days for a few hours for the first three weeks to make sure the sperm takes.

So the leopard gecko lays clutches within a 4-5 month time. Do you incubate every clutch together (even if she lays 2 eggs) or wait for the 4-5month time? Also if i do incubate the clutches together will they hatch earlier than the other clutches

I don't really know what you're asking. The clutches come one after another 2-3 weeks apart, I incubate them all. Not sure what your question is.

A male should never live with a female. He could over breed her , stress her out can cause her to become egg bound. Do you know their genetics? If not they should not be bred

Iv incubated in incubators in Tupperware ontop of cable boxes and inside the parents enclosure (tupperwared) hot side for males cool side for females . Some people go crazy trying to make everything perfect .keep em warm and damp and in few weeks u will have baby lizards . Eggs are really hardy nature isn't perfect iv seen eggs I thought were goners bounce back with a watering or just patience .Leo's are one of the easiest reptiles to breed and raise from hatchlings

I heard the female can lay+- 6 - 8 clutches is that from one pairing? I want to experience the breeding process but I want to be responsible and not have load's of babies i don't have a plan for. I've done loads of research and i know what the parent's genetics are and they have a varied diet and appropriate supplements - long winded sorry! under normal conditions am i looking at 2-4 babies or closer to 16 only going to have the male in once but that's on ice until i know more.

You forgot a very important part. The genetics must be known and compatible. Lots of genetics cannot be crossed or have certain health related issues linked to the gene. Also 46bgrams might be a healthy weight for one animal but not a healthy weight for another.

I have rescued two Leo geckos they came in the same container. it's look like they live together their whole life. They don't have nails. It's a female and a male I was a little skeptical watching a bunch of videos and researching. But she doesn't let him bother her you can tell it's been forever together. I have videos on my channel. This morning I woke up and she laid 2 eggs. So I went out and bought the vermiculite. I put it in a container. And then I put the water for it and all that. She laid then last night. But I put them in the container. Now she's scratching around looking around them. Is that normal I'm not trying to stress her out too much

It’s best to start off with cheaper morphs, no one is going to buy a $500 gecko from an unknown breeder. You have to become reputable first and be able to prove the parents have good genes and are from a reliable breeder.

As much as this video is informative, videos like this always leave a bit of a bad taste, not because of you or your content but because I'm always wondering who it will entice to take this up for all the wrong reasons, then they end up not caring for the animals properly, a lot of people asking often times don't have the first clue about leopard geckos and proper husbandry and should ABSOLUTELY NOT be breeding them. I really wish you would add this to your video as a disclaimer. Too many people see this as just a hobby or just a way to make some money on the side (which btw, you are not going to self sustain on this, especially not if you are not properly caring for the animals, it will show) and just doing it for all the wrong reasons. I appreciate videos like this that are meant to be informative, I would really just be happy if people that made these videos added that this is not something you take up like painting and just jump in and that ETHICS are always important when it comes to breeding any animal.
