As mentioned in another comment Fn+Arrows is great for Home/End/PgUp/PgDn. I got so used to it this way that now it’s hard to go back, plus as a ThinkPad user you would already be used to this (ThinkPad + Leopold/Topre = great choice!). I prefer my main Fn on the other side of the board though so I used the dip switch to move it over initially , and then got a Hasu controller so I could map CapsLock to Fn which has been the best for me (with CapsLock mapped to Fn+Tab like HHKB).

Just curious, do you still use this years later? I appreciate you probably have a couple boards now, but wondering if it’s still around and in the rotation. Cheers :)

To make this keyboard ideal - add silencing rings (or go with silenced version of 660c) and lube the stems. This will give you a fantastic typing experience. 660c is much better in comparison to HHKB in both layout, quality of the build, and overall aesthetics.
@GadgeDee
@GadgeDee 4 жыл бұрын
cryohellinc 🤔 interesting. I may give the silenced version a try. Yes, the build quality and aesthetics are major wins for Leopold.

You mentioned that you use home and end more than insert and delete. You might already know this but you can also use Fn + left/right as home/end, which is pretty convenient and justifies the delete button in the top right space instead of home/end in my opinion. But in all honestly I will admit that insert button is pretty useless lol (but then again what other key would they put there, now that I think about it). Great review!
@GadgeDee
@GadgeDee 4 жыл бұрын
John Salazar Thank you! 😊 Yes, I was told by another guy of how to activate insert. But still thanks for your comment! I can definitely see your point. After my review, I adapted to this layout, which helped me to learn how to adjust with using other keys and shortcuts that I forget about lol. Like you said though it just works for this keyboard.

Keyboard sounds pretty decent, this is coming from someone using mx reds with $16 keycaps lol Im somewhat starting to get into keyboards, looking for one around $200ish and looking through the options was wanting to build one just not confident in my solder skills right now
@GadgeDee
@GadgeDee 4 жыл бұрын
Swift's Tech Talks Lol I started off the pretty much the same. I completely understand. Tbh, the options for great quality pre-builts around that price are limited. It almost force you to consider building your own, which I am in the process of doing. I have been very nervous to solder this kit I have because I’m somewhat a perfectionist and don’t want to mess up. But you have to just kind of push yourself and don’t be afraid. The accomplishment will be rewarding in the end.

@@GadgeDee yeah, I think I may just snag myself a prebuilt for now and use my old keyboard to practice desoldering which I've heard is a pain but I need the practice anyways then I may get some practice boards for soldering It doesnt seem very difficult but I've only soldered wires together for modding pc stuff

Nice video! I have the new HHKB Pro Hybrid and this board but silenced. I really can’t choose between the two. Both of them have their own unique characteristics and I use them equally time wise. The FC660c though, feels more sturdy.

unapt Thank you! I really appreciate your comment and subscription! I truly believe that it’s hard to choose. Although the HHKB is 60%, I think I will enjoy it better than other 60% keyboards I’ve tried. HHKB Pro Hybrid is the one I would like to add to my arsenal as well. I just prefer to have the Bluetooth version. Yeah, I seen how easy HHKB slides around. But it’s cool that you can appreciate both. 👍🏾

GadgeDee I use it to swap backspace and backslash. Having the grave key on the left at this point would be troublesome, too. The one disadvantage of using nice keyboards with a custom layouts is that now I feel dumb and slow if I have to use a laptop keyboard.

Mini USB is a bit old. I am planning to get one but just noticed some reviews are from 6-7 years ago for this same model. Didn't know it was so old. Now not sure if I want to support the brand doesn't evolve with the time at all. In the same Topre family, HHKB has changed from mini, micro USB to type c and with bluetooth to connect to 4 devices. But HHKB is just too pricy.
@GadgeDee
@GadgeDee 4 жыл бұрын
Chunlun Donnie Lee I agree. I was surprised with the age of Leopold’s mechanical keyboards. Although, I will say the quality feels timeless. It sucks they are still using Mini USB (my biggest gripe), which is why I haven’t purchased more of their keyboards. However, I have seen reviews where they are testing Bluetooth on their keyboards. Not sure if they are looking to release that yet since that information was released a while ago. HHKB has lowered the prices on their models, but like you said still pricey.

this keyboard is good for gaming or typing?
@GadgeDee
@GadgeDee 3 жыл бұрын
It’s a matter of preference. Typing is primarily what I use it for since I’m not a PC gamer at this time. However, I haven’t seen anyone not use it for gaming. It would be interesting to know if it’s considered or used for gaming. I don’t want to assume it isn’t.
