One of the best ways to start an album, and the piano closing it is a real gem. Oh, about gems embedded in Blackwater Park... there is a gem called "Dirge for November": so beautiful, so full of constrasts and "o-sitions". You should try it!

Opeth does not like Dirge for November.
@DarioCastello19942 жыл бұрын
@@OberDesiah how could that be a relevant information? Even if we assume that it is true (and I doubt it), the mere fact that the authors declared that they don't like that song anymore doesn't make it less beautiful to me. I still believe that Dirge for November is one of the best Opeth' song, despite of what Opeth themselves may think about it! :)

Never clicked on one of your videos so fast, this is hands down my favorite Opeth song, and for me it is the quintessential Opeth masterpiece, it’s got all of their best elements on full display: heaviness? Check, it’s one of their heaviest in fact; incredible transitions? Check, check, check; beautiful melodies? Check again, the solo in the middle (after he says “sleep inside through days”) is possibly my favorite Opeth solo, so melodic and that lead guitar melody closing the song before the piano kicks in is also incredible; epic drumming? Of course, and the list goes on and on. You get some of Mikael’s best growls, a standout clean singing section (especially at the time of the album’s release), this is one of their best composed songs by far. I have so much more to say about it but I’ll save that for a book I guess lol, but I’m so glad you loved this song, I was worried it might be too heavy and too much demon for your tastes but you said it yourself, the music is just too good.

Opeth does know how to start an album. The Moor perfectly sets the mood and story for Still Life Album. The start of Leper Affinity is so hard hitting and sets up the masterpiece that is Blackwater Park. Windowpane encapsulates the beauty and poignancy of Damnation. Ghost Reveries starts with frigging Ghost of Perdition. And you already know the opening two tracks of Watershed.

Great song and reaction as always! Now that it's clear you like Opeth so much, I think you should check out at least one song from Ne Obliviscaris. I would start with, "...And Plague Flowers the Kaleidescope". They're proggy like Opeth, have a "demon" vocalist, and a violinist that also has amazing clean vocals.

Oh, Lauren! You make me laugh! Now I don't remember what I was going to say. ..... I liked it a lot. I think you called it twin demons, or something similar. The first thing I thought was double demon. I love an eerie piano, too. Love it! It reminds me of my dad. I always wanted him to play this spooky Bach piece. It sounded better on the pipe organ, at church, than it did on the piano at home. He would only play it for me while practicing. I couldn't get him to play during church.😂

The 'Blackwater Park' album (2001) is considered Opeth's masterpiece - it put the band on the map 🤘🤘I recall seeing them for the first time in concert in 2003 (The 'Deliverance' / 'Damnation' tour) w/ Lacuna Coil opening. The line-up on this track: Mikael Akerfeldt (vocals/ guitar), Peter Lindgren (guitar), Martin Mendez (bass), Martin Lopez (drums)... Steve Wilson produced it and played keys on the record. Check out 'The Leper Affinity' live in concert here: (Martin 'Axe' Axenrot on drums, Fredrik Akesson on guitar & Per Wiberg on keys) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGKnk5yMprx_f7M

It`s a pity that this song won the poll over Black Rose Immortal. C'mon guys! The Lepper Affinity is great, but I think Lauren already reacted to songs of this type. On the other hand, it would be much more interesting to see her react to Opeth's first era, from which Black Rose Immortal is the best song IMO, and to know what she thinks of the demon in that song, which is more close to a black metal demon. Well, I hope for the next poll Lauren chooses three songs from the first or second album....One more thing Lauren, you should check the song Silhouette from the first album, it`s an only piano track....but in a very Opethian way....

@@jettrainbow Thank you! I thought I was the only one thinking that. The first two albums are really just riff collections with poor production.
