"His screaming is almost pretty" Hell yes, it is ! And your reaction to his singing is just priceless !!! This band like many others (Ihsahn, Devin, Opeth etc...) are just re-defining the concept of composition in metal music. They are using the beauty of extreme metal to deliver much more emotions than in the traditionnal raw sounding metal genres. Please give Opeth a chance. Magnificant band with a very unique vocalist and sound. The song "Deliverance" from the lamentations DVD is a very good starter :)

You are right about everything, but they are already so much better than Tool - Tool has not a single song that melodically can match Leprous songs. Danny is interesting to watch only from a technical point of view, Baard is not only technical, but also musical and such a charismatic drummer. I also love Einar's voice and style more than Maynard's, but maybe it's a matter of taste. It also doesn't hurt, that Leprous regularly releases topnotch albums - every single one of which has at least several masterpieces . All in all - Leprous is hands down the best band in the world right now, maybe even of all time.

I just found your channel today! Something I've grown to appreciate from seeing musicians from a certain background react to other genres that they're not familiar with is the mutual respect all around. Especially opera/jazz musicians reacting to metal. It's easy to get lost in the grit and coarseness of the music but to sit back and just appreciate the level of skill and dedication required to get to that level... Musicians can all understand the amount of dedication and work required, no matter the genre. Much love, and glad I found your channel!

Thanks for checking them out. I’m glad you enjoy them! Leprous is one of my favorite bands. This song in particular really brings out an emotional reaction EVERY time I listen. Between the lyrics, Einar’s vocal expression, the instrumental tension, and song structure, it makes me tear up. I find this song (and most of their songs) interesting in that they seem to creat sections and sit in a pocket for a bit and then move on to the next. They like to revisit sections with few changes. For this song in particular, there is TONS of emotion build without much movement. The song itself doesn’t actually go anywhere- it sits in a ruminatory state (which might be why it’s such a taxing listen- like you mentioned early). I like to think about their songs as an emotional journey to nowhere. Thanks so much for sharing as always and see you next video! ✌🏽

Very glad you were able to get this unblocked Elizabeth! What a wonderful video. You're definitely right in that his screams are unlike anything that's been on the channel so far - clear black metal influence, which makes perfect sense considering his upbringing and the band's roots, although Einar has said on multiple occasions that he dislikes that he generally can't really push his screams the way he would like to and that they always come out too quiet. "Contaminate Me" from the same show at the Rockefeller is a perfect example of what he means by that and an amazing display of the insane talent within the Solberg/Tveitan family. Heidi (or as many of us know her, Ihriel) as well as her three brothers Einar, Kenneth and PZ (all of which have worked with her and Leprous or Peccatum) are awesome in their own right, the fact they were fortunate enough to have grown up with Ihsahn one of the pioneers of black metal as well as one of the best composers for metal in general turns to no surprise that Leprous sounds the way they do. I'm so happy they have been seeing the success they deserve.

I'm very happy to have found your channel. I've watched a bunch of reaction videos over the last year or two but I've come to love yours more than most. The face you make as you get excited is exactly how I feel like I look when listening to certain music. I grew up listening to my father play guitar and sing since I was in the womb and I've grown up in a household where music makes you weep the 1st time or 1000th time you hear a great song, or even part of a song, with encouragement. I've gotten to take my dad to as many concerts of music I love as he did for me when I was a kid. And even turned my grandmother onto A Perfect Circle, which she listens to every time she's in my car. =] My wife loves it when certain songs come on because the joy in my face is only really captured by a few things, and music is a continued source of that joy. She also asks me to explain to her what it is I love about the certain parts of songs (or entire songs) so I get to really delve into what it is and why I love it. So to be able to point to another person that has that same reaction I do is great. Some recommendations I have for unique and talented vocalists: Claudio Sanchez (with or without Coheed and Cambira): "Hello" (Adele cover, one beautiful voice covering another) "Atlas" (live, solo, acoustic cover of the song he wrote for his newborn son) and "Mother Superior" (acoustic version of a Coheed and Cambria song with the full band) are some of the live standouts. Anthony Green from Circa Survive: Anything really but I think the best show of his incredible and unique voice is on the youtube video of "Get Out (Myspace Transmissions)" Andrew Mailloux from Rishloo: This one would be harder to find. If you compare live recordings (all I could find is phone recordings so they have A LOT of noise and aren't the best quality) to the record, you can hear the record is a relatively untouched vocal track. Having seen them live a dozen or two times over the last 20 years I can confirm they sound very similar. I would check out "Scissorlips" or "Landminds" as the best showing of his vocal capabilities. Thank you for your content. Love the channel and I'll be going through the rest of your videos as fast as I can. Cheers

I discovered this song in september and listened to it for many days straight. I was saying to me that this song recall Freddie Mercury's voice for me. I don't know if it makes sense, but, except the theatrical and classical style of music clearly inserted into this prog metal genre, it seems to me that his voice has some qualities similar to Freddie's. Maybe the way he makes the ornaments, maybe the actual timbre. Maybe all this things. Of course they are all different thing from Queen: it's just that it is very nostalgic to find features in an artist's work that recall you the works of another beloved one.

I think you would love reacting to some Agent Fresco :) Leprous and AF are very complementary and they actually both toured together for quite a while. Arnór (singer from AF) is an incredible power house of emotions, and worth every second.

Loved the reaction video. Excellent as always. You need to check "The Sky is Red" from them. Also, I would recommend "King" from "Tesseract". Daniel Tompkins is an amazing vocalist and he released a "live in the studio vocal performance" video this year for this song and others. Cheers from a Brazilian Fan

For me "The Sky is Red" is their best song, by far.

Also, check out their song Rewind. I love Einar's vocals in that one (and Baard's drumming is ridiculous). Also, I think you'd enjoy Daniel Tompkins (Tesseract).

Now that you have done this one you should listen to the entire Pitfalls album, it is soo good and i know you will enjoy it. Edit: In their latest livestream i sounded as if they have moved away from the screaming and prefer not to play their older stuff. It was a show were the audience voted for the songs and i sounded as if they prefer their newer material.

I *love* how much you love Einar's voice and style. He's definitely one of my favorite singers and has one of the most unique tones out there, in any genre. Dripping emotion is definitely how is describe it. It's great watching you fangirl even though you're still basically brand new to them. The band is phenomenal as well. They aways make such interesting musical choices and I never tire of listening to them.

Elizabeth, you should make this video public. Right now it's only available in the metal reactions playlist and this great video definitely deserves more views 😉 Also, I'm pretty sure Einar is doing voice with distortion, not false cord screaming. False cord is strictly voiceless and quite low pitched (even though you can change pitch with vowel modification, you never get too high).

Sneaky! I hadn't realized it would be viewable on the reactions playlist yet. It was previously completely blocked from all viewing, but that has since be released. I'm planning to premier it this Friday. :-)

@@TheCharismaticVoice Hehe! Well, in that case I feel very lucky that I was one of the few people who got to see it before the premier! Also, I'm very happy the copyright claim issue was sorted out because I REALLY wanted to hear you thoughts on Einar. "See" you at the premier and hugs from Madrid, Spain! P.S. I'll use this opportunity to recommend another prog metal singer. I think you'll love Daniel Tompkins from Tesseract, and the song Hexes Live at the Jägermeister studio would be an excellent place to start ;)

Elizabeth - I find your reviews fascinating, though some of that may be that I am wowed by your background and obvious expertise. I have noticed in watching many of your videos, you have a very expressive face, nothing goes unused in showing us what you think and how you feel, especially that wonderful smile when you have found something really good. I am wondering: 1) is that how you have always been, or is it a result of the work in many roles you have performed, and 2) does this quality play a large part in your singing? I also really like how you talk to your fans and viewers, with explanations of musical "stuff". Great, great job here! thank you for your efforts!

Hi Elizabeth, I Loved this performance and your reaction! This is the 1st time listening to this very unique Prog/Metal Band and I was Impressed by this song. The vocal melody which is elegant and majestic was simply Awesome! Einar's voice at the beginning is so hauntingly beautiful then switches to his strong screaming which was Amazing! I also enjoyed watching the (2) drummers performing side-by-side! The atmosphere, the voice and the power made this a remarkable piece of music!!! Thank you, Elizabeth!!! :-)

If you want the emotional male voices of metal listen to Roy Khan performing Abandoned by Kamelot. That guy has the feels and is amazing. Also, check out Damian Wilson singing Twisted Coil by Ayreon and Matt Barlow singing A Question of Heaven by Iced Earth from the album Alive in Athena, the last section of the song literally gives me goosebumps!
