Leroy Sibbles (of the Heptones) was one of the best musicians of the Rock Steady/Reggae era of the sixties and seventies. A composer, Lead Vocalist, Bassist, arranger, and much more.

Real talk. These musicians got nothing from the Publishing or Royalties. Alot of these classics ended up being sold to big music Corporations, and these classics are being used in Commercials and soundtracks. Disgusting shame

These artists were all taken advantage of; it's a crying shame they didn't get the financial benefits, and comfortable lifestyle in their later years, that their talents deserved. Reggae music had never sounded better or had more to say than it did in the days of the Heptones & Paragons etc.

That great catalog of music sits there waiting for the world to discover it. I always wondered why that era of music as good as it is didn't really do that great financially. Now I know, the spell of GREED have to be broken....Prophet inna real life

But the sound engineer, the guy who gave Studio1 that up leveled streetwise, rootsy bass sound, had a name, Sylvan Morris the original dub specialist.

One example of the great riddims Leroy was responsible for (too many to mention) is the great *"Mean Girl"* which was sung by Larry Marshall, the bassline by Sibbles. That is one of the most iconic Studio One riddims, which Joseph Hoo Kim of Channel One Studios lifted to produce the Mighty Diamonds' hit *"I Need A Roof."* The great Sugar Minott responded at Studio One on the original riddim with the same song, also a hit. Always rated Leroy and the Heptones for years. Their Studio One output is immense.

Bob Andy tell me seh Jackie Mitoo was the real producer at Studio One, the one who came up with the arrangements and orchestrations for most of the Golden Age hits for Mr Dodd. Bob tell me some things about Mr Sibbles too...

Even to this day nuff people don't know the difference between the Artiste, Producer, Engineer etc etc. Especially with today's technology where one man can literally stay home and do everything.

Dodd and his studio certainly gets credit for being a center of such a wealth of great music but his fiddling around with original master tapes when they were reissued for CD is a minus. So is the poor sound quality of some of those first CD's.

Yep. diminished the legacy a little bit with not being careful enough with how things were done. Can't take it back once it hits the market.

So many people sadly will never be introduced to the great musicians and music of Jamaica such AMAZING history from such a tiny island..
@khalidrogers43103 жыл бұрын
@@stevefuegner1876 At least Jamaica does a great job of chronicling the careers of their legends.. Sadly some other Caribbean countries often have their legends unrecorded so their music isn't fossilized.
