Hey Ol1911, Just watched this video again! I’ve watched it multiple times over the past few years... 😁 Anyway, I’m proud to say that I now own a Les Baer UTC, it’s fantastic! Super tight and everything is extremely well fit on the pistol. It’ll likely be my last new fully custom ordered Baer I order till Les Baer comes out with a new model I’m interested in owning. In other news, my first Wilson 1911 should be built and ready to be paid for any day, I ordered it back in July... I’m really looking forward to it! I hope you’ve been well and stay safe Sir! - Young Beretta

Hey there! Long time no talk. I'm sorry but I've been absent on YT for the most part of 2020 but still kickin' around with uploads. So my apologies for the late response. That is awesome you got a UTC!!!! enjoy it! I need to catch up on all your vids. I admit I haven't been around watching much but I want to. I think you will enjoy the Wilson maybe a little more than the UTC. But we shall see! I hear ya on waiting for things. All good things come to those who wait! so it will be so worth it when it finally arrives! I know a few guys that have been waiting on some HK clones for more than 6 months with still no word if they are going to be built, etc... 2020 has been a rough year and unfortunately with all that is happening I think its going to be an uphill battle with the gun rights, etc... but anyway please keep in touch and we'll talk soon!

Just if you were curious, tighter tolerances lead to much higher accuracy. They also can cause failure to feed and failure to go into battery if you use poor quality magazines.

A plain looking 1911 is still a work of art in my opinion and that should be a flawless shooter out of the box!! I've done the polishing on my 1911 and one day I'll buy a custom.

The "hard fit" refers to the lockup of the barrel, slide, and bushing. The slide SHOULD slide quite smoothly if you were to just move it along the rails without the barrel inserted.

These are incredible. I made the flight to quality away from quantity, and sold/ traded my way into two incredible Les Baer instruments. The Premier II w/ 1/2 MOA guaranty, and the INCREDIBLE Monolith: they are terribly addictive! Hand one to anyone with even a casual knowledge of 1911s and they're struck by the indisputable quality and superlative craftsmanship. I'd sell 10 "lesser' guns (pun intended) before I'd let go of one Les Baer. Creating a single ragged hole where the bullseye used to be with boring regularity is just one of the pleasures of ownership. Great video.

Congrats my friend, that is a beautiful no nonsense Baer. The fit and finish looks fantastic, the checkering on the front strap and main spring housing is impeccable. That 1911 just screams quality, breaking that baby in is going to be so much fun. You might get a couple hang ups during the break in period, but don't worry that's only because of how nice and tight it's fitted. After the first 500 rounds pure reliability, incredibly accurate. Can't wait for follow up and range videos. Good luck with it my friend, she's a beauty.

Beautiful weapon that you will be able to pass down to your kids if you have them. One of the key features of a Les Baer that I didn't hear you mention that brings up the price and desirability of the gun is the lack of molded metal parts even on the internals. Congrats on your treasure!

This one has problems. The gun has been flawless with Chip Mc mags. I love the old school look and feel of these basic LB 1911s. It is very accurate as well. Congrats on the pistol.

One really cool thing about Bear you will notice during take down... The barrel snaps into and out of place within the slide. They also dimple cut the slide stop / release to prevent premature slide lock. Have fun with that bushing, btw...

I own a variety of 45's from my trusty combat Colt to my Colt Gold Cup to my Les Baer which I've had for about 20 years. I've put probably around 10k rounds through it and it's still a tack driver.

Excellent choice! Love my Les Baer (SRP). They are incredibly tight though and was informed by my salesman that not to contact Les Baer until 500 rounds were fired through it. I didn't have any problems with it during the break in period. But it does have a stiff thumb safety (hard to put into safe, but works fine taking it off). Here's a tip with the bushing; before you turn the bushing have the barrel out of battery. It still will be hard to turn, but not as hard.

When you're sitting at home watching TV, push the safety on and off, using a rag to view it if it is giving you a blister. Just work it back and forth and by the end if thr night it will smooth in. Some thing woth thr bushing. Take the slide off and remove thr barrel. Then use the bushing and twist it back and forth while watching TV. By thr end of thr night, it will smooth in. It will still be tighter than any 1911 you've owned but it will have worn in.
@michaelmcduff22635 ай бұрын
That safety is the LBC Single Combat Safety which is his widest and his standard width. It's too wide for me as my thumb does not ride the safety when shooting. It also digs into my holster or side it is so wide. Left side lever is 0.450” O.A.W. off the frame. The LBC Tactical Safety is an improvement and great. Slightly thinner for comfortable carry but still wide enough to thumb ride if you choose. The Left side lever is 0.357” O.A.W. off the frame.

Solar_Empire good to hear the 10rd mags work well! The guys at the range that use 10rd mags all seem to have issues with them in various 1911s. ***** Well I picked up my utc today. Number lb413xy today. Couple things I noticed were the les baer frame seems slightly dimensionally different than my other 1911s. The frame grip in length front to back seems to be larger than my kimbers, colts, dan wessons etc. Even with the slim grips it seems larger in front to back length/width. I think you will notice the same between your rail gun and your utc. Also the rear of thr slide is cut or machined at a slightly more vertical angle. Looking at my other 1911s from the side the rear of the slide curves or arches forward towards the muzzle end. The les baer does so but at a less of an angle. It is more vertical. Only my ithaca novak model is cut similarly. Did yours come with an owners manual? Mine only came with a disassembly manual, certificate, product catalaog/brochure, registration card, patch and retail price guide. Glad yours is running well. I am unsure how mine will be.

Just remeber it was 5 rds of jhp at 15 yards. Finish is nice. Fit is no better than my other colts. Trigger is no better. I bought it to buy something colt and mostly because I cant find a les baer utc. I mean its a great gun but it doesnt feel special to me like the dan wesson valor etc.
@TheOl19119 жыл бұрын
TurboB18C1DC2 a few guys at the range have the o1990CM and they like them. I like them as well and feel if you find one at the right price (I feel they are priced a bit high) its a good 1911. They have had nothing but good luck with theirs. Not a single malfunction. You can tell its been worked over vs a production gun. I'm interested in the other version with the night sights. A lot of the guys now a days do the Gun Broker thing. Not only are they saving a few bucks but they get exactly what they want. I have always been wary buying online but tons of guys do with great success. Dan Wessons are real nice as well. I know a few guys with the Valor. Great 1911.

Nice Baer. I have to agree about government size. Good choice of magazines too. I can't believe all the oil and cardboard box comments. First, oil isn't unusual. I've purchased numerous 1911s over the years, from low end to high end, that looked like they'd been dunked in a bucket of oil. Big deal. Clean it up and move on. Now, the cardboard box. Do you people actually store your guns in a $15 foam lined plastic box? Whatever box my guns come in, whether cardboard or whatever, are never used again after the first ride home from my FFL.

I shot one of these, one of the very few guns that actually excited me. Even for a 1911, it just shot different. One of those few high end gun products where I'd have zero qualms paying the price they're asking. Of course, not everyone has that opinion of them. As for the packaging. It's never something that'll influence my decision on buying one, but its just cheap. I would have been tickled pink if they shipped a pelican case for it.

@TheOl19117 жыл бұрын
I do not own this anymore but yes - when I first had it I recall people had a ton of trouble racking the slide. A girl that I know who actually is obsessed with the gym and puts me to shame, LOL, she actually could not rack the slide and looked at me and said "Is this broken?" And when I was able to rack it she said "I guess I need to eat my Wheaties". But the gun will loosen up a bit if you shoot it a lot.

My biggest want right now is a Les Bear Recon but it costs almost $1000 more than a colt rail gun. Unless I start making a lot more within the next year (or figure out how to be a penny pincher already) I don't see that happening for a few years. So I guess the Colt it is. It'd be worth the money for that Les Baer though
@TheOl19118 жыл бұрын
don't forget to check out the Colt Combat Unit!!! That is well worth the money.

A friend of mine just got one off Gun Broker and I was able to try it out. I really liked it. I like the sights as well as the front strap checkering (very aggressive). I believe he got it for 1380. +TheOl1911 I've been seeing the standard rail guns for around a flat $1000-1100. but if I can find a combat unit around $1300 I'd gladly save the extra money.
@EdWeeks8 жыл бұрын
Do NOT get the recon. It's the only les baer pistol I would not recommend. The frame and slide are not Baer steel, they are cast parts outsourced to Caspian. If you need a rail on your 1911 either add one with a rail addon or get a colt rail gun. When you get a Baer pistol you are paying for the ultimate rugged reliability of a mostly machined from forged steel, hand-fitted pistol. The only "cast" parts on a baer are the ones that aren't taking a beating. The rest is forged or machine cut from billets of forged steel. The recon is not forged steel, the frame and slide are cast.
@TurboB18C1DC29 жыл бұрын
I guess just an fyi but if you want to speed up the break in you can hand cycle the slide a few hundred times if you are bored. I have an ithaca 1911 noval model that had a hand fit/hard fit barrel and slide etc and that gun was the same in that it was a struggle to rack the slide and even a little sluggish going into battery. I know on the dan wesson boards they recommend hand cycling the slide a couple hundred times before the first range visit. I figured Id give it a try and I probably hand cycled the slide must have been a thousand times and after probably 300 to 500 times it smoothed out. As another poster said you will notice the barrel snap in and out of the slide lugs. You will also see even /noticeable engagment of the barrel feet on the slide stop. Let me reiterate though that even the ithaca or the valors are still no baer. God I want one.

TurboB18C1DC2 thanks for the suggestion! I think I'm just gonna take it to the range and start blasting. The guys at the range in the "1911 Crew" (LOL) who own every 1911 you can imagine have told me with the Baer just shoot it and see what happens. Keep it lubed up and they also told me not to break it down until I hit at least 500rds. I do like Dan Wessons. Especially the 10mm version. The guys did tell me that it is advisable on the 10mm DW to lube it up with FP10 and hand cycle the thing a ton of times while watching your favorite movie or youtube vids before hitting the range for the first time, LOL. I didn't get that. But I guess one guy with a Silverback had a slight issue with the slide getting stuck during a session of blasting 10mm. But it corrected itself. Thanks for the insight!!! I'll report back as soon as I take it to the range.
@TurboB18C1DC29 жыл бұрын
***** yeah fp10 is factory recommended by dan wesson and kimber. Kimber actually gives you a small pouch of it. Dan wessons have been known to freeze up and gall due to the tolerances and stainless. supposedly a few years ago dan wesson changed the stainless they were using which is still 416 anyways and I kind of find it hard to believe as they source their slides and frames from remsport which uses korean forgings so I find it hard to believe. I agreed blasting is the best way compared to hand cycling. Sadly been to broke to shoot.

@ms.annthrope4152 жыл бұрын
The only issue I see with Les Baers is that they're all the same. The UTC is no different than the Custom Carry which i have or the Thunder Ranch or thr SRP except for some minor cosmetic differences. How many tactical 1911 models do we need? How are they different? A solid trigger in the UTC instead of a 3 hole trigger in the Custom Carry. 3 mags come with thr SRP instead if 2 mags. Big deal. They're all match grade components, hand fitted, Kart match barrel, tight fitting, 30 lines per inch front strap, except for some Concept Models, although my Concept VII has 30 lpi front strap checkering. Maybe adjustable rear sights or fixed wedge Novak style sights, tritium or no trit sights. But otherwise they're all the same. I do carry my Baer like I carry my Ed Brown SF or my Springfield Ronin. I try not to scratch my babies but they are not safe queens. I totally rely on them to defend my life or my spouse should it come to it. I don't abuse them ir toss them around but I'm not afraid of sliding them into my holster and going into the desert or woods or to the cigar lounge on a Friday night.

Wonderful. He "finally got his Les Baer pistol". He won't shoot it with the magazines that come with it. Swell. He's now got a "safe queen" - he says he won't carry it - it's a "pride of ownership" gun (which he states) - which means, of course, he'll "show it to his buddies", but he won't shoot it. Why? Because shooting it greatly devalues the gun. This is one of those "really stupid reviews" that illustrates why I stopped carry 1911's several years ago and went with HK's. They're accurate AND reliable and durable, right out of the box - and - you don't hurt the value by shooting them..! HK's were made to shoot, not to look at..!

Nice gun but it really makes me realize how much of a deal the Springfield TRP is. The TRP has ALL of the features of this Les Baer plus magwell, full length guide rod, better front strap checkering IMO, ambi thumb safety, skeletonized aluminum trigger and the list goes on, for half the price or more!
