You should have walked away the first time. I've had a guy I was meeting to buy a gun from try to set me up to be high jacked and likely killed. Unfortunately for him I smelled a rat and called up one of my cop contacts and reversed his play on him. It was glorious busting a dirt bag that thought he was luring out a sucker with a pocket full of cash to buy a few grand gun to his fate get busted in a last minute sting. He didn't even have the gun. Moral of this story... DO NOT agree to meet anyone in a remote spot or buy yourself any place with a known amount of cash or product of value. It's not 1980 anymore. I was going to say 1950 but no we could still trust people in the 80's.

Wow! What a total nutjob! I'm a FFL dealer, and I haven't had to deal with crazy to that extent. We deal with buyer's remorse/my wife find out all the time, but there's no refund for that. Next time you do a private sale, you find the buyer, work out the sales details, then have him meet you at YOUR normal gunshop, and pay you regular FFL to do a transfer.
@JonnyCrash7 жыл бұрын
I'll own a Les Baer someday. My wife is somewhat supportive of my hobby; I at least do her the courtesy of letting her know about impending purchases. I don't have tons of money for guns anyway, so it's not like I'm buying them left and right. Funny story!

I had done several private sales over the years with no problem, legal here in my state without a transfer. Sold a 38 revolver to a young guy a few yrs ago, met me wearing office work type clothes, with his daughter with him, filled out a bill of sale similar to yours for both of us. Almost a year later two plain clothes police are at my door, found out he was a felon, a drug dealer & in a raid the gun was found, traced back to me. I wasn't in any trouble, they were trying to pin the gun on him & as luck would have it, I couldn't find the bill of sale. I Identified him in photos & was expecting to be called it to his trial, but never heard anything more about it. Scared the sh.. out of me, I swore no more sales unless it was family.

Would you ever buy a Les Baer again? I actually bought a Thunder Ranch Special for myself on my 21st birthday for my first handgun and I really love the thing.
@mattanderson97658 жыл бұрын
Braidy Fisher congratulations on a Baer for a first gun! Whoa are you ever spoiling yourself on the other makers! I tried Kimber, Springfield, Colt, even bought a Sig 1911- then I won an auction on GB for a Concept V Les Baer- paid $1,400 for it Factory New in a Penny sale. That was early last year; now I have two more Les Baers! They keep multiplying in my safe! Wilson, Brown, NH all have excellent pistols no doubt, for me tho, I cannot imagine a better Functioning, more accurate and dependable 1911 than a Baer. Baer's aren't the prettiest, but dang aren't they a savage gun tho? Now I have 6 production 1911s I have to either pack in grease for LONG TERM storage, or sell. In reality, I'd like to sell them and get a 686 Smith or a 715 Dan Wesson with some of the money. My other two Baer's are the 429 Boss and Monolith HW; the TRS will most likely be very collectible some day.
@braidyfisher8 жыл бұрын
Matt Anderson Thats awsome man! I did want to buy a new Colt m1911a1, but sadly, i live in California and as of this year Colt has pulled the plug entirely on selling in this state, so this caused a basic Colt 1911 even used to go for $2000+. love my TRS its beautiful and SUPER reliable, I think my next gun will be a Smith revolver, I want either an old model 29 4", New 686+ 3", or a New 327 2" Im undecided.
@TheOl19118 жыл бұрын
Yes I would. I've always liked the SRP model and that HEMI stainless model. Keep that TRS! I thought I was striking up a deal with someone on a Springfield Professional Rail which to me is sorta like a LB but has more fine touches but is hard fit....but not sure... I'm waiting on this Nighthawk 10mm even trade to happen.

Get the Springfield Pro and don't look back! To me, they're the Holy Grail of 1911's. I have a Premier II and I love it, but it wasn't always that way. We had a rocky first few months of marriage. LOL! But, after a bit more work, it's running great now.

I'm pretty strict when it comes to stuff like that. If YOU want it, get your act together and come buy it. Meet me on my terms or not at all. That's one thing I hate about selling stuff. Although I've never had to deal with that level of crazy. Happy shooting and be safe bro!

... I sold off a few as well but use Gun Broker Exclusively through my local FFL. My Dad said that firearms are always a good investment and easily cash-able when funds are needed. Over the years i have sold off firearms to fund Braces, Blue Diamond Rings, a stint of unemployment and most recently my New Pole Barn Project... only once was a dispute over a Classic Winchester that was due to buyer lack of knowledge about the lever-gun! Anyway, that has been my experience and sorry that yours has gone left occasionally... Mike

When you said he wanted his money back (all of it and months after the sale) I immediately thought, why isn't the guy just selling it? I've had a couple bothersome sales/non-sales, lately with people I know... who work at a gun shop. Kinda pisses me off when I hold onto a firearm for one guy because he has pestered me for months and months that he wants my Saiga in 308 but he never makes the deal. He brings it up all the time, tells me how he is ready to convert it, shorten the barrel, blah blah blah. nice guy just pipe dreams I guess. I've pared down my collection so hopefully I won't have to deal with many more sales.

Selling guns is like riding motorcycles, you may have no problem selling guns privately but if you do it long enough, you will run into a crazy buyer. You might not crash and go down on a motorcycle but if you ride long enough, you will go down and get injured. Its risk management and only you can decide if it's worth doing.

LMAO you're privately selling and still want to go through an FFL for a transfer. You are lucky to sell anything. A simple hand receipt with time, date, and signature will do. It is NOT illegal to make personal sales without going through an FFL. If I'm going to make a private sale purchase and the person wants to go through an FFL, well why bother I'll just go buy a new gun that has never been used, or buy one through a Reputable business, if I have to go through that hassle. Obviously you are charging damn near new prices, because you said breaking even, so why would someone want to buy your gun in the first place. Then again there are aways stupid people that will. Also people remember there are always two sides to a story, and this is one side. Side note all sales are final, and only deal in cash screw a check.
