I know this reply's a bit late, but Gavroche's accent is meant to be off to show he grew up on the streets in the lower-class slums of Paris, and as such can't speak French properly (in regards to grammar and such)

Being French I don't get the obsession about the right accent to use. They don't speak italian and don't use an italian accent in Romeo and Juliet performance even if the action takes place in Italy, or Danish in Hamlet. Nothing wrong with that. Yes it is a french story, about french people in France and French people speak french. But if the actors are British or Americans, they speak english with their own accents.This is pointless to sing with a fake french accent or immitate a british accent. That boy is american and sings with an american accent. So be it.

Enrique Sanchez Actually, if it were to be completely accurate, their accents would be French. Les Mis is just usually done in the accent of the place it is performed in.

Am I the only one who thinks that Gavroche should be the one in the logo, not Cosette? He embodies the themes of the show more, and he does more(Including dying for the cause!)
@booberfraggle5 жыл бұрын
MediaMaster 263 I totally agree! A lot of the show is about the things that were done to help Cosette, but Gavroche actually participates and helps move the story along. I’d much rather him be the logo. He deserves it!
@melonyrobinson99444 жыл бұрын
I read this in a youtube comments section once, and to pass on the message, I would say that Gavroche is a good symbol for the show, but while Gavroche symbolizes more of lost innocence, Cosette symbolizes hope

It doesn't sound as good with the American accent, sounds better with the cockney accent
@KevinFalkmrbroadway4569 жыл бұрын

Just speaking English technically doesn't work with the setting either. I personally like the Cockney accent, too, as it represents the social status really well. But as this production is American, a cockney accent might have been a little weird, too, so...
