I love Earl Carpenter’s Bishop. Such a beautiful voice, I was so impressed when I first heard it.

this is one on favorite scenes. I actually got to play the Bishop in a school play. they reworked it to be a nun.

That’s awesome, I’m guessing you have a very good choir style voice?

And here's the first time I cry every time I watch Les Mis. It most certainly will not be the last.

"I have bought your soul for God" is really a powerful line. It always kinda bothers me that the movie changed this.

Merci pour le partage. Je regrette que cette version n’existe pas en version CD officiel. Ce cast est vraiment sublime et me donne les frissons à chaque note. Merci, merci et merci. ♥️♥️♥️

I don’t why, but I find both Les Misérables and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street to be a distant comparison of two Victorian stories. I could be dead wrong but-I mean, I felt like both Jean Valjean and Benjamin Barker (aka Sweeney Todd) to be in distant connections. I mean, they were in prison for so many years: Valjean, 19 close to 20, Benjamin Barker before he became Sweeney Todd, 15 years. Though, they’re not related at all because Valjean faced his inner struggle as a prisoner, meet the Bishop who changed his life, though he’s still being hunt down by Javert and we know what happens afterwards. Then, with Benjamin Barker, sailing back to London, with his savior that saved him from the ocean, Anthony, he chose to have revenge against the people that took his life and avenging his family. I don’t know why? I just think they’re similar connections dealing with poverty, prison life, struggling to be a new person-just I think they’re similar compared to literally storytelling from Victor Hugo to the folks who are unknown in writing the Penny Dreadful novellas. The String of Pearls is where it came from.

Nice comparison, but I think that rather than similar they are mirroring each other: while in the first case JVJ is chased, in the second BB is chasing; the first one finds redemption and peace, the second looks for justice and revenge; JVJ received the life he thought he didn't deserve (by welcoming the gift of the bishop), BB was punished with the death he thought he merited (he didn't resist his killer)

No you're not: I do like the beginning of your reasoning but I see it differently on certain points. I am not a film critic, I have no credentials to tell you that you're wrong ;)
