Wouldn't it be more useful to categorize the lines by where they end than where they begin?

That could be a very popular Jens Larsen product in the future. 😀 If you know where you are and where you end, you can chain phrases together.

I had this book years ago. My playing made quantum leaps in only a few months of serious study with it. Recommended it to a couple of students only yesterday!

I love the reference to what interval the phrases start on, really aids memory and the ability to move to other keys/positions

Have had this book for about 10 years now. Cover and contents still in good condition for the amount of use it has had. Still find it a source of inspiration when needed. Especially the substitution ideas noted at the end. Purchased in Denmark Street W1 at the same time as his Jazz Guitar Improv book by Hal Leonard. A must for any guitarist wanting to learn some nuts and bolts Bebop vocab. Nice review BTW cheers.

I studied with Les Wise and he suggested Bebop Bible to me to strengthen my jazz vocabulary. Excellent choice. I loved the book. Unfortunately, I had a few books get pilfered during a move. That one, Ted Greene's Chord Chemistry, and a few old Real Books!! Now I have Bebop Licks For Guitar which is the next best thing, but I am continuing to search for Bebop Bible. Fantastic book.

I have owned a copy for over 30 years. Still haven't finished it. I took a 20 year break from playing :/ I used to figure out 3+ fingering for each lick and play it over the circle of 5th. Very time consuming but also very fruitful. I'm watching the books you recommend and it seems I have many of them

Hi there Levi! Im now studying with this book and I think that it's necesary to learn every single idea in all possible fingerings or they are useless for me... It's this book intended as I see it? How did you suggest to study it? Thank you so much, love this section of your channel.

I don't think that's a good idea at all. The guitar is a complex instrument when you go down the rabbit hole of fingerings. You need to be more pragmatic if you want to ever achieve anything. I could take each lick in this book and finger each of them in 20 places... but some of them won't feel good, and some of them won't sound good, and at the end of that.... you have one piece of musical information. If you were more pragmatic, you'd have learned 10. Once you've learned 100, you'll find that when you hear the first one in your head, you'll be able to finger it in ways that you hadn't spent time practicing before, just as part of being better on the instrument.

Nice. I'm going to get this soon. I didn't know bebop was a type of jazz music, until I just searched for it now, lol. Thanks for the video!

Hi Levi! Have you read "Jazzology" published by Hal Leonard? If yes, what are your thoughts on this one? I'm enjoying a lot this series, thank you! PS: I know it is not a guitar book but, anyway, i would like to know what you think :)

maaate! Yes! I do happen to have that one. I had intended to talk about it in these early videos, but figured it was a bit of an outside choice. I think it's a pretty comprehensive theory book that's quite difficult to use if you don't play piano. One I REALLY like (that's similar to the bebop bible) is the Mike Steinel book "Building a Jazz Vocabulary", that's another Hal Leonard book. I refer to that one in my improvising vlog because there's a section in there where they demonstrate how many times Coltrane repeats the same 4 note fragments on Giant Steps.

Right on! I'll go for Mike Steinel's book then! Now that you mentioned, i remember watching that video hehehe! Thanks a lot!

I must own it! Or I _should_ own it. Any thoughts on his other books - Jazz Improvisation for Guitar and Jazz Solos for Guitar? (also why the hell do all the good teachers live millions of miles away....god damn geographical prisons....)

I think the lines aren't that good in that book. Sid Jacob Mel bays complete book of jazz guitar lines was WAY WAY WAY NICER :P All the lines were useful and classic bebop "you must know" (Go check it if you don't know !)
