"Wild nights, wild nights, were I with thee, wild nights would be our luxury. Futile the winds to a heart in port; Down with the compass down with the chart; Rowing in Eden, Ah the sea; Might I but moor tonight in thee." by E Dickinson. Anytime, Emily D.

The one Emily Dickinson poem I know by heart, I feel bad because we had an American poets portion of my high-school English class and she wrote so many gorgeous poems but that one just stuck in my mind.

I loved this film! Found it very charming. Being a lesbian in my 40s, I feel the end of the movie was very pronounced due to a possible older and hetronormative audience. I live in Texas and I can see the older generations needing a.... bit of help with these topics lol. Mho. Also, as someone who is writing an historical novel about a figure that lesbian erasure has absolutely been applied to, (🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️) I found Wild Nights bluntness refreshing ❤

I adore this film, based on the "Open Me Carefully" book of letters from Emily to Sue. Before that there was this site called Sappho of Lesbos (I think, I can't find it anymore) which had a ton of WLW poets including Emiliy's. At that time every other site was saying things like, "Emily was a spinster, not in love with anyone, etc" but reading her poems and letters to Susan on that site you could see that wasn't so. I'm glad she "blew up" recently because of science and just common sense.

The promotional material really did that movie dirty, there’s no way I would have thought it was funny. Thanks for the rec.

I’ve always had a peculiar connection to Emily Dickinson‘s poems. She’s always been my favorite… Next to a Korean poet that I would read when I was younger. But it makes me so happy that you are reviewing all of these content! The way you review literature, is porn. Be my Emily! And I’ll be your sue! LOL! JK. The only way you’re disappointing, is that your videos are way too short. I want more!❤️

I think because it had some flat acting it somehow influenced the pacing. The ending was very sad and had a heavy tone when most of the movie was trying for comedic. And I’ll watch anything with Molly Shannon but Dickinson set the bar cause Hailee and Ella are so damn good then wild nights seemed lackluster. I know I shouldn’t compare them but that’s how our silly brains work. I agree it hit the audience over the head with its message and at some point directors need to realize the audience isn’t moronic.

Thank you for the film rec! I heard about it when Dickinson came out but forgot. I would watch it, after I finish reading 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo'

It’s been a little while since I watched this one. I completely agree, it felt like I was watching two straight ladies. I’ll give Molly Shannon a pass on the lack of lez vibe because she’s hilarious regardless. Overall I enjoyed it but probably won’t rewatch. Thanks for the review!

erasure...like Sappho and many others have been, for example, the translators just swapped the genders...well sexes of the originally homosexual characters.
