I totally agree with your arguments here. Also on the first one- if you wait and get the money, you can still donate to charity, but you'd be in control of where it's donated to. You could donate it to a pro-LGBT organization just to double spite the homophobes

I worked for Chick-Fil-A for 5 years starting in high school and continuing throughout most of my undergraduate time. It was common knowledge I am queer. I was treated with total respect by everyone associated with the business and my time there was a very positive experience

It’s different when donations were/are made to support anti-LGBTQ+ orgs & politicians.
@jenn987652 жыл бұрын
@@Krjwzhr I know that Chick-fil-A helped me and many others tremendously regardless of sexual identity. Look behind what are considered "LGBTQ friendly" corporations and politicians into their investments and how they actually run their businesses and many of them are abysmally anti-human dignity canards wrapped up in a pretty scarf
@Krjwzhr2 жыл бұрын
@@jenn98765 the experience of Chick-fil-A employees varies drastically by location, but to be clear, in most states, employees could be fired simply for being LGBTQ. And to your point, we’ve all seen it and discussed the issues of “rainbow washing” during Pride month. It doesn’t take away the fact that Chick Fil A has outwardly and explicitly donated to anti-LGBTQ groups or organizations (some that directly supported ‘conversion therapy,’ and their indirect role in a push for state-sanctioned murder in Uganda and other countries)
@jenn987652 жыл бұрын
@@Krjwzhr First, It is against federal law to fire an employee for being LGBTQ with the only exception being "ministerial positions" within a religious institution. .You cannot site a single instance of Chick-fil-A firing an employee for sexual orientation. Second, Chick-fil-A has not played any role in "state-sanctioned murder" anywhere. Your statement is completely untrue. Third, "rainbow washing" aside, a perusal inside the business practices of some of Chick-fil-A's competitors as well as many other large corporations that are considered "LGBTQ friendly" based in the US will find egregious employment practices which are an affront to all human's rights
@Krjwzhr2 жыл бұрын
@@jenn98765 First, this was just because of a RECENT federal ruling in 2020… before that there is no federal law that expressly prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. Look into the many cases that happened beforehand. And even then, there are loopholes for employers to fire someone with an underlying reason for discrimination. Many employees remain closeted or feared of termination if they came out, especially where Chick Fil A contributed to such a homophobic environment. While it’s a franchise so it makes experiences like yours possible, it’s not all the same in other states. And plus some profits still go to the owner which has been donating to anti-LGBTQ politicians who’ve been trying hard to reverse that protection. Second, “a Ugandan government minister announced an intention to make homosexuality punishable by death in October 2019; the National Christian Foundation has funded projects that opposed LGBT rights in Uganda; and the WinShape Foundation, closely linked to Chick-fil-A, has funded the National Christian Foundation.” … just one example. And third, my point still stands. I make a point of researching who and what I support, but I also understand most times ethical consumption cannot be fully available under capitalism, but Chick Fil A isn’t the only chicken place available so… Why are you so adamant on supporting a corporation that harm the community you’re in?

Here’s the thing about the inheritance money: if you lie about your sexuality to get the money from them, then YOU can control which cause it goes to if that’s what you wanna do with it but if you come out and lose the inheritance, the money could be going anywhere. You will have no control over where it could end up, whereas if you waited to come out, then got the money, you could make sure it got to a cause you believed in instead of chancing it by coming out

I really love this video it really touches on subject people probably wouldn’t think of and my opinion on these stories would be 1. Wait it out until they go to get the 7 million dollars because it could really help you out with life in the future and as hard as it would be to keep that inside and not be able to be your true self around them there are plenty of other people you could be your self around and that wouldn’t say anything to them like the guy she told. 2. If the sister is saying that she can’t bring her partner due to possibly being drama with her husband to be family members is she really as supportive as she says because if she was why would she make you hide who you are, if she really cared about your feelings in this she would sit them down or have her fiancé do it and explain to them we understand you don’t like it or agree with it but this is our special day and we would really like to have her here with her partner, not tell her she can’t bring her gf so if It was me I wouldn’t go either. 3. As for apologizing to the girl like you guys said don’t do it unless it seriously bothers you that she is giving you dirty looks, other then that she deserved what was said because she started it and if she couldn’t handle it she shouldn’t have said anything about it and pointing fingers at the other girl.

I’m in my late 20s and my grandma still doesn’t know I’m a lesbian (you’re totally valid even if you don’t come out to every person you’ve ever known). So, I’d hold out for the money knowing I could live my best gay life and give generously to LGBTQ+ organizations. The wedding one pisses me off so much and the Christian girl shouldn’t have pointed fingers (especially if she’s closeted and not wanting someone to out her).

It's actually International women's right day, as it's not a day to "celebrate" (meaning consume) like father/mother day. It's a day about assessing women's rights that have been won/lost in the entire world and is all the work that still needs to be done to achieve gender equality. Def not a day to "celebrate" the mere existence of women.

When the reception was over a lot of family began helping put tables and things away, my girlfriend even tried to help. I refused to help and didn't let her help either, and told her we are guests we aren't here as family only family is cleaning up. My mom was mad at my refusal to help, but I held firm. Mom still brings it up years later and I remark the same each time, "I was a guest."
