There were countless stories, comics, novels covering all sorts of crises the Jedi encountered and had to contend with. The Stark Hyperspace War, the Yinchorri Uprising...Jedi would always run into possibly fatal situations, it was the nature of what they chose to do, the role they chose to play. If you look into the channel: The Mary Sue is the premier destination for entertainment geeks, female or otherwise. Coverage includes movies, comics, tv/movie fandom, and other cool stuff. The channel is directed towards female geeks. Also the term Mary Sue is defined as "a character archetype in fiction, usually a young woman, who is often portrayed as inexplicably competent across all domains, gifted with unique talents or powers, liked or respected by most other characters, unrealistically free of weaknesses, extremely attractive, innately virtuous, and generally lacking meaningful character flaws. Usually female and almost always the main character, a Mary Sue is often an author's idealized self-insertion, and may serve as a form of wish fulfillment. Mary Sue stories are often written by adolescent authors." The Mary Sue channel aligns with the values and direction that Leslie has, so it makes sense why she agreed to do a interview with them, because she knows she wont get her shit wrecked during the interview.

Her admitting that even as an adult she didnt understand what "seduced by the dark side" means is just insane 🤦♂️ Being seduced by the dark side has never meant it literally looks sexy or attractive physically (look at Anakin when he very first turns, the team working on ROTS intentionally made him look sickly and pale), the story (and george lucas) has always said its much more like a drug or an addiction to it. Just like people can be seduced by addiction and inner demons. Not *literal* seduction, but seduction as in being slowly strung along that path and being deceived into seeing benefits to it until its too late.
@dearthofdoohickeys47036 ай бұрын
Absolutely. I would add that literal seduction _could_ work too if done properly. Seduction can be overpowering just like a drug, so it follows the dark side could prey on those weaknesses. But you would have to make it clear in the writing that this is a dangerous thing. Also because kids are watching you would have to make it _suggestive_ , NOT explicit. Just put enough into the subtext so that only adults would understand what was really happening. Even the prequels did (or tried to do) that. Done properly it can be very a powerful and relatable warning. Of course that’s not what Leslie Headland did. Her scene was straight out of a cheap erotica novel and was extremely cringy.

It’s puzzling why Hollywood insists on cranking out media where every character is morally bankrupt, unappealing, or just plain annoying. This trend reflects a misguided belief that moral ambiguity equates to depth. In reality, it often results in a disengaged audience left with no one to care about or root for. There was a time when media offered a clear distinction between good and bad. Heroes were admirable, villains were loathsome, and the moral lines were boldly drawn. Sure, it might have been less "realistic," but it provided a satisfying narrative clarity that is sorely missing in media like The Acolyte. We don't need every character to be a paragon of virtue, but a little more effort in creating someone-anyone-worth investing in wouldn't hurt. The Acolyte epitomizes this unfortunate trend, delivering a story devoid of any likable characters, leaving viewers with a sense of detachment rather than engagement. Hollywood, it’s time to reintroduce some clear-cut heroes and villains. Let’s bring back the days when audiences could leave the theater feeling something other than apathy.

Yeah I don’t see how anyone can defend this. It must be entirely because they like the diversity and “themes”, because even as a self contained story, it’s contradictory and nonsensical. Indarra was killed by a dagger but Osha survived a crash landing from space. Even if you don’t care about the show breaking canon, it breaks its own logic constantly. Mae says she’s gonna turn herself in, and then when a Jedi tries to arrest her, she tries to kill them. Aniseya turns into an evil cloud but then when Sol stabs her she says she was gonna let Osha go with them. They’re searching for a vergence in the force by combing the dirt with metal detectors but they don’t notice the massive fortress carved into a mountain. Not only does this show not function in the Star Wars universe, it doesn’t even function as a self contained story.

6:28 - The Jedi were out of control due to **lack of oversight**?! What does she imagine changed? The Senate passed more regulations? The High Republic New Deal? What possible body in the empire was going to provide the oversight that could have constrained the Jedi? The whole point is that they were a priestly class capable of the feat of controlling themselves as individuals and as a organization. This is what makes Anikan's non-compliance such a enormous deviation.
@jamescampbell84826 ай бұрын
It's not about a birthday at all. The whole point of the prequel trilogy is that the Sith are finally coming out of hiding to orchestrate their ultimate plan of taking over the galaxy by instigating the clone war and playing from both sides to destroy the republic. The Phantom Menace has the Jedi say "the Sith have been extinct for a millennium" "I do not believe the Sith could've returned without us knowing" " hard to see the dark side is ." The Sith in the Phantom Menace confirm that they have been in hiding for that entire time when Darth Maul says "at last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi, at last we will have revenge." When Qui gon says "I have encountered a vergance in the force" "located around a person?" "A boy " The point in the Phantom Menace is that Anakin is a unique thing in the force that you don't see every day. The Sith are something that you do not see every day anymore. The acolyte series runs headfirst at 1000 miles an hour into every plot point from the Phantom Menace like it's a fucking brick wall ! That is the problem. Not only is a vergence in the force not an oddity, it's happened to an entire planet that is supposed to be lifeless after a huge hyperspace disaster. Witches have created two force sensitive beings that the Jedi are now aware of. The problem is the story in the acolyte diminishes the intelligence of the Jedi and makes you ask "how in the hell could they have missed all this?" It goes back to the skit that SWT did where Palpatine is trying to seduce Anakin. "what? Two?" Lmao When JJ blew up Vulcan in Star Trek 2009, it was a huge controversy up until the point that you realize it's an alternate timeline. No conflicts with the established lore. If this show came out and said this is an alternate timeline, it would be the same thing. But the fact is they didn't pay enough attention to the source material in its own internal logic. They are using the concepts of Star Wars like a vergence in the force, but they are ignoring the fact that the Phantom Menace treats these things as a mystery and an oddity. It's jarring for somebody who is going to watch the Phantom Menace after they see the Acolyte. This interview makes me understand what Leslie is trying to do much better and actually appreciate what she's trying to do better. The Jedi are Haughty assholes without oversight in the high Republic era. OK fine. But the fact that I'm getting this from this interview and not from the content itself is a huge issue. If Manny's character is supposed to be the good guy who is the rebel, that's great. Don't set this story 80 years before the main story where the roles are completely reversed.
@housbous10966 ай бұрын
