Just a little classical music to a display of kit brands I have stumbled across in my research yet that I had rarely or never heard of before. And there are so many I left out simple because it was late and I heeded to wrap up.

Dusek is a European company that produces wooden sailing ship models with laser cut wood. They are pricey but if you're into that, they look awesome. C in C made metal cast miniatures of Fasa sci-fi stuff and other things- they're gone now. GHQ makes miniatures for MicroArmor table-top miniature armor war gaming.

Eebro is a fairly easy to obtain F1 car kit manufacturer in Japan. I can also get their kits here in Australia at the local hobby shop. They are expensive but compare to Tamiya. There is a good documentary about them somewhere on KZbin. Micro Ace is another Japanese company that make train model kits. The have former Arii kits in their line up. I remember making 1/144 jet fighter kits from the first Ace on the list. I think they were a Korean company.

only a few I have ever heard. Arma: new Polish company with 1/72 aircrafts, very nice quality. Amusing Hobby: not so new (10years maybe?), mainly what-if WWII and later 1/35 armor, mostly nice quality. AMK: high quality aircrafts, their new F-14 Tomcat is a beauty. Commander Models: aftermarket resin conversion and some resin kits if I remember correctly. EMHAR: WWI themed kits I remember, but never had any of them. The rest is silence...

Emhar is the only one that, IMO, deserves its own video. Inpact made four excellent 1/48 kits of British between-the-wars fighters that were later sold by Pyro and Lindberg, but I don't know if they ever did anything else. K&B sold some Aurora kits under their own name late in Aurora's plastic kit life, and one of those Ace brands was a major Korean player at one time.

You still missed one of the greatest car kit makers... Jo-Han. When I was a boy in the 1970s I went to spend the summer with my grandparents. My grandpa took me to a hobby store to get a model. I chose the Jo-Han Mercedes Benz 500 SSK roadster kit (which my grandfather probably wasn't too happy with as he worked for Buick all his life). I don't remember what came of that kit but recently I bought and built that same kit again and it has even won a couple of awards.

Amusing Hobbies do a lot of 1/35 German "paper panzers". Attack Hobbies make 1/72 armor. C+C do (did?) metal miniatures in a variety of scales for tabletop wargaming. Emhar did some WWI armor WAY before everyone else joined in for the centenary. K+B re-issued some of the later Aurora WWI aircraft (I still have an unassembled Halberstadt Cl.II one).

I am completing two 1/72 P-40K kits now (a short tail and a long tail) from "Special Hobby". Very nicely detailed. I think they are in Czech Republic. Good company. A couple other recent companies I have kits from are: Pegasus. Several 1/48 WWII aircraft kits. They are snap kits, but reasonably detailed, good cockpit interiors, optional up or down gear. Plastic is a slicker type that doesn't like acrylic paints, need to use a spray primer before overall painting. Othe subjects too. Atlantis: They are reissuing a lot of old Aurora kits, odd scale aircraft and 1/48 vehicles, WWII and Cold War eras. Lacking detail compared to modern companies, but brings back childhood memories. These vintage kits point out how far model kits have come in detail and realism. I'd like to see a video on Hobby Boss too. Their accuracy is midrange, better than Aurora and Lindberg, lesser than Tamiya or recent Airfix. Their 1/72 "easy assembly" kits are surprisingly good.

I just received a kit by Arma Hobby, of Poland. The 1/72 Hurricane Mk. 1. A very detailed kit, on a par with recent Airfix and Tamiya. Superb details for this scale. I hadn't known of Arma Hobby til I saw this kit on Amazon. They have a Mk. 1 Trop kit too, so I'll order it. I love discovering new-to-me model companies, especially when they show real quality and attention to detail.

I've seen three of those brands with EMHAR being the bigger of three. EMHAR did quite a number of armour kits if my memory is correct. They came out in the early 2000's. They were kits of interesting subjects you'd hadn't really seen before like WWI tanks and such. The othe two were Minichamps and HazMat. I think HazMat were a source of accessories and such like Verlinden. I may be wrong but it's what I remember - and as they say, history is in the brain cells of the beholder. LOL

I've built kits from both Amusing Hobby and Emhar. Emhar is/was an english company. The kits I've built by it were WW1 tanks such as the Whippet and Mk IV. They were done in both 1/72 and 1/35 scales and while basic in part count/detail built fairly easily as models. From Amusing Hobby I have built their 1/48 Triflugel Luft 46 VTOL fighter. Nice kit, good fit but could have better instructions.

The K&B logo in your video is identical to that of the long established K&B Manufacturing company in Irwindale, CA that makes model airplane and watercraft engines, RC's, control line, etc. They are the only 'K&B' I have ever known, however an online search revealed some K&B model kits, and though I hesitate to allude to the Wingnut predicament, the K&B kits were all but one WWI subjects, which may be one reason why they are not familiar. So, is this the same company that makes the working model engines? The only other manufacturer that I recognized in the video was EMHAR. The one EMHAR kit I purchased long ago was the 1/72 F3H Demon. IMO it was poor quality and I didn't even bother to build it. Today, you can purchase a beautiful Demon from Sword Models, which brings me to my next point. The Czech model companies like Sword, Valom, and Special Hobby/MPM are making some beautiful and unique kits, the quality of which is leaps and bounds ahead of what it used to be. My favorite is Special Hobby. Their latest kits are very well engineered, and their instruction sheets are probably the best I've seen. A video on the rise in quality of these Czech kits would be worthwhile I think. Thanks.

Sadly OOB now. Classic Airframes: Jules Bringuier; an eclectic catalog of limited run kits. Soft tool moldings (1/48) that require some skill and experience, but models you wont get from anyone else. Couple of those are vaguely familiar. There's probably more in the aftermarket world, cottage industries that came and went. Like Laughing Whale, which was taken up by Midwest (possibly through an intermediary). Then, there are outfits like Combat Models, which had a mail order catalog of stapled-together pages, and of some distinctly uncommon kits and/or scales. But all in vacuform. Some of those you could pay extra to get moulded in thinner or thicker plastic. Detail varied, but was usually raised and limited to the undercuts their sign-making machine could draw a vacuum to.

They also can be a good place to start when scratchbuilding, especially ships for the hull form. Detail wise they can be somewhat lackluster but consider the medium. But for those who think its only a media for children kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXnCaXyoZ8d1aqc www.bing.com/images/search?q=Milan+Paulus+Models&FORM=RESTAB

Stanzel was a neat company that produced very nice balsa airplane models, as well as more of the toy type airplanes including the jet that you loaded onto a stick, pulled the trigger, and a spring shot it off into the air. They also had a popular motorized toy airplane with a wired battery pack and power switch that you held in your hand. They were a family oriented company that promised employees their jobs back when they left to fight in World War II. The company kept those promises. They have a neat museum in Schulenburg Texas which is between Houston and San Antonio. www.stanzelmuseum.org.

A lot of thier Squadron kits are kits from other manufactures, but with resin or other items from one of Squadron's aftermarket lines. For example, thier 1/72 A-37 Dragonfly 2 on 2 kit includes two Academy A-37 kits, resin cockpit and other details from True Details and decals from one of thier product lines.

Say Max, have you considered doing anything on the vacu-form kits? I would think that they would predate injection moulding. A long time ago, I worked with a guy who travelled the USA to places that had long running hobby shops and would buy the more obscure manufacturers kits that the store was all too happy to be rid of, many were vacuum form kits.

@@maxsmodels Thanks Max, you are correct of course, but vacu-form kits require additional skills (of which I lack) in addition to the cut, sand , position, glue; right, next part, kits. ;)

Another wow, Amusing are setting themselves up to disappoint.... Tameo, ADB, Meri, Leader are or were all French & Italian 1/43rd scale car kit producers in whitemetal/resin, Minichamps big in diecast cars (they originate from the Danhausen Empire, another long story), Ebbro do some very interesting plastic car kits in 1/24/25th scale. K&B did some excellent slot cars during the 60s boom but were mainly big in flying aircraft models, part of Aurora at one point ? Many thanks for more fab stuff !!!!

A very interesting list I have heard of seven of these companies. Over the last few months I have been compiling a list of plastic model manufactures and their labels. Plastic only, no resin, wood, or metal. You have a bunch I will need to check out and add. So far the list is up to 300. Thanks for the information.

Eh, some of these are aftermarket. If you’re gonna get into those, that’s a LOT of videos to do. Beemax is just an Aoshima offshoot. Ebbro makes excellent F1 cars.

Just seeing the names is only valueable to the folks that might have remembered them. To others, it just sparks more questions! I can think of a few... Zoukei-Mura. Tamiya killers, but expensive. I have yet to see any company come up with the level detail these kits have. Their Horton Ho-229 flying wing in particular is unreal. I have the 1/48 version, but their 1/32 scale kit, the engines are completely built up from the inside, meaning building the compressor section, combustion section, and turbine wheels they are that detailed. Even the 1/48 scale still has the turbine wheel and front compressor wheel on a rotating shaft. BelKits. They specialize in WRC rally cars. They are another Tamiya buster in the sense they come very complete... Seatbelts, extensive photoetched parts, etc. Possible exception is their Ford Fiesta WRC as there is a separate detail kit available. Kinetic Make some nice aircraft kits of subjects that can't be found elsewhere like the 1/48 S-2 Tracker, F-21 Kifir and 1/48 E2-C Hawkeye. Wolfpack Design. Special Hobby. Czech company that manufactures multimedia kits. A few Russian based companies such a Smer, ARK, Mars Models, ICM, Anigrand (They make the the only known kits of the Clint Eastwood version of the MiG-31 Firefox). Collectaire Manufacturers of oddball aircraft Great Wall Hobby. Not sure if they are obscure or a rising star. No experience with them, but people who have their kits seem to rave about them. Amazing the things that can be found on eBay! LOL!
