Less Junk, More Journey

We are moving out of our 40-foot fifth wheel and into a 24-foot class c motorhome. This is how our family of four packs for a road trip in a small RV.

We own a Minnie Winnie like this. Be careful about packing things on the shelf above the bed. If you have to make a sudden stop, those items can go flying. Trust me been there done that 🤣.

When I was a child, my three siblings and parents. and I lived in a small trailer for six months when we moved across country and it didn't have a bathroom......we used the trailer park facilities. From there, we moved into a Quonset hut and then into a house. Some of my best memories.

Use a grocery plastic bag with one of those rings that holds the bag on a drawer or cabinet door and save the cabinet for other stuff. Plus if you limit to a small bag it's easy to throw the bag everytime you stop.

I'm down to the 5 year countdown to the start of my next full-timing adventure and I've started downsizing. It's amazing how much stuff you accumulate. I constantly have three containers going...trash, sell and donate. I also have three lists...must take, would like to take and won't take but can't part with. Wish me luck, I'm definitely more Marissa than Nathan and I don't have a Nathan to help keep me on track, lol.

When Nathan was saying 80% is full and something comes in, something must go, I was shouting yes!!! It has taken years for me to get that across to my husband! He is one of those people who doesn’t want to get rid of anything and I am just the opposite. My two favorite words are “chunk it”!

We started in a tent, then an 11 ft. Truck camper. Next was a 31 ft. Fifth wheel followed by a few weeks back in a tent. We were elated then to move into a 30 ft. Class A. We expected to love it and actually disliked it's fancyness so sold it after just 5 months.. now we are very comfortable in our 31 ft. Class C.. this feels just right for us after about 24 years as full timers we feel like we've finally found our favorite rig that feels perfect for us. It takes a lot of testing out various styles to find what's best for you. Often it's not what you thought it would be. Enjoy the journey! Live, love and laugh as you move thru the years but always appreciate what and who you have in your lives. God Bless!

I was cringing watching you guys trying to pack for 4. I sm impressed though. I would have to say, I am our family (2 adults, 3 dogs, 1 cat) organizer. I just have a knack for it. I thing with all of your RV camping experience you guys have mastered the RV packing down to a science. We take delivery of our first RV (22' Grand Design Momentum 395MS-R) on Friday. We will be full-time around mid to late June., after our 7 solar panels and 4 Battle Born 270ah batteries are installed.

About those plans you have to make in jello. I think you did pretty good getting everything done in two days. My big score today for the RV was a couple of hot dog/marshmallow cookers at a garage sale marked for 50 cents. I didn't want anything else so the guy gave them too me for free. We're getting there but I still have a couple of apartments to work on and get ready before it gets cold up here in Michigan. Keep the good stuff coming guys and give the kids a hug for me. Just one more thing Marissa, you're a lot more beautiful than Nathan, at least in my eyes.

Thanks for the video. We just bought a 2019 Minnie Winnie and we have already done a couple of short trips to figure out what we needed to change. I was able to use storage containers for the cabinets above the dinnet and below the sink. We don't have a large trash can. The storage above the back bed is extra bedding. We don't use the bed above the cab so more storage. The storage below the front seat of the dinette is extra water, and soda and canned goods. Our big reno was the shower doors, we took them out and added a curved shower rod and a shower curtain. My walk-through tour is scheduled for May 17 and other renos and tours on Tuesdays after that date.

Two phrases I loved your use of....."cavernous" and then the most accurate statement I've ever heard when describing any situation in RVing.....you said "there is no magically". Indeed there is not....safe travels y'all....I love the videos and the journeys you bring us on. And my favorite thing...your channel name. That's a simple phrase I'm going to drill into our kids heads so that they aren't tied down by "stuff"

Great job on the packing! One tip - the top shelf above the sink - stuff on the left can shift forward sometimes so you might want to put that jar back where Marissa had it… Otherwise stuff stays pretty stable. I’ve forgotten things on the bathroom sink area that never fell. Phew.

I have that same unit. I use plastic bins over the dinette to keep my canned products and food supplies. The cabinet under the closet is a perfect place for my soft sided close basket. The one I have has handle strap and outside pocket which I keep my change & Tide pods in. Easy open cabinet, throw in clothes, when basket is full, pull out everything you need is right there to got to laundromat. Please let us know if you find organizational bins for the triangle storage in the bathroom. I cannot find anything to fit. It's very aggravating. Also could you post the storage containers that you got on Amazon. Thanks so much for sharing..

We made beds for our kids inside the benches when they were little. Slept with the lids off obviously 🙄 lined the rough edges with pool noodles and tape. I think we squeezed the bench cushions down inside as their base mattress. We used the table benches in the daytime as is/bare wood tops. Danya

You can use the attic for storage and put everything on the front seats when you stop. California is ruff for free overnight parking and people reserve things 6 months in advance. There are a few Cracker Barrels and many state beaches have lotteries or cancel lists but you have to check in at 8 or 9 am and wait until 2pm to get in. They also might charge parking while you wait. Good luck. Quick dry shorts and shirts work the best. Thin and lasts for days.

Marissa, I feel for you. We recently traded our 30ft. TT in for a 23 ft TT and the change in storage space available was mind boggling for me! I was forced to be brutally realistic as to what we actually needed and what we had room for. But dealing with less stuff makes you rely on your creative side and adds to the adventure. I only allow myself a stick blender in our 30' Airstream Marissa! But all Nathan's organizational tricks seem to have made room for your monster blender. Safe and happy travels westward. Enjoy that blender...

This just goes to show that there's no perfect RV. I love my Class C but want more room. Then you could make another argument for the other types of RV's. All of them have their pros and cons. I'm glad you guys are able to take a break and hit up more parks in a smaller rig. Looks like you're gonna have a great time.

Is that a new shirt, Nathan? Tania and I loved this episode, we really could relate to y'all. Tania always said I have a Lego mind when it comes to packing things in. And when Marissa said "I'm a work in progress." Tania laughed so hard, because she can relate to your conversation. Love you guys.

Marissa the cure for no counter space in the rv is to do your prep & washing up on the picnic table outside. my mum did that every time we went camping in our motorhome

If you visit Los Angeles, you must go to Universal Studios and try the Jurassic Park water ride. This will make up for Hawaii's Jurassic Park debacle. And you can tour the front and back lots of the studio too. You might even run into Steven Spielberg who, as you know, is responsible for Jurassic Park franchise. The DreamWorks offices where Spielberg works are right next to the office bungalows. Oh, almost forgot, Universal Studios has a parking lot for RVs.

@@LessJunkMoreJourney And they have props and cars from the Jurassic Park movies too. Back in the day (1990s) the studio allowed us background actors to wander into the park during our lunchbreak. Tourists loved seeing us in our costumes (Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas), but then social media happened. Now costumes and makeup can't be photographed and posted on Facebook, Instagram, etc. due to copyright and piracy issues. So visiting the park during filming is prohibited.

Wish you would have left your playlists grouped as states instead of the new "seasons". We've been watching you since the beginning and it was nice to be able to jump to a city or state you previously traveled for tips and POI to see. Hard to find anything now with the "seasons"
