Thank you, everyone, for your kind words. I'm lucky to have your support. I know many of you are in need of more advanced topics, but I've wanted to make a series for beginners for a long time. I'm grateful Natasha is willing to learn on camera (at least part of the time). Like me, she hopes our video lessons will help others. Please continue to encourage her as we continue our studies. AND for all you upper level students, a new video in the series English for Professionals will soon be ready!

Thank you Jennifer for sharing these helpful videos with us. I have fallen in love with your videos from the first time I watch them. It has opened my mind on how a teacher is supposed to teach his/her students and how a teacher is demanded to build up his/her student's courage to speak no matter what mistake his/her student would make. Moreover, the idea of not positioning yourself as a "teacher", but a "friend" especially in language learning program for non-native speakers is brilliant!

There are different methods, and this is what worked for Natasha. What you see on camera is a lot of the spoken practice we did. Especially as the weeks went on, we did a lot more off camera. Last fall I had Natasha focus on reading and vocabulary. We've had to take a break for the past couple of months. Hopefully, we'll start again soon. Good luck in your own teaching!

Jennifer you're a star!!! I took the celta course not long ago, and after I got home I had a private beginner student. I felt completely lost and didn't know what content I should prepare and how I can teach and interact with him because it's so different from a class lesson. This vedio is exactly what I need right now! Thank you so much for recording and sharing with us!
@Englishwithjennifer7 жыл бұрын
Hello Linglong. I'm happy these videos can give you some ideas. There's always going to be more than one way to approach a beginner. Just think about your learner's needs and what s/he needs. Remember your training and teach from the heart. All will be fine. Good luck!
@linglongchen70737 жыл бұрын
I found the hardest thing for teaching one to one is constructing the course program and deciding what to teach for each lesson... Unlike in the celta course the content was already selected for us. For this beginner student I've done the need analysis but I still struggle before each class what I should deliver... like last week I taught countries &nationalities, but during the lesson I couldn't help but think if this was really useful for the student. Do you think I need to study it somewhere before I can teach? Is there a 'how to teach one to one' course I can take like celta...?
@Englishwithjennifer7 жыл бұрын
There isn't one sequence of topics proven to be best for everyone. You teach what your student needs to know. You can always look at the table of contents of a grammar book at the student's level to get an idea of what is appropriate. Visit USALearns.org for more ideas and actual lessons you might share. Additional resources here: englishwithjennifer.com/teachers/teacher-resources/ You might like Off2Class.

Because it's interesting to see someone learn what you know so well. Then we're forced to consider why it's so challenging. All you have to do is imagine learning basic greetings in a language with a completely different alphabet. Not only would the words on the board be challenging, but we'd also struggle to make some of the sounds. Think of how difficult this lesson would be for you and me if the teacher were teaching us Hindi, Finnish, Vietnamese, Arabic, or Cantonese. Natasha is able to smile and laugh in every lesson. She has a sweet disposition. In any case, I'm glad you stopped by. Thanks!
