The ancient Muay Thai 'break the bird's wing' technique is a defensive move that is applied when your opponent throws a punch or sticks their arm out towards you. First, you stop the attack with a block, then you grab hold of the arm to control or break. In many instances, don't expect to just break your opponent's arm from the get-go because there will be resistance once they feel that you are grabbing their arm. What you can do to offset the resistance is to strike some more during this transition or continue to control the arm until you apply a wrist lock or another finishing move.
NOTE: This is a self-defense move against an average aggressor with someone who overcommits their arm, giving you a chance to grab hold of it. In the event that your opponent pulls their arm back, then abandon the grab altogether and transition into a more appropriate response.

this technique works when an aggressor overcommits their strike and you are able to block/grab hold of their wrist. if you are already holding hands this technique would be challenging to apply. thanks for your support.

No disrespect but is this ever used in fights? Like not by a couple of prodigies here and there but by a broad mass? I'm very sceptical but also no expert.

this is a self defense move designed for the average aggressor. if they overcommit or reach out, there is a chance to block/grab the arm. but it's not a final move. you can let go if they resist and do a different follow up. in a sportive situation against a skilled opponent, there will be no grabbing until after strikes have done the damage.

Good night teacher🙏. For this technique to work correctly, I must hold the wrist of the attacker with force and with my other arm, use my forearm pushing his elbow towards the ground, correct?

yes. when grabbing for this technique, your hand will slide towards the wrist where you will hold. slightly pulling it as you push down with your forearm.

thanks for responding Kru 🙏. I performed this technique with a friend who was stronger and taller than me, but instead of blocking the punch, I asked him to take my hand as if to greet me, then I blocked it with my forearm and grabbed the sliding wrist with my other forearm. I pushed him, he felt a lot of pain. Kru, can I use the part of my forearm close to the elbow to put pressure on the attacker's arm?, because I'm thin like you and I feel it gives more stability. thanks!

This style is just Silat modified for the ring sport thing.

there will be similarities between styles but this is an old school Muay Boran move for self defense not sport

If it wasn't for sport it would be Silat. I've been practicing Silat and Escrima since 1993 and Taiji, Bagua and Xingyi since 2008. I like practicing slow twisting and circling steps with blades. It nourishes my brain and I circulate my chi to stay healthy and massage my internal organs to stay soft and limber. The first thing I would teach someone is how to relax and root and circulate Qi. After relaxing, someone can learn basic Gong Fu!

​@@mikeneidlinger8857In the practice of muay boran there is also meditation based on Buddhism to empty the mind, I also like kali silat and pencack silat, however there are teachers who teach how to defend yourself from knives and firearms, I find this type of teaching very risky. I like Muay Boran more because I find it practical and very forceful, but all martial arts have good techniques. 🙏
