In this lesson, you will learn how to use TMB LCR when there is only 1 number out of 3 blocks. This will help you see when you can safely put 3 small numbers in a row within a block, and how to solve new numbers, small and large. It is easy to miss an opportunity. See if you can see this happen.

Hi there again; At 07:28 you do a WONDERFUL job of explaining how the 9 in Row four coupled with the 9 in Col two make for the 9 being at R5C3. Which also gives us the 3 at R4C3. At this point in the video we are working on solving the LEFT Col of BIG BLOCKS! We only have two more cells to fill in to complete the left middle block! That would be the 4's along with the 6's which you have already penciled in. Question 1: Why was it OK to use the 9's to find the 9 in that block, but not OK to use the 4 in Row 4 to solve the 4/6 4/6 pair? Question 2: EVEN WORSE! Remember at this point we are solving for the LEFT BIG BLOCKS! We only have one more cell to fill in Col 3. Why not fill that final cell with the 4? At 08:00 ****************************************** Lesson 5: The Effect of 3 Numbers in a row or column within a Block ****************************************** The 6/1/8 are 3 NUMBERS IN A ROW WITHIN A BLOCK! ( upper right box ) Put in the two 9's in Col 7 & 8! Then at 08:10 you choose to do the "ramifications" of the 9's, giving the beginner TWO Places where the 9's could go of FOUR empty cells in the right middle box. Then at 08:15 you choose NOT to do the 7's which can only be in Row 5, just like the 9's can only be in Row six ... in the middle right box. ****************************************** Lesson 5: The Effect of 3 Numbers in a row or column within a Block ****************************************** The 4/8/2 are 3 NUMBERS IN A ROW WITHIN A BLOCK! ( middle right box ) Put in the two 7's in Col 8 & 9! At 08:30, you DO NOT fully explain for a BEGINNER, why the 5's can only be in those two cells! At 09:05: " WE ONLY HAVE ONE TWO LEAVE IT! ":( @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ At 11:47 You point out that we have seven cells filled in Row 4, that ONLY 6/7 6/7 remain for Columns 2 & 5 At 12:12 you point out we can't have a 7 at R6C5 because of the 7 at R6C1, ... but you don't point out we can't have a 7 at R4C2 because OF THE SAME 7 at R6C1!!! At 15:12 You are doing 2's but you don't fill in the 2 at R7C8 ( the only cell left ) This is just so sad !!! At 16:54 you are explaining the value of "matching pairs", this is a VERY IMPORTANT CONCEPT for a BEGINNER to grasp. HOWEVER ... FILLING IN THE FINAL CELL OF A ROW, COLUMN OR BLOCK FAR OUTWEIGHS THE value of a matching pair each and every time! Especially for a BEGINNER!!!!

You are right in all cases. You will find that it is very easy to miss opportunities. If you have 2 people doing a puzzle I can guarantee that they will both take different paths. I sometimes deliberately miss something in order to show something else along the way. So often it is also a matter what you know, what you see and when.

I like the teaching style, and the new techniques; got me interested in sudoku again. But; only one 1 in the very first look at the puzzle should immediately give you the 1 in block 1. This is just ignored. @12:00 he puts a little 7 in a block that already has a 7 in. He corrects it later but still.. Many more examples of this kind of thing. I'll keep watching, as I'm still learning a lot. But with each miss or mistake I cringe a little more. :D I guess the thing that appeals most about Sudoku is the many ways you can approach each puzzle, and the many ways you can make mistakes.

That is his teaching style. He is making mistakes intentionally so we can say 'Oh, he missed it again. I'm getting good at it' and gain confidence. And seeing you comment on it backs up the fact that it is working and he is really a great teacher. I mean if he solves these easy puzzles normally (using his experience), the beginners will be like witchcraft, cheater, bad teacher, matrix confirmed, poker face, RageQuit, Cyborg... which you can see if you watch his advanced lessons. (Sorry if it sounds offensive but it's only out of my respect for the Sudoku Guy)

Nothing new here. This is all stuff you’ll pick up on your own when you do enough puzzles. I looked at around 15 easy level puzzles before I was able to complete one. I’ve completed hundreds of puzzles and I’m up to about 75% successful on the genius level. This is the first video I’ve watched, my curiosity got the better of me. Just keep doing them and you’ll be surprised how quickly you advance to the higher levels.
