Lesson 555 - English Grammar How to use SOME and ANY
Today I would like to share with you the English grammar about SOME and ANY. We are going to discuss about the different and how to use each of them correctly in the sentences.
Some is used:
-in a positive statement
-in a request
-in an offer
Any is used:
-in a negative statement
-in a question for general information/availability of something.
examples:
1-Positive Sentences
We have some food.
There are some buses to Siem Reap at 6:00am.
I met some friends.
I have some money.
2-Request សំណើរ ការសុំ ការស្នើសុំ
Can I have some water please?
Could you pass me some bananas?
Can I have some fruit, mother?
Can I have some more tea?
3-Offer ផ្តល់ ឲ្យ បម្រើ
Would you like some wine?
Do you want some bananas?
Would you like some more rice, sister?
Do you want some oranges?
1-Negative sentence ប្រយោគបដិសេធ
I don’t have any money.
They didn’t buy any thing for me.
She never drinks any juice.
I didn’t find any problems.
2-Question-Asking for information/availability
Do we have any fruit?
Do you have any bread?
Are there any lemons?
Are there any problems?

Hello Linda! This is a good question. Generally food is an uncountable noun. When we talk about general food or general concept. We have some food. (so it is without "S") BUT food can also be countable nouns. When you talk about different types of foods. We have different type of foods in restaurant (with "s") Do you understand?

Good practice. 1-5 are correct but 6 use any is correct because it is general question, not a request or an offer. Do you need any staff? Get it?

Very good practice. 1,2,3,4 and 6 are correct. But 5 is not yet correct. In the offer please use SOME. Would you like SOME juice?
