How we will know that we ahve to apply sum rule or product rule for a given question??

Sum Rule: Use this when you have different choices that don't affect each other. Just add up the number of choices. Example: If you can choose between ice cream or cake for dessert, you just count how many types of ice cream there are and add that to how many types of cake there are. Product Rule: Use this when you're making choices that depend on each other, like choosing a shirt and pants for an outfit. You multiply the number of choices for each item. Example: If you have 3 shirts and 2 pairs of pants, to find out how many outfits you can make, you multiply 3 by 2. So, sum rule is for adding choices that don't affect each other, while product rule is for multiplying choices that depend on each other.
