Great exercise! Thx. I find I have to keep the palm of my hand quite close (flush) to the fretboard in order for my pinkie not to "break." I think that's what you were suggesting. In case this helps someone...

I love your lessons, but without the book (which I ordered now) it is difficult to figure out the scheme. Can you please give the succession of fretting? Thanks a lot!

Makes more sense to start fret 5 or 7, then go up to first position, especially for beginners, no?

hi Bradford ,I wonder could you do a video or maybe write an article or talk briefly about motivation to practice ,I seem to have lost my way ,im struggling to sit down and start and stay at it once I start ,little things are annoying me about classical guitar lately eg nails breaking and constant tuning and a feeling of hitting a wall ....no doubt you have had struggles in the past or at least students ,my biggest asset was always work ethic

Good suggestion, although it's a complicated question as each person can react so differently to advice. For me personally, having played for over 25 years, I find that the idea of practicing but without thinking about 'me' or whether 'I'm good or bad' is very important. Sitting down each day for a small amount of time (you can practice longer if inspired), without any other goal than playing well (go ultra slow if needed) is key. Also, playing ensemble music has been a real motivator for me as solo repertoire can be so difficult. In regards to solos, when I teach, I make sure the majority of content for my students is easy enough that they can do really well and only give them one or two challenges. This ensures their self esteem and 'joy' of music is there while also having that one challenge to push them. I recommend you do the same, just make sure that easy is actually EASY!

+This is Classical Guitar thanks Bradford ,I think I am guilty of tackling repertoire bit beyond me and even worse too much of it at one time ,but my issue is iv invested two years of work so cant stop now ! your approach however makes so much sense ,choosing pieces in future I will be more careful. overwhelm and burn out are huge issues with students and seldom discussed, this is my second time struggling ,few years ago happened again

Greetings and Thank you Bradford, I couldn't afford guitar lessons, but so wanted to learn. Your lessons have helped and encouraged me. I'm almost finished with your free version and would like to purchase your next volume. However, when I click the link above it takes me to a book called "Pumping Nylon." Can you please review the link? Thanks so very much! Cheers! Marlene

Pumping Nylon is great, I make videos for all sorts of books (not just my own).
