Welcome to my KZbin channel! In this video, I will be sharing the lessons I've learned from being a polyglot.
As someone who speaks multiple languages, I've had the privilege of experiencing different cultures and connecting with people from all over the world. In this video, I'll share the positive and motivating lessons that have helped me become a successful polyglot.
Through my experiences, I've learned that learning a new language takes time, patience, and dedication. It's important to set realistic goals and celebrate small victories along the way. By learning to communicate in different languages, I've been able to connect with people on a deeper level and gain a new perspective on the world.
Whether you're just starting your language learning journey or looking for motivation to continue, this video is for you. Join me as I share the lessons I've learned from being a polyglot and learn how you can apply these lessons to your own language learning journey.

As an English teacher in France , I had the opportunity as a native French speaker to teach French in Kenya for two years. I had British friends over there . Thanks to them, my accent sounds very British. When I go to England or the USA , people think I’m British. They have never told me I had a French accent when I spoke ( speak )English.

I’ve always felt a bit guilty that my writing in French is much, much worse than my other skills, but I think you’re right. It doesn’t matter. I’d rather spend time learning Italian than improving my writing of French. I only write an occasional email or text message. I don’t need to be good at writing.

One more lesson I will add, revise a lot. I see lot's of people just read a book or something once, and then just forget about it.

Yes. Revision can be part of the "not so fun" part of language learning I was referring to. It's not always super exciting but it's still super important imo.

Salut Kevin! It just came to mind that the very first time I saw one of your videos, I was guessing where you're from and back then I thought your accent in English sounded Portuguese 🇵🇹. I mean as far as I (a non-native speaker of English) can tell, you speak English very well, it's just some little nuances that made me think that. Um abraço da Alemanha 🤗

Haha that's very interesting. I never heard someone pick up on a Portuguese accent when I speak English. It wouldn't be so surprising if I did!

Imagine how sad I'm feeling right now. I've learning Dutch for 3 months and I've made a lot of progress. However, I'll have to stop in a few days because I'm going to start college. And my career has to do with languages. I'm going to study to become an English teacher (I'm a native Spanish speaker). So, the bad news is I won't have time to keep learning Dutch and since Duch and English are both Germanic languages, I don't want my Dutch to interfere with my English. Fortunately my English is very advanced. I've been practicing my speaking in English this week because it's my worst skill (actually in every language I've learned because I have no one to practice them with) and we have to speak English in most subjects. Circumstances change your language learning goals. Such is life. Anyway, I'm still happy for my new career but I know it won't be easy because I'm an introvert. That's also one of the reasons why my speaking is worse than my writing, reading and listening. I can write sentences very well in general but when I have to say them, I struggle much more.

Hey! Are you sure you won't have time to practice Dutch? Isn't there a way you could fit in a couple of study sessions every week? As for interference, don't worry about it. Even if you do mix them up at first, it doesn't last as overtime you learn to differenciate between the two languages (in your brain I mean).

@@KevinAbroad I don't know. I'll have to see if I have some time when I start my classes. I'm pretty sure my English will interfere with my Dutch much more than the other way around because my English is better. Another problem is work. I work in the morning and I'll only have the afternoon to study before going to college. I'll see... Thank you anyway for your support 😁

@@mep6302 Ach, jammer ! Drie keer per week een kwartiertje studeren en oefenen, misschien... ? Kop op :) If you where studying NL and German at the sale time, madre de Dios!, that would be much worse.
