Another thing to note is that Spider-Man 3 got the Star Wars prequels treatment. It was panned by critics at the time but is now loved by those who enjoyed the film as kids. However since Billy maguire is as old as Spider-Man 3 itself, the meme hasn’t died or changed even though the views of the people who make the memes have. The meme slowly went from a negative to a positive connotation yet the actual meme itself didn’t change.

I'm glad that this part of SM3 is being understood a bit better. The film overall wasn't great but the vitriol directed towards this sequence at the time completely baffled me because it felt like I was the only one in on the joke sometimes.
